Love it, I’m in the middle of a Cummins V-378 transplant into my 68 4x4 f350 flatbed build. It’s to paint now but the engine kept running worse and worse, with huge amounts of blow by after putting new injectors into it. Got another lined up from a log skidder since the whole truck was built around that engine, before I do an autopsy.
I lugged an old school peterbilt down hauling potatoes and yep it started running backwards before I got the clutch pushed in and there was a lot of white smoke coming out the air filters lol you forget where the key is to shut it off when you’re in a wicked hurry, fired right back up
Yeah All the comments and the couple videos I've seen about them running backwards, they're definitely sending exhaust back out the air filter. Sounds like he's wrong here?
Love that Detroit sound. I was young and remember listening to skidders running Detroits at night when the ground was the most frozen. Thanks sawed off frenchman. You need to tame your fear of sparks. Make that connection and don’t be a Willard about it. Don’t be stunned.
You had me at "6V92" and then you lost me at "COVERED IN MICE" Jesus wept man, my skin is crawling vicariously. Do like that old International, though. 12/10 would get hantavirus again.
Its possible. Ive heard of a guy who put one in a square body. Main problem is your oil pan, make a smaller one. Id try and find an old I beam out of something like a loadstar You can have mine out of a brigadier if you help pull the engine and trans on it
You'd have to build a super truck. Get yourself a medium duty frame with front and rear axles, and at least a 5+2 Spicer trans, then shorten the frame and driveshaft, and stick a decent cab and box on it with a shitton of frame lift, lol. Be fucking sweet though!
Any of the 53s or 71s were awesome engines. They could have bad blower seals and a rod hanging out the side of the block and with a little either they would start and run every time.
Don't let them two smoke Detroit's idle in the cold as soon as it has stable oil pressure send it to at least 1200 so it will build some heat and seal the rings otherwise it will build crankcase pressure and blow oil out any where it can I got a 75 international with a v871 a 40sumfin allis Chalmers with a 471 a 72 kenworth with a v892
F450/550 can front can hold it fine, heck my gas f350 still has plenty to go, I can put 1500# more on the front axle and still be under gvwr. Detroit garage has some videos of one of these mocked up on a f550
@@grabasandwich Most I would say are for toys. Theres a guy who did a 453t in a newer f350 on here it is like it came from the factory with it. Its hooked to the auto and with all the sound material it is a great daily driver actually.
@@iBackshift I guess the guy who went and bought the 8v53 during your "lockdown" didn't give a fook about your government "lockdown". He won and you lost. I hope you learned never to follow the orders of tyrants.
@@fruitfarmfords8243 the 534; largest engine they made in peacetime and made of pure onobtainium; I'm particularly concerned about a new top -end tick! I take it we have the same trans: Manual 4 speed+R with a rear splitter? The clutch pedal pushes *you*?
@anthropicandroid4494 Awesome, big boy!! Yep, straight 4sp trans, but a single speed rear end with a no-spin locker. The 477 has 253hp, and is ridiculously torquey, i cant imagine the 534! Mine has less than 40k miles, it used to be a fire truck. I have videos of it on here if you want to check it out. You are correct, parts are scarce as people that even now these exist. It's the bigfoot of ford engine families.. haha Had some of my wifes family telling me it doesn't exist, saying it's either 429 or 460... nope, 401,477,534.
@@fruitfarmfords8243 at least the Holly carb is just a Holly carb! The 534 has little more HP, if any, but yeah that torque makes it fast, for a truck. Mine was also a fire truck--Van Pelt--but the tank is full of rust and the compound pump hasn't been run in years. Seriously considering pulling both and replacing with plastic+a light duty pump, just for hauling water or putting out grass fires. I'll look to your channel for tips, and will comment on one once I upload a vid of the old girl! That rear no-spin is pretty good off-road, but I've heard horror stories about understeer in rainy/wet conditions. Haha, and in a COE no less!
that rat rods nasty dude little to quiet tho, an that plow truck sounds like a good home for it, wonder what you got in mind for it as a finished truck, im sure itll be nasty what ever it ends up
