My hair is almost to my knees and I'm all black. My mom never had long hair. My mom's hair is thick and My sister has thick hair but My hair is thin. Any black woman can grow long hair. You need to have a hair routine and moisturize and deep condition!
Thank you for saying this, this is the same thing I tell all women of African descent. You can if you reduce manipulation, stop TENSION HAIRSTYLES, Simple haircare routine.
I have fine hair too, the longest I've gotten was mid back😩 I'm trying to reach tailbone length. Idk what to do at this point. I try to moisturize my hair and ends as much as possible, but I'm busy and my hair breaks easily.
Thank you SO much for sharing this video and for taking us on this journey with you! I will be purchasing some of your product as SOON as I get my next pay check. Sending my love from the USA. 😘
I don't think that it was you being vegan because you can get far more nutrients being whole foods vegan than anything else... I think it was the braids and twists with extensions. I've been vegan for more than 9 years and experienced thick beautiful hair when i went vegan and did the big chop. What made my hair start thinning was constantly putting my hair in braids and twists with hair added like you did. I never experienced damaged hair like that before until i started doing "protective styles" when they actually weren't protective at all. :(
Thank-you for your comment! I think it was both for me :) But not just veganism in itself. I think it was the way I was doing it. I was eating A LOT of carbs and fruit, but not so many veggies :/
The problem with Black women is that we just don’t know how to look after our own hair. It takes a routine, consistency and patience! Simple as that. Once I realised my hair loves moisture three times weekly, shea butter and to be left alone, well my hair was off and growing.
I always hear that my hair is very high density, but it's only grown to medium length (arm pit) until breakage and I have to big chop. According to 23 and me, I have West African heritage
Beautiful hair. I love seeing young ladies embracing their natural hair and letting it flourish. As we get older hair grows slower and just... differently. I wish I embraced my hair more when I was younger to really experience its potential.

Although I understand your hair has been through a lot, you have always had really good healthy hair. Even when it was damaged I could see the volume and potential! Beautiful
Moving on to thigh length is a big decision. Best of luck in reaching that goal. You can do it!💜 💜 Indigenous Strandz and 22nd Century Natural Worman here on YT have thigh-length hair if you need a bit of inspiration for your thigh-length journey. I'm sitting at hip length trying to decide when I want to move on to tailbone. Right now I cut it when it gets a couple of inches past hip length. I guess I'm just not ready yet. IDK why but it just seems like a much larger step. LoL
Thank-you so much for your comment! Yes, I have recently checked out Indigenous Strandz and have been a fan of 22nd Century Natural Woman for a while as well :) Lol, keep us updated on whether you decide to take the leap to tailbone
Beautiful inspiration....4 years in and I am at BSL . I came close to relaxing my hair this summer...happy I resisted. I think my goal is anywhere between MBL and Waist length.
I was briefly part of the tailbone length. Then it was cut off without my permission 😤. It took me 7 years from a pixie cut. My hair went from lower back to shoulder. I didn't even realize that the trim had turned into a full big chop. I thought it was just shrinkage. It wasn't until I got home and was braiding my hair for the night, she cut off over 12 inches.
I'm so sorry that happened. It's fine when you decide you want to cut it for a change, but when someone else just cuts your hair without permission that's absolutely spiteful! Hopefully, you never let that person touch your hair again.
People with 4b/4c hair need to adress the toxic relationship that they have with their hairstylist(s). Not only will they yank our edges off in one appointment, but they will also chemically treat (esp. relax) our natural hair without our consent. They will charge us extra for having natural hair, verbally harrass us for accepting our hair as it is, refuse to style it unless we fry it, violently and abusively comb it, etc. I believe that having natural hair salons owned and ran by natural hair experts with natural hair themselves, who have overcome their inferiority complexes and learned to genuinely love their hair, is the first solution. The moment I went natural, I told myself to never let anyone with an inferiority complex lay hands on my head. Such people will damage hair, whether consciously or subconsciously.
@Peggy Gilespie High key it's why I only go to a hair dresser with nice hair. It feels so damn petty, but I have never gotten better trims than I have from my current hair dresser who usually has some of the nicest most lush hair at any given time in the salon. I used to have to fight people to stop trying to chop me every time, it was insanity.

You are stunning, your hair is stunning. I love long hair too Unfortunately 5 months back I had an incident at a salon , that saw me lose 11 inches😭😭😭. My hair was mid back length and after it was now this irregular ear length cut. Its better now it's now shoulder length, I am starting to feel more and more confident. I cant wait for it to be long again
Wow. That is so awful. Sorry to hear some evil women cut off so much of your hair without your permission. I've had similar incidents when going to hair salons which is why I decided to take care of my own hair.
Im positive my follicles are damaged from relaxers ever since I was 3-4 😭 my pattern is amazing, 4c but my hair is so fine , I’m trying to find ways to thicken my follicles so that my strands can be less fine and fragile
If that's the case you just need to cut the damaged ends. There's no way to restore split/damaged ends. Better cut it now so you can grow your hair more easily. And do a trim every 4-6 months
@@dlilwon yes i know I do have finer hair naturally but since I was relaxed from so young and my mom didn’t know better than to overprocess my hair and douse my scalp in the relaxer, I feel like my follicles never got the chance to be in their full potential anyway , ya get me? I have sulfur 8, I haven’t used that in a while but I’m trying onion juice soon
Hi Vasty, Thanks so much for sharing! Sorry to hear that you think your follicles may be damaged 😖 I used to take Biotin back in the day and I think it may have helped me with thickness. This may be something that may work for you x
@Trinity M you're right, I know what follicles are idk why I started talking about ends. But generally speaking I think if your hair is naturally fine and thin you cant really change that. You can thicken your hair a bit but it's not gonna like change the density of your hair drastically. I could be wrong tho
This was a beautiful story and looking at the pictures your hair came a long way and I'm so sorry what happened to you at the salon when you got your relaxer.. Some people just don't care and they don't have your best interest in heart our daughter relaxes my hair every 26 weeks.. I have gained some length as well it comes past my bra strapped in the back and I'm very proud of myself because I too had suffered from unhealthy hai'm unhealthy here. Thank you ever kindly God-bless you🙏🏽🌺💓
Hi Sapphire Thanks so much for your kind comment! I am so glad to hear that you have healthy relaxed hair. I often feel that if I had had a different first experience, I would have been relaxed until this day. It's funny how things work out

I had relaxer in for about 6 years and I finally chopped it all off once I started noticing my balding temples. I too still struggle with trying to get the hair to grow back there but it was a bit comforting to know that I'm not alone
People killing me. What your background race got to do with it. The purpose of the video is to find something that works for you, if that don’t work search for another one that works. That comment is ignorant. I wish people would stop.
Omg. I always suspected my braids and protective styles caused my hair to thin but living in the Caribbean I’m not sure if wearing it out is worse due to the heat.
the heat is better than those braids and 4c hair is more adapted to warmer moist climates like yours, if it was hot and dry that would be different. I visited Africa and have found I don't need to moisturise as much here than in Australia.
@@jazzip in africa its also really hot i think its why our hair is curly there must be a way to manage it in heat because its were its native and common. I think some research would help out eventually but watch afope the tricologist talk about how to retain moisture.
Your hair is beautiful! We may have different hair types, but I can relate to the struggle of not knowing how to look after your hair, or even unconscious neglect. I've come to love protective styles, they keep my hair safe, secure and out of the way, whilst looking pretty and ultimately, serving a function - they've become part of my routine and hair goals. I currently have thin waist length hair, which I'm growing out partially because there is a particular style i wanna try with it.
Yikes!!! Just because you're ethnically Nigerian, I must show some support!!! I would support anyone for being good and having wonderful, insightful and lovely contents but once I know you're Nigerian and good, I go extra, lol.
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous. I saw some pics on Pinterest of your hair that someone had pinned and wished that I could find the girl in them. I’m soooo glad RU-vid recommended this video. I’ll be buying some of your butters for sure!
Hi Stacie Thanks for your comment! I definitely will not be keeping up with RU-vid trends at all. That is actually why I once hesitated to make a channel :/ I only do what I know that my hair likes
Beautiful ......... I told my husband that my aim for my hair length is midi length... So I happy to hear you say thigh length.... I am soon shoulder length.... Thanks for the inspiration..... Blessed love ✨✨
@@ifshesopleases hi Queen Goddess, thanks for your reply and the encouraging words 😊😊 ... The meaning of my name Meserete along with my second name is 'Born of Christ"..... Uzondu means "The way of Life"
Here's what I did to grow back my edges after a hairstyle destroyed them: I applied (white) onion juice thrice a week on the bald area, rinsing it off after 6-8 hours. Then I applied vicks every single night religiously. (Vicks contains camphor, menthol, and eucalyptus oil solely. These ingredients stimulate hair growth.) I had a bald spot about 5 cm in circumference above my left ear and this routine helped it grow 10 centimetres in 28 days. My hair does not naturally grow that fast; this routine quadrupled it.
@@spacebar9733 It is the most effective treatment I've ever used (and I've used a number). To spare yourself the onion odor, I'd suggest you add rosemary or peppermint oil, or ginger juice from about 2 inches of ginger. After washing it off, apply a scented leave in conditioner ie Aunt Jackie's and your hair won't have a trace of onion smell in it.
@@ifshesopleases Yes, I never miss the onion smell, but the results are worth it----thicker, longer, darker, softer, strongerhair. I forgot to mention that the side where I used the onion juice is now the fastest growing on my head, and it's also the darkest, thickest, and least likely to tangle. The smell of onion deserves an Oscar in and of itself. 😅 But essential oils and scented hair creams eradicate of it. I hope you experience the same results that I did.
Sterotypes and stupidity that's it. Everyone dont think bw can grow long because of ignorance. If u understand science u wouldn't think things such a bw can't grow hair.
only black women care about this subject because some are insecure about their hair not growing….its not some people…it’s just insecure black women and some black men who try to troll black women cuz they know you are insecure
Ahh. I remember trying to do my own hair in middle school 🤣 I guess you could say my first accidental big chop 😝 congrats on your journey ! Keep it healthy!
Im sorry if this sounds weird but what is the haircut in 8:30 2016 call? I want to know so when i WANT to grow my hair out one day i can get that exact look😅.
Thank you so much for sharing! Amazing journey! what really caught my attention was you moving to Japan! I have studied Japanese in the past and been to Japan as a foreign exchange student so I have huge affinity for Japanese culture. Are you still there now?
I was going about my business one day this lady came up to me and was like excuse me miss your hair looks so beautiful...I said thank u ...she was like wats the name of the hair...I was like all natural.... She was saying to her self all natural it the first time am hearing that hair brand... I was like yes caz it's all my hair...then she started to apologize...... I get annoyed wen ppl is like u mix caz I have long beautiful hair ...I always say yes am mix with both blks lol ...
You wearing the dress and the cute bow ARE EVERYTHING. I'm so inspired to make myself a big crazy bow and wear it. Fortunately my hair is also quite long now! Congrats to you
My hair was midback lenght now am at the same lenght of yours i think its past tailbone lenght touching my butt..am aiming to the classic lenght.. cuze am planning to wear it curly most of the time.. so i hope it will beat waist lenght when it's curly.. good luck in growing your hair ❤️💜
Hi Curls n Cupcakes (Love this name! ) Hm, thinking back, they were usually mixed or Caribbean. I think most of the other Nigerian girls had hair that was similar to mine at the time
Beautiful hair 😍. I am growing out my hair with heat and was contemplating on what length to keep it at when it grows out and thought that waist length would be where I would stop but then through watching your video it dawned on me that I could let it grow as long as it wants because in its natural state it would always be shorter and I could then wear natural styles that had length. I love when videos give me epiphanies. Thanks!

Hear is bad for hair growth . It literally breaks off your hair if done too much . Please be careful but it’s your hair at the end of the day. Good luck
Wow I'm a teen and I've never had long hair in my life it's 4c and it's always been to my shoulders I've always wanted long hair all my life but it has not happened yet. Maybe if I keep praying.....maybe...
Your hair is beautiful! Good luck on your journey to thigh length. Have you heard of the RU-vidr Indigenous Strands? I think she was able to grow her hair to thigh length, or knee length. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your journey! You are beautiful and your hair is amazing. Nice texture and the styles you choose look great. I notice that you do have strong and healthy hair strands even when your hair was much shorter.
Wow what a journey 👑 Queen. Hmmm 🤔 so you think veganism had something to do with your hair’s density?? I have been plant based for over a decade and my hair has always been thick and long. Strange thing is, I have been experiencing hair breakage and thinning for the passed 4 months…. I still eat a plant based regimen however, I have incorporated some dairy and or fish occasionally…. I want to do more research 🔬 to see if veganism, and or plant based Genesis diet makes your hair thinner..🥰💯😅
Hey Pedrita :( It was like that for me, I'm afraid. I have to admit I didn't have the best diet. It was full of carbs lol Oh, sorry to hear that you've been experiencing breakage and thinning lately :( I wonder what's happening...:(
@@ifshesopleases Hey hey Empress! Awww I pray you find a way of eating that is good for your body! I think the breakage is due to stress of moving to a new state😩all is well now ! Take care
Thanks for your comment! Yes, I do believe that having braids continuously can cause damage, unfortunately :( There may be some other naturals out there that this worked for, but it was really bad for me
Thank you for sharing! Interesting, no one in my family has hair similar to thickness and length to my hair. I think your hair looks similar to my hair.
Thank-you for your comment! I have a video addressing that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A7np5AYIZlA.html&ab_channel=IfSheSoPleases Hope this helps!

Hi dear ! Your hair are so gorgeous. When gonna you release the full set - Length Retention Hair Butters (Coconut, Strawberry, Vanilla and Mango) again please? Thank you from Belgium.

i don't know why but to be honest to me u are the best💖💘 youtuber teaching us and talking to us how you grew your hair n ur struggles. Like girl you sincere haven't seen 🙅or watched a RU-vidR SOO TRUE. 😍😘
I’ll be ok with the question when they ask every women: It is that all your hair? The question is demeaning in my opinion. If you see a head of beautiful hair (long or not), compliment the person, but don’t try to embarrass or call someone out for the length of their hair.
How long did it take you to reach tailbone length? Also, do you tend to follow the trim rule in taking care of your natural hair? I personally feel as though my natural hair was growing faster without frequent trims
