This is brilliant. I am on my fourth time round. But fifty times?, That gives me something to aim at!. I honestly believe anybody stressed in their life could benefit from being prescribed to watch detectorists. Calming, whimsical, understated, beautifully written and acted. And what a theme tune!
I'm on series 3 saving it for Xmas 23 as nothing will be on will it....but will I make it stretch?! Absolutely loving6thisis mentally calming u just forget about everything sheer bliss.... More please there has to be more 😢
This randomly came up on my feed and to say I was delighted is an understatement. I absolutely adore the Detectorists. If anything, the vid was not long enough and what a stunning area that is. I did notice some movement in the bushes on occassion and can only conclude Simon and Garfunkel had you under surveillance? Nice job.
Great video; we love the show too. Good job you went when you did as some things have changed since then. 1) The Lemon Tree cafe is renamed and is now a posh restaurant. 2) The trees in the church yard (including the tree Andy hid behind) were chopped down after the brick wall collapsed (the council believed the tree roots caused it) 3) The electrical shop has closed (the owner retired after 42 years in business) 4) The scout hut has been replaced by a modern (and lifeless) building. Oh, and one other thing: Lance's flat is currently up for sale!!!!
I discovered this show three days ago and iI’ve watched it completely through once and started it for the second time. I am in the US and had never heard of it but my daughter found it and sent me a link since my husband is a dectorist aka relic hunter. I am really enjoyed seeing the actual little town. I am amazed that everything is so close and so small. The streets look much wider on the television. I love that you are such a huge fan and I’ve watched it so many times. Your enthusiasm is wonderful.
Just discovered this show and have binge watched the entire series and now on round two. As an expat, I love the incredible characters-smart, curious, quirky, genuine, authentic, intriguing, hilarious, empathic-real humans with all the foibles, hopes and dreams. Incredible show, cast, filming locations, has it all. Thanks for this-great to see the quaint villages-I miss that about England. Take care, feel like taking up detectionism (if that is a word) as a hobby now! Lisa, Ontario Canada 🇬🇧🇨🇦❤️🌟
You’re welcome I’m glad you enjoyed it, there’s a one off Christmas special this Christmas we’re looking forward to and we’re also returning to the area ourselves in May 2023 to see a few more locations! Glad you enjoyed it and we helped you see a little of what you miss! Take care 😊
@@RickandHeather Thanks Rick and Heather. Subsribed to your channel also! Can see even more of the history, heritage and landscape I miss. Emigrated with family when just a teen- but miss all the countryside, wildlife, British shows, especially history and mystery. Loved the Detectorists. We have a young country in Canada with little to pick up through metal detection. Our oldest history Is Indigenous culture, mostly items made from wood and pottery as well as villages to unearth. Most is oral storytelling and narrative- but incredibly important to our Canadian culture. Lisa, Canada ❤️
@@nature12487 thanks for subscribing, we’re not the best RU-vid channel but we have fun trying 😊 hopefully you stick around and pick a few you like. Canada isn’t all bad either, you have Ryan Reynolds Pamela Anderson and ermmmmm 🤣 take care Lisa ❤️🇨🇦
I'm only half way through and feel the need to say thank you. I'm going to binge it again in one day, one of my favourite things to do with snacks and good drinks, whether it's tea or alcohol. Thank you!
Discovered Detectorists in 2023 so I'm way behind on all of this. Wanted to say though that this video is still great for new fans and I'll probably watch it over. Its really useful and informative and I'll probably go to one or two of the places you visited knowing now they're close together and easy to get around. Thanks for putting it on RU-vid guys great work
Wonderful. I only just finished watching the whole lot again on DVD. It is such a quaint and laid back show. It's great to watch and the writing and acting is first class. Really surprised how near to each other the locations are in the village. Also how Andy's hiding tree is only a stones throw from the lemon tree restaurant. Fancy the other locations being forty miles away. I expected you to pass Andy, as he worked killing weeds with just water along the roadside. Brilliant series. Hear Mackenzie might be up for filming a fourth season yet. Cheers 😁
Ahhh yes we love the show, I’m hearing he may indeed revisit for s4 I’m unsure if it’s a good thing or not, it was so perfect as is I’d be tempted to leave it be. But I won’t say no if he does revisit 👍 we loved visiting the locations and documenting them here. Thanks for watching 🏴☠️
I only started watching this series about a month ago. I absolutely love it, Lost count how many times I've watched it now. Definitely on my list of places to visit. Great job👏🏻
This is a lovely insight into all the main locations. Whoever found them for the production company did a superb job in finding so many locations in one village. Thank you for the video, it is very interesting as I am a great fan of the Detectorists.
Really awesome to see not just the locations itself but also the surrounding areas. Good job! As a metaldetector (sorry, metaldetectorist) myself I love the TV show. Have to watch at least once a year.
@@RickandHeather Yes, looking forward to it, though hope it'll be on TV here in the Netherlands. We do have BBC but it is altered for dutch market (subtitles, dutch commercials) and don't know if the programming is the same as in the UK. Hope to visit Framlingham and some of the other sites myself also some day. Last visit to the UK was well before the TV-series. Thanks again!
so i watched the second video first which is confusing because the scout hut is now replaced and andys tree has been cut down but it all makes sense when i tried to find the locations on google makes so thanks for all the hard work you have done thanks i will visit now
We binge watched all the the episodes and both Christmas specials last week. Wonderful performances in a great show. Just watched your video. Well done sir 👏👏
Excellent. The tree! Great series. Me and Bri also enjoyed watching The Detectorists, but I take it you’ve watched it a few times to recall all that detail. As for Framlingham Castle that has its own recent claim to fame through Ed Sheehan’s song ‘Castle on the Hill’. All the best to you both and I hope Rick’s got his voice back!
Thx for the trip. I absolutely love Detectorists. My daughter lives not far from Framlingham. I was there last week with the grandkids. Andy’s tree has been chopped down !!!! Also the scout huts gone, they’ve built a new one 😢.
Thank you for filming this. I really enjoyed seeing a real view of the town, and not a cinema view. I was waiting for a trampoline to come rolling by when you were in the field. The DMDC even had the finds table in it. It looks the same. Pretty cool
I absolutely love this series. This area is on my work patch and get to drive round here on a regular basis. It's lovely country. Ideal for the series. Very lucky to live and work in such a lovely area. Ps your motor home is obviously loving our 'crunchy' Suffolk roads!
Great video. It really felt like you captured some second hand magic of the show at times. I've had plans to do something similar on our next trip to England, but it would have meant a serious detour as our end destination is always Plymouth where we have friiends living. Now I sort of feel like I've done it already! So the itinerary for the next trip will be Dover-Salisbury-Plymouth (I want to visit Old Sarum because of the Edward Rutherfurd novel). Many thanks from a Detectorists fan in Belgium.
My favourite television show, ever. And yes, I too revisit Danebury every so often thru all 3 seasons. What's not to love? Thanks so much for this Detectorists tour, brilliant! It's amazing to see all the film sites. I think I'd need a moment under that tree. Maybe even need a tissue. LOL Thanks again Rick and Heather. ATB
Enjoyed watching your video. My wife and I were supporting artists in series 2 of Detectorists and we'd never heard of it before we went for filming but we were hooked on it after that. It was interesting seeing the locations again where we spent many hours with the rest of the cast.
Ahhh excellent! I’m sure you’re aware but there’s a Detectorists Facebook page and a few people who worked on the show pop up occasionally (not big stars but location people etc) you may enjoy it. Which scenes were you in?
I wish to complain most strongly about the length of this video.....its far too short, brilliant scenes absolutely love detectorists thanks very much for this..
Great video. I'm a detectorists nut too since my son put me onto it. Cant help but keep watching it. Great video. Thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Sadly since you filmed this the scout hut is no more. Thanks again. Both stay safe x
Thank you thank you thank you. Love the programme. Will be in our camper in the area mid June so will use your video as reference and do a bit of a tour.
@@RickandHeather did you find a guide book or something similar? My wife is into Midsomer Murders and we found a guide book when visiting Oxford. Surprising what has been filmed in and around Midsomer😎
Watched all of it thanks for filming this and for your time looking into all the places. Great job thank you. New feature length episode being filmed this summer can’t wait
Cracking video, thanks a lot for this. I'm planning on visiting this area on my motorcycle this summer, if we get one that is. Ha. Massive detectorists fan here also. This video has been such a help. Thanks. Fingers crossed they make more episodes.
Never watched it, too busy making videos. However, we both really enjoyed this and are now intrigued about the series. Well done guys, great job. Tony and Claire.
Thanks Rick & Heather, I am an ex pat too, found the seires and love it. I miss England and the British humour. Thanks for this walk about. .......Owen Ontario, Canada.
@@RickandHeather Not yet, but looking forward to it. Watching the first part was a very pleasant support to recovering from my latest bout of covid : )
Didn’t know about this programme on TV. I must live under a rock 🤣🤣 We are off to Framingham this weekend with our van. I hope we find some gold 😉 Trev
Thank you for your video. I know the area and have frequented the Jolly Sailor in Orford in the past. Shame you couldn’t get there. But it’s a lovely memory ride for me.
Nice walk around my home town and surrounding area and lovely video. Well done Becky’s mums house was only about a 1 minute drive where you parked in town and the train station was actually Saxmundham station that you was very close to. Always wondered why the castle didn’t feature. Perhaps it was an issue of sorts with English Heritage. It does have lots of history and where Mary Tudor was proclaimed first queen of England
I’m going back in May to do a few more locations, I’m guessing the castle didn’t feature because the fictional area was decided not to have one? Does seem strange.
@Rick and Heather - Pearl The CV20 hope you enjoy the trip back. You won't recognise the scout hall now. Completely refurbished and I wondered if that was the reference to the scout hall being refurbished in the latest special. The "scout hut" is actually a community hall. The actual Fram scout hut is around the corner in Badingham Road. The Crown Hotel in town is where the cast stayed when filming. I was lucky to have had a chat with Mackenzie in the Station pub while filming the Christmas special. He was in there with Toby. Really lovely humble guy. He was in the Crown having breakfast the next morning when I was in there with my wife for a coffee
@@Mikes_Travels yeah many people on the Detectorists Facebook group say he’s lovely which is always nice to hear, yes the community rooms I knew had been demolished they’ve been selling bits off to fans, also in the special you can see they’re actually standing at the corner by the Castle pub just up from St Michael’s and if you look carefully can see the fence around the new building. I believe the interior was another local community room re dressed to look similar but it seems smaller on the tv.
@Agatha And Anything I think the interior was the Community room at Great Glemham. The money made from selling off bits of the old community room went towards the building costs of the new one 😊
It’s strange how familiar it all is. On a more personal note, we emigrated a couple of years ago and when i’m asked if I miss anything of England, my answer is always the same. I still love the sights and sounds of these English villages. There are so many small things which simply dont exist where we now live. The church you walked past has a damp mossy pathway leading to it, surrounded by trees and birds singing. The row of massive chestnuts. The blackbird. All of that has a smell, a sight and a feel to it which doesn’t exist anywhere else. I miss English woodland. I think i’ll visit this year and spend more time just loitering .
@@RickandHeather I loved nothing more than spending days just hanging around the medieval villages in Sussex and Kent. Couldn’t get enough. There’s so much history going right back to flint and everything about them has a value of its own. I think, apart from adoring Toby Jones in anything he does and the evident absolute genious of the series itself, that this is the main reason I really enjoyed Detectorists. Thanks so much for making the effort to bring it all back to life for me.
I'm selling my narrowboat and I'm looking at buying a campervan and I'm a MASSIVE Detectorists fan...not sure which one made you pop up on my recommendations but I'm so glad you did. Subscribed and already planning my first trip to Framlingham! Will catch up on your other vids too :)
Are you sure it’s not a ship…? Well, we’re back in Fram in May for my birthday again so I’ll film more, I hope the van idea works out, anything I can help with just ask 😊 pub?
Just thoroughly enjoyed watching your video, thank you. What a lovely little adventure for your birthday! I've recently watched this brilliant series 2nd time around... no match for a super fan like yourself but its definitely one of the best things to come out of the beeb, beautifully written and acted. It also introduced me to the wonderful music of Johnny Flynn and The Unthanks. Very best regards my friends 👍 x
I took my sister on a surprise visit to many filming locations a couple of weeks ago, I used your video for many pointers. The scout hut has not been flattenned and replaced with a modern building, but more surprisingly the trees in the churchyard have all been cut down in the past couple of weeks.
Looks like you were not far from the cottage they bought on Woodbridge Road? The shepherds hut, just caught in the distance on your video, is very similar in build.
Not sure on the cottage, the shepherds hut was sort of the excuse we were using if we got caught as it’s a wedding venue we were going to say we were checking it out for a friend 🤣
Lovely video! I’ve been bingeing the show over the last few days and I’m absolutely besotted. Been looking for somewhere cute to go and do some writing, might double it up as a nosey at the set and try here. Do you know if there’s a train station nearby?
I didn’t know but google suggests it’s not far….. It’s easy to reach Framlingham Castle by rail. Hop on a train to Wickham Market, which is served by Greater Anglia services from Ipswich and Lowestoft. Hope this helps 😊
Thanks guys, for bringing to life so many locations I've only visited on Google Earth. When you go back in May why not pay Larry Bishop a call?... But beware of the dogs!!
@@RickandHeather I was until yesterday, they cept removing my posts regarding an episode of worzel gummidge where the tr7 and 2 detectorists are in the background in a field, so left the group
@@Greengrass1972 I think he’s pretty strict on keeping worzel stuff in 1 place. There’s a pinned thread about it. I got told off for posting the tennis girl picture (dad, she’s got no knickers on)
@@RickandHeather right after watching this video I found series one on RU-vid and decided to have a watch, my watch list now has series one. Unfortunately I am MacKenzie Crook's doopleganger when he was in the office 😂
Wonderful tour! Yes I watched the whole thing. I envied you the whole time as well. What an absolutely wonderful series this was! We only discovered it just before lock down. A shame some of these businesses have not capitalized on the shows popularity. I mean if I lived in Lances flat I would have to drive a yellow TR 7!😂 It is a bit of a pitch to get there from California.
@@RickandHeather Oh dear that is ashamed. Sounds very much like how they tend to do things here. Knock down the old. Put up something cheap and ugly. Not that the Scout Hut was an architectural gem, even still for the sake of the show’s popularity, I would have reclaimed it as a Detectorists shop, and sell DMDC Camo fleeces there! Maybe sell Lemonade. Perhaps put a bathing poor with sand in it…My mind races!
I'm like you. I loved watching it. I've watched every episode 4 times over in the last 3 weeks. Brilliant acting by all the cast. Mackenzie Crook done a brilliant job writing and directing it. After watching it for the first time I ordered my Nokta makro Simplex detector. Had it 2 weeks now. Still got to go out on my first dig. I've read that they are making another series of it. Should be end of this year. Series 4
Like me you're excited for the new Christmas special coming soon then! it really is a great show my favourite of all time i think. Thanks for watching.
Just foundd youe video & throughly enjoyed - thank you guys & doggies!! Ive only watched the entire 3 series 4 times so ive a little catching up to you😂 It must be both really weired & brilliant at thr same time to visit a place that we've watched on such a great program & fully understand you loosing your voice & breath a few times as id nw the same! Id love to visit framlingham in my very old rare audi quattro rally car & take some great pictures (ill try not to wake the dead up in it!!🤦🏼♂️) Where would i go about getting a comprehensive guide to the correct locations please chap if you dont mind me asking? Thanks for your upload & a great video 💯👌🏼👍🏼 Marco.

Until I saw the detectorists I thought that Essex was less than desirable, now I want visit. Btw I think it was one of the best sitcoms ever. It had everything I look for in a programme, humour, compassion, empathy, beleivability and great acting by all. So much so that can't stand hearing let alone seeing Simon Farnaby as I hated his character so much (sorry Simon). It's up there with Doc Martin.
Just like the fictitious Wombles live fictitiously on the real life Wimbledon Common, unfortunately the fictitious DMDC don’t live in the real life Essex… The show is filmed in and around Suffolk, Danebury itself being totally fictional and is in fact Framlingham. Thanks for watching though I think Mackenzie would be impressed you were totally fooled by his writing. 😊
@@RickandHeather awesome !!! I love that show so much, like you I was totally a little fanboy just watching it! I found a load more places if you're Intested ??
Look on Street View and the Scout Hut still visible, but on Google Earth normal satellite view, gone being converted to housing estate. How very sad, hope Scouts got a new hut out of the sale somewhere.
Just had to watch the program to see what it's about , very good watched 6 episodes 👌, ...its a bit ironic I have got my hands on a yellow TR7 ha ha 😂😄 flipping heck 😆🤣
@@RickandHeather I must admit I have really enjoyed it so far , I will have to watch it all now , just never even heard of it before but its so good "great recommendation" cheers for the info 🙂👍
Enjoyed this video thanks! Does anyone know were the Open Mic was filmed? I know they use the Kings Head Orford, The Crown, Great Glemham, The White Lion, ufford, The Castle Inn and Railway Inn - Fram, but not sure which one was used for the Open Mic?
