As long as the pattern doesn't go off the edge of the valve tip it's ok, meaning it makes no difference if it's a little high or low on the tip. What does make a difference is the length of the sweep in both directions from center. Adjust it till they are both equal then it's right. Don't forget, for a hydro lifter add the lifters preload figure to the push rod length and for solid subtract the valve lash figure from the push rod length before ordering push rods.

Good info, even if you are planning on hiring a shop to build your engine! Good to know what to look for and what to ask about. Hopefully I can find a good shop that has a good rep and is honest! :)

Can you be specific on why your stud threads going into the head are different length on intake and exhaust? Asking as I have similar Brodix Race-Rite oval port heads and the stud threads where all the same. Thanks.
@Myersmetalworks
@Myersmetalworks 3 года назад
Cant be specific on why AFR designed that into this particular heads... But my best (guess) is that they made it a little stronger because the exhaust valve has to over come not only the spring pressure, but also the combustion pressure to open the valve, to where the intake valve doesn't...
@RemoWest

Brodix Race-Rite heads are a direct replacement big block chevrolet head design. The AFR heads have raised exhaust ports and require longer bolts.

did you make a solid lifter? or are you using solid lifters?,,how do you arrive at the proper preload?
@Myersmetalworks
@Myersmetalworks 3 года назад
Hi John... The camshaft is a solid lifter cam so solid lifter it was, that I used.... To learn more about this look up Grumpy's Garage and check out some of the articles about this job on there forum... Hope this helps....

@@Myersmetalworks Thanks. I figure it had to be a solid lifter set up..I am working on a rover v8 which has hydraulic lifters. I have to use a pretty thick shim under my non adjustable rocker shafts..I was thinking it may be better to lose the shims and change the pushrod length instead.. I think the shimming up of the rocker shaft is affecting the rocker geometry..anyway thank you for the reply

Is that a 0-12" 0-300mm Japan Mitutoyo Absolute Digital Caliper 500-193-30 0.0005" 0.02 ??? Are those 3/8 push rods your using ? Thanks . Enjoy you videos very much.
@Myersmetalworks
@Myersmetalworks 3 года назад
Hi Mike... Mitutoyo Code No. 500-754-10, Model No. CD-12" PSX, The Push rods in the checking video are the factory ones that where modified for checking... I think they're smaller than 3/8... But the ones that are going to be running are 3/8 .135 wall Trend Performance push rods.

Where did you get that timing cover with the inspection cover. I'm looking for that same one. It's like a Cloyes but not quite the same, and Cloyes is much more expensive. Thanks.

It's a Cloyes cover...
@RemoWest

@@Myersmetalworks It didn't have the logo, so It looked different. I guess the "Cloyes" covers don't have the logo from what I have been reading. Seems like they'd update the picture on the package. Some guys probably want the logo cast into the cover as it is pictured. I don't care either way. Thanks for clearing things up.
@Myersmetalworks

Yes, I was hoping for the Cloyes logo on mine as well, but it didn't come with it.... I hear some have the Logo some don't...
