The lawn looks phenomenal. I dethatched at spring seeding and will do it again shortly when I reseed in September. Hadn’t thought about an interim dethatching in the summer, but I agree if the lawn is healthy and actively growing in then I don’t really see the harm either. My only recommendation is that if you’re dethatching w/o reseeding keep the tines high you don’t want to remove all of it since your objective is not seed to soil contact at this time. Great channel BTW, just subscribed.

Yes for sure! I set the power rake to level 0 which was pretty high didn’t want to dig the dirt up I’ll go -10 when I’m overseeding to almost till the dirt! Thanks so much for subscribing! 🙏🏾🤙🏾

Love to hear some personality in these educational videos. Also love that someone else on earth dethatched during summer. I did this past spring but there are some sections that still seem like they have a good amount of dead turf in it.

Dethatch follow up with aeration and a little bit of fertilizer not push lot of grow .can it be a super combo for the lawn in the summer to breathe getting all the water and nutrition ? Basic on a good health lawn ?

I have some thinning areas with some brown stuff sprinkled in but I'm thinking its maybe just gone dormant but not sure. Maybe I'll wait and see if it comes back in fall.

My lawn is WAY too thick, so my plan is to thin it out as much as possible starting now until mid-late August. It's a mix of KBG, PR, and fescue. I'm not happy with it's performance, and it's way too dense. So, I've basically given up on this lawn for this season, and figure I have zero to lose by thinning it 2 or 3 times before the reno. Actually, it would only be a GOOD thing if some of it died off during the process. It would clear the way for the new seed to germinate. Then, I'll overseed with a premium blend of TT tall fescue. In my experience, blue grass sucks....it always checks out every Summer, develops a fungus, etc. and I'm tired of it. I'll keep repeating the process (if necessary), until the TT tall fescue becomes dominant.

Yeah brother I feel you on the bluegrass! I haven’t tried elite bluegrass yet though could be a totally different experience! This is why I’m switching to perennial rye only in the front this fall for my Reno! Can’t wait!!! Yeah the blades and a verticut I’ll help your situation out for sure! I just did a verticut video last week check it out! 😊🙌🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DMPStgv-mD0.html

Ever think about switching to a single cultivar? Maybe a Kentucky Blue or a Rye grass and start reel mowing? Just curious.

@@YardBrah You should do the backyard only to start. That'd be great content for your channel. Then use those lessons learned next year for the front yard.

@@MarlonJoseGE Good Idea!!! It's hard waiting again for the front i mean the poa triv / annua patches are still trying to grow it's so annoying LOL!!!

I did mine today. It hasn’t been detach for 3 years and %50 of the mowing time isn’t bagged. It had ALOT thatch! It prevented water and fertilizer to penetrate the soil. I even start having a small in the backyard because of the amount of thatch and poor drainage. Tomorrow I will aerate and than over seed and fertilize. One question should I use weed and feed or only fertilizer. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Looks great. You said a couple of times to hold off if the yard is stressed. I have a JG year old lawn and we're mulching instead of bagging. Last month with the heat and stuff I started getting brown patches, dollar spots ect. I put down 2 different fungicides and its getting better but I want to dethatch. So I guess Im still recovering from stress but I have a lot of thatch down there. I want it gone. What would you do?

I live in near elk Grove CA and it's hot to the tenth power out here. My lawn is kinda greenish and I was thinking of dethatching. It's going to be 104 tomorrow! What do you think?
@YardBrah
@YardBrah 2 года назад
Well… that’s a tough one… if you are watering a ton I say do it then hit it up with a little bit of fertilizer after but not too much… wait what kind of grass is it? 😂 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾
