Friends, to my chagrin, when I was editing the footage I observed that the close-up of the foundation application doesn't really show the texture-diffusing quality of the product. I think it's because the beauty lights the I use for filming are pretty powerful texture-diffusers themselves, so the bare side of my face was getting help from the lights and didn't contrast as much with the foundation side as it does in real life. I hope you will still be able to see a little bit of what I'm talking about! I'm sorry I didn't change the lighting when I was taking that footage-it just didn't occur to me. Thanks for watching!

I was on the Jones road site the other night agonizing over whether I need the new bronzer in the lightest shade (even though I don't wear bronzer) & noticed something interesting. So the miracle balm has in common some ingredients with a product I know & love. One of my only repurchase items over the last few yrs is the earth harbor nymph Nectar balm. It's in a little glass pot, looks & sort of feels like a slightly gritty, almost waxy lip balm. Yet it's for skin! It is one of the most impressive products I own. It literally makes my skin feel like baby skin or calf skin once it sinks in & it does a tremendous job of blurring while also sort of plumping fine lines & pores. It's a product I feel like I could not live without. So to now hear you talk more at length about the miracle balm again, it is making me nod my head while thinking about the nymph Nectar! I definitely do not need the Jones road & appreciate your outro! Thanks so much for this! 🕺✨

I could actually see the difference. It was just as you said. I zoomed in with a full screen. Bobbi was always about yellow undertones in her foundation. This color did not look as good on you as last videos I saw you in when you use the correct color for your skin!! But the foundation made you look plump and has coverage compared to the makeup free side! 👍🏻👍🏻

The problem is, the longer you have the What The Foundation, the more unusable it becomes. It completely separates. To the point where you can’t even pick up the container because it begins oozing oil. Anywhere you store it will be oily. And good luck mixing it up to try to get it “back together” because it’s just a big mess. They need to reformulate this one.

I worked for Bobbi for 7 years and from what i can tell with the WTF foundation, she has tried to replicate the Extra Tinted Balm that they used to sell at Bobbi. It came in about 5 shades, was very sheer, more skincare than actual make up, was packed with essential oils which gave it a strong herbal scent and it came in a tub to apply with fingers usually. It made dehydrated/dry skin look very healthy and plumped. For obvious reasons it was VERY popular with mature skin, so she's definitely trying to do a similar thing here.

I wear WTF a lot. I prefer the fragrance of WTF to SB. I feel more confident/“done” with it. I will often go in with the sneaky balm under my eyes/around the nose as extra coverage. SB = good for coverage, WTF good for complexion enhancing, skin care and elegance. Old Bobbi Brown brand used to have a “Tinted Moisturizing Balm” which was my holy grail. WTF-unsurprisingly-comes closest to my old love. Skin feels SO SOFT at end of the day, especially when layered with the Miracle Balm. 😍

I'm so happy to see a fair review of WTF. I think JR hasn't done a great job of marketing this to their target audience, or has allowed the non-target audience to to own the narrative, and the product has been unfairly vilified as a result. WTF is not intended for young people with perfect, plump skin. It's for older people for whom the lovely skin ship has long since sailed. 30yo me would have hated this; for 52yo me, it's nearly perfect. I am sorry the shade range is not nearly perfect, though.

im a researcher. i don't do anything without designing experiments. literally nothing. it's innate after you study it, work it and live it. you're one of the v few people whose opinion i trust BECAUSE you research and you do it correctly. using new products with each other, not testing different bases and/or textures, not using other means to compensate for a perceived shortcoming are all disingenuous and in bad faith. it's physically impossible to distinguish a product's performance if there's no negative and positive ctrl in the experiment: ie clearly profiled products with minimal disturbance, used to evaluate new products etc. always do differential diagnosis. they yield the best decisions with the most amount of information.

@kagitsune

@@SJ-dl6uc Both! Also got introduced to a neat little DOE widget in excel during a seminar. It made a "heat map" of the interacting effects and about where you might reach an optimal result. But yes, back to the idea of trying a bunch of products from the same company instead of doing OFAT as is typical in makeup reviews... I don't find "trying to make the product work" disingenuous, personally. If anything, it more accurately demonstrates how a regular consumer might use the product, I. E. in combination with their existing products. Letting all the factors interact in this video's way makes sense for a thorough brand review (which this video is!), but I don't think that most people buy a full face from a single brand much anymore, unless you've been buying from Clinique or Estee Lauder counters for 30 years 😅 But I am indeed interested in hearing you expand more about your thoughts. 🤓
@SJ-dl6uc
@SJ-dl6uc Год назад
@@kagitsune you misunderstood what i wrote. i am actually advocating making the makeup work no matter what, exactly for the reason that it's what actual consumers go through. what i said was it's disingenuous to review things without testing other avenues of problem-solving that could aid in using a product, albeit w a lil more difficulty. basically I said what you're saying. ps: categorically, the Six Sigma cert is good for manufacturing R&D cz it lends itself to incorporate a lot of physics that's generally not defined in a regular RgD setting in the life sciences (biology and chemistry). but the statistics of Six Sigma and Minitab itself are so freaken amazing and powerful. I an immunobiochemist and an R&D scientist in making immunoassays. so it's kinda perfect for population data, cz my entire job is to design experiments and collect data. i use stats as much as i use arithmetics. I can calculate R0 easier than a radical of a given number. Minitab's expensive af, if you can't get the software, use its help and FAQ directory to study and learn manufacturing and statistics in non manufacturing disciplines.
@kagitsune
@kagitsune Год назад
@@SJ-dl6uc Ah, gotcha, thanks for the clarification! And yes, I'm very lucky that my school buys a Minitab license for us all. It's almost scary how fast it spits out a beautiful explainer for a DOE. Easy to use, but easy to abuse, imo... And thank you for the career tip! Minitab's blogs are indeed a treasure trove of Stats education. :D

I've got about 12 years on you and "tinted skincare" is absolutely my jaaaaaam. This one unfortunately has a few ingredients my acne-prone skin hates (jojoba, olive oil, stearic acid, some other high-oleic oils) -- if it weren't for that I'd def give it a shot! For anyone with similar sensitivities, the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint (liquid texture, dropper bottle, heavy on squalane and glycerin plus hyaluronic and allantoin, SPF 40) is fantastic and doesn't break me out. And fyi, the lighter shades are probably going to be even paler than you expect based on swatches. It's been my go-to for about a year, and I'm trying to use it up... bc your Salt New York review has me wanting to try THAT one now, sigh.

I want to address two subjects in this sure-to-be-long comment: age, and Exa's green colour corrector. If anyone is interested in the latter, scroll down 😂. First thing's first. Holy Balls, HLP!! You're going on 38!? You're only 2 years younger than I am!? Whoa!! I'm fairly new-ish to your channel, and I've been very curious about your age. You definitely give off intelligence and maturity in spades, but I figured you were an old soul trapped in the body of someone in their late twenties or VEEERRRYYY early thirties. 34 at the absolute *latest*. Which tracks for us pale, pleasantly, slightly-plump-cheeked folks. To clarify: I'm not referring to a plumpness of figure, more like ....plumped skin? I digress. Up until the last 2 years, I was being ID'd for EVERYTHING. I'd hand over my license, and the cashier would look at my birth year, then up at my face, then back my birthday again. This would, especially if the cashier wasn't a cis-gendered male, be followed by something along the lines of, "SERIOUSLY!?! Wow, you GO, girl!" However, the Dark, Two-Years-Long, Night Of The Soul, coupled with extreme self-neglect, have taken their toll. I'm only asked for my ID one out of five times, now. I know this is just due to policy: everyone who looks under 65 has to be ID'd in most liqs/bars/stores that sell nicotine, THC, and CBD products. It's just shocking how much terrible mental health can age you. We are also, as you mentioned, in a period of rapid aging. The years between 38 and 48 typically herald a ton of physical changes. I'm trying to embrace this, and just.....be the me that I am. Things are looking up. I'm going to be getting some dental work done very soon (which I have to quit smoking cigarettes for); both these things will improve my health, confidence, and looks, exponentially. I've also finally gotten definitive mental health diagnoses, and that's a huge first step. Anyway. On to Exa!! I'm Canadian. I've been very intrigued by Exa, Make Beauty, and RMS since watching your content. Particularly, Make's Mascara, and chiefly: Exa's greyish-green, desaturated, colour corrector. Unfortunately, NONE of these brands ship to Canada. "Oh well," I thought. "I can either live without it, or, I could take one of my existing green colour correctors and experiment with some colour theory alchemy, using products I already have. I mean, I *do* have a small pot of Dr Jart's cicapair redness-killing cream. That should be enough..." Famous last words for a person who hasn't gotten my spending habits under control, by a long-shot. A few weeks ago, I found myself on Yesstyle, looking for a powerful SPF 50 PA++++++++++++ pump-style spray for the face. Something I could use to reapply SPF over my makeup, if that's even possible. Also, Clio Kill Lash mascara, which I've been hearing rad things about. That's when I saw them: The Saem's line of concealers! Specifically, the green-beige one. While it doesn't look like an *exact* Exa dupe, it does look close enough for government work. It's even *more* desaturated when it comes to the green aspect, so it may be ideal for even fairer fair-skinned folks. The tubes are daintily small, and the price point is very affordable. I love this smaller size, because, as someone who hasn't been wearing much makeup lately, it's easier for me to use something up before it goes off. Same reason I usually go for sample-size mascaras lately. I picked up both the beigey-green and peach concealers from The Saem. The peach is more saturated than its sibling, but lesser-so than the current correction situation I've currently got on the go. A probably-too-old Tarte cream conceal/colour correct/highlight/bronztour palette. Purchased circa ~Spring/Summer 2020. So: if there are any non-US-citizens out there who want to try something like this, but don't want/are unable to cross the border just to shop, or use re-mailing services? This could be a good alternative. There's still the aforementioned Dr Jart, but The Saem concealers are far more affordable, and take up less space. Before I completely wrap this up, I just want everyone to know that I don't work for any of these companies/retailers in ANY capacity. I'm just passing on information. Lots of love to you all!

In the winter, I often use the Isdin skin drops in my favorite moisturizer and/or serum and have been really happy with this approach as they warm up my sun starved complexion a bit in a very flattering way. You should see what the product would look like after a few months (in the jar and on the face) if you mixed a bit of that white product IN with the Jones Road WTFoundation-Porcelain -- to see if it could be a workable, one-step product instead of applying the white mix separately.

I have the Dusty Rose version of Miracle Balm- I use dewy foundations generally as I have dry skin but on the occasion when I'm looking a bit dull, I add a smudge of miracle balm across my cheeks and nose and I look immediately perky. Big fan of that product. I enjoyed the mascara- I feel like its quite wet, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs when it dries out and becomes a bit more stodgy. I held back on the foundation as I was sure it wasn't light enough for me and it seems that I was correct. Hopefully theyll add some more colours to the collection.

Watching you apply it to your bare face without anything underneath like color corrector, miracle balm, glow lust, etc.. it definitely matched your complexion despite it being significantly darker than the foundations you usually use, and I think that's attributed to it's tinted moisturizer quality and how thin the coverage is. While it is technically "too dark" for my skin too, I absolutely can get away with it on it's own and even more so with color corrector and concealer to brighten in the areas to make it look more seamless. I will say I did add quite a few pumps of my Haus Labs white foundation to it to lighten it up even more and that worked really well. I'm sure you could add some green color corrector as well to neutralize it even more, but I don't feel it's necessary if you add just the Haus Labs to the foundation and do a layer of the color corrector underneath like you would normally do when prepping your skin. When this stuff came out, I was attracted to its pudding texture; it looked edible. Then, I watched some RU-vid reviews and came to the conclusion that it seemed like a disgusting coating of peanut butter. So, I crossed it off my list of potential foundation purchases. However, this winter my skin has been drier than it ever has before. Even my most-used foundations aren't looking that great on me. After watching your video, I'm rethinking my view of WTF. It might just be OK for me. I usually don't like dewy finishes, but it looks like a dusting of powder might tone it down. I trust your thorough examination of products and solutions to the problems you face with having pale skin. I know what that's like after practically a lifetime of trying to match foundation shades. My skin is a bit darker than yours, so I think Porcelain would work. I was baffled by the Jones Road odd, sparse shade selections when WTF first appeared. I hope Bobbi Brown adds more in the future, but I was impressed with your mixology skills so you could get it to make a better match. I'd be interested to see how it works with other brands' products like concealers, blushes, setting sprays, etc. Thanks for the informative video, Hannah!

I think what would keep me from having the WTF be a favorite is what happens to it when you let it sit, (and I totally understand if someone has a small collection this won't apply to them) but when I go back to reach for it it's separated and just looks so gross. I know Bobbi says you can just mix it back up, but like for me part of the appeal of higher end makeup is the aesthetic element of them. So while pretty just not something I find practical for me. Hopefully other brands come out with something similar (but better) and have way more shade ranges which is another issue I found with her old cosmetic line as well and was hoping she'd fix by now. ** Definitely agree with what you said at the end, this is more a line for people who only want to shop at one brand

I bought the Dusty Rose bronzer, a high end purchase that I could have done without. I am more and more happily drugstore these days. I haven't used it yet. I see it truly is just more of a blush tone; one I already have in a blush, nonetheless. BUT - I will not beat myself up about the purchase. I have been pretty good these days, and it honestly sparked a commitment to a low buy I think I can really adhere to now. I am just hoping this rose bronzer has an undertone to it that will make it better as a bronzer than actually blasting blush all over. At the least, it's an inventive and different product, and I can appreciate that and am happy to support a brand who is trying.

Wow, I think this is the first review I’ve seen of the What the Foundation that actually gives it a fair shot. And it really does appeal to me. I love watching makeup videos on RU-vid, but there are certain parts of makeup that I really dislike in practice, and base makeup is probably at the top of that list. I have some amount of hyperpigmentation from a bad struggle with acne 10 years ago, and I’ve developed rosacea and melasma in the last couple of years. I’ve gotten things to the point where I’m satisfied with less pigmented products that just even things out, but my preference would be to just skip base products and move on to makeup I enjoy, like eyeshadow. So a more skincarey base product like this is really appealing to me. Alas, my skin tone is just slightly darker than yours with a very neutral undertone. So unless they come out with lighter shades, I don’t think I’ll bother.
