This genuinely is one of the best tutorials regarding dx. Like i remember having watched cloud wolf's video on it multiple times but this is the first time I've truly understood it. Thank you so much.
@TimberForge
@TimberForge 3 года назад
Yeah CloudWolf is 10x better than me at data packs, but he focuses more on learning and creating advanced systems as opposed to teaching them in a way everyone understands. He could probably explain it super well if he wanted to but thats probably not his focus.

Btw the dust command is wrong, the rgb should be between 0 and 1, not 0 and 255. (It didn't really affect it much though)

Yes i heard of dx, dy and dz before. I was making a parkour map, where i used it to check if a player was standing in a particular area. Then if it sensed it, it would teleport the player to the next checkpoint.

You had me a bit confused on how those commands need to look for precise detection, but the command from the lazorgate really helps to decipher that!

I’ve been making a pirate datapack and was getting burnt out cuz I didn’t understand dx and was gonna use the new “looking at” predicate but it was annoying and now everything sucks less. Thank you so much.

Great video! That's a pretty confusing subject and you put it in a very easy to understand way. I would like to add that for different body parts you can still use dx which would still be more precise and reliable than distance and would let you have more flexibility over the detection areas.
@TimberForge
@TimberForge 3 года назад
For sure, the distance examples at the end were to be used in combination with dx like with the zombie.
@gftk5566
@gftk5566 3 года назад
@@TimberForge yeah but since distance is still spherical, unless you managed to be very very accurate, there is still a small area around the selected body part that is not part of the hitbox
@TimberForge
@TimberForge 3 года назад
Oh I see, you mean position another separate detection zone relative to the first one, and depending on if the two separate detection zones have the mob in it you could tell where exactly it was hit? Yeah that makes sense too.

Sorry, we are probably not starting it up again soon without suggestions for a rework to the system. Here’s an explanation from the discord: If you want to help set it up or something, or if you have ideas for it, I would be glad to help u, I just didn't continue it because the time spent on it didn't really pay off, and it was a bit hard to get everything organized in a way where a lot of people could participate easily. It's hard to present data packs in a way that many can be easily viewed. (For example in a game jam you just download the game and play, or play in the browser) But for data packs you need to download and install every individual pack, and then you need to set up everything properly in the world and read up on how to set it up and learn what all of the features are before you can even really use it. The way around this is to either make people make a custom map which displays all the features, or to make a video/slideshow/high quality showcase page in planetminecraft(basically just a vertical slideshow) to display the features. But not everyone was able to create a form of presentation like that, which made it hard for a lot of people to really showcase what their data pack did.
@juliusfebra4004

Fun Fact : You can do this actually in bedrock now since the new version 1.19.50 was added, the execute command was now reworked.

Really useful video. Can someone help me with this: I want to make a PvP datapack where I want to detect if a player shot an arrow that hit another player from a certain distance. If the arrow hit 50 blocks away then maybe give the player a reward or something. However, I can't find a way to reliably calculate the distance between the two players, the one who shot the arrow and the one who got hit by it.
@lordlawrence9781
@lordlawrence9781 3 года назад
Maybe using the player_hurt_entity advancement trigger? Make the hurt entity a player with a distance of minimum 50 blocks and there you go

That slime room used to test out the dx functions, i want the map
@TimberForge
@TimberForge 3 года назад
Lol i stuck in it my testing world so its a mess. If you want to set that up yourself, the fastest way thought of was to put down a grid of item frames on the floor, and then run an execute command to summon noai small slimes in front of all item frames using vector coordinates. I did it 3 times for 3 layers of slimes.
@TimberForge
@TimberForge 3 года назад
Also you have to reposition the dx detection of the commandblock because by default it runs in the center of the block, but its easier to visualize it if you run it from the corner.

@@TimberForge Thanks for the reply, like the new intro. The spider, iron golem and ender dragon looked larger compared to the background. That could be achieved using a resource pack, or fancy editing but the hitboxes (one of the things, to my knowlege datapacks can't change) were larger as well. Thanks, keep up the good work, you inspired me to start creating datapacks :)
