The deck squat has always been beyond my reach - just couldn't unlock the keys to do the movement, and everyone who showed it just seemed to assume it was something you just "did". This is enormously helpful. Many thanks for taking the time to record this!
This is really great, sir. Coming back to check out your stuff after years of not. I'm really stiff and closed in reference to this ability. Looking forward to opening up. Thanks
Great video, first time being able to do this through your coaching, thank you. I just got back into your content because of an old knee injury. I'm able to high bar squat under load again thanks to practicing your 1 leg squat (I can do one 1LS on my good knee and go down but not up on the bad knee, it's improving) it has greatly strengthened my knees and balance. Thank you
Great demo, thanks Steve. Do you see any value in doing these for TUT or EMOM and then progressing the weight, say as an alternative squat regime for a while ?
I think EMOM is a good approach with these. As far as adding load that will work only up to a point because I just start getting heavier you’re at a bio mechanical disadvantage and it won’t be easy to stand up. Probably a better alternative would be to do one legged, pistol squats, if you want to add weight. I use the deck squat as a progression for the pistol squat so if you can do the one leg down and up with the deck squat, you can definitely do pistol squats as well And from there, you can hold a Kettlebell in the goblet position to add additional load
@Steve Cotter IKFF thanks very much for the reply Steve. So your options could be..... A) Progress to say 24kg ( regular two leg ) to work against that disadvantage. B) Progress to bodyweight pistols down + up -----> add weight to pistol using goblet You prefer pistols but there's still value in A ? I'm pushing it now ! Thanks again, any seminars over in Ireland on schedule?
Yes, you can definitely use the deck squat down and up with two legs and add weight but probably you will only be able to go so far with the weight and then once you reach your plateau with that you will probably be able to build up to more weight with a pistol squat and obviously if it gets really heavy, just a regular goblet squat, without rocking back into the deck squat
Mesmo não falando a sua língua, consegui entender. Pois procurei aqui uma forma de adaptar o movimento pois não consigo ainda realizar. Muito obrigada!
I have crazy over active TFL/ITB.. Will doing deck squats and progressing to pistols help to work out imbalances in my hip complex that are causing such issues?
