Great History Lesson. I have a 353 in a Dynahoe 190 Backhoe ( 1978) Never have done anything to Engine except clean oil & Filters. I also have a 71 SeaGrave with a 8-71 with Spicer 5 speed. Same with it just clean oil & Filters. I did have to replace Battery/ Alternator on 8-71 and clutch went out on it. Just did complete overhaul on tranny.( On history of all the maintenance records) on 8-71 they never had to do any major work. I think it was just time for clutch to go, after all those years. I like how hot Rod guys will take the air charger off the 71 series, put them on there Hot Rods to be a Blower of air. So meany Fire Rigs are powered by 92 series, with Allison Transmission. The checks Drivers can do for Transmission by just pushing the buttons. Or the service guy can check code faults same way. So meany Detroit's in old Fishing boats. That's my history on my girls. Thank you for this wonderful video. Will keep it as a reference, for all the History.

There is something to be said about the sound of a V 12 Detroit I remember that when I got into TRUCKING back in the 70s and 80s. Shell ESSO Suncor Some of their trucks used to have the V 12 Detroit awesome

When I drove trucks I liked the Detroit because it was less expensive to buy, less expensive to maintain and survived abuse better than other brands. While mean time between failure was worse, because they were easy and inexpensive to maintain, the total availability was better, just keep to your maintainence schedule. My friend bought his RV with a CAT he spent more up front, spends more always. He is very proud of his superior engine, and it runs beautifully.

We have a 95 Pete with the 470hp series 60. It's parked in the pasture now because the frame is bad but that detroit still pulls like brand new. Also have put 800k km on newer dd15 and only problem I ever had was the air dryer freezing and an idler wheel go out and break the fan belt. Super reliable engines all around

I love the cat engine had a few of them in my trucks.I would say nowadays I really like the PACCAR engine great fuel and cat low-end torque curve and very reliable and quiet .I have to admit I have had a few of the old Detroit’s the screamers and they sure sound cool

Hello peterbilt trucks I'm being told I'm nuts I just ordered my first paccar engine being built today hopefully getting it before new years. I'm told I'm stupid and I'm going to regret not buying a cummins. But I think anybody that calls another person stupid is probably stupid and I'm pretty confident in my decision

@@pepsonautotransport1322 No you are certainly not stupid I believe it is a very wise decision. Many people do not realize that 90% of all Pac Car engines will go 1,000,000 miles before needing an overhaul. That is compared to 50% of Cummins engines. Furthermore for the last three years I have been pulling wood chips and super Bs 140,000 pounds or 70 tons with the Pac Car it does a great job. We also have a few trucks identical except for the engine which are Cummins And they use about 125 L more a day than the Paccar to do the exact same job. Estimates here are around 25 to 32,000 extra dollars in fuel per year owning a Cummins. Trust me if these engines can pull these kind of weights and withstand harsh Canadian winters here in Alberta they can do anything.

Not bad however you missed the 92 series & 149 series. My all time favourite was the Silver 92 (8V92 475 HP). 16v149 was found in many marine applications. The series as in 71 indicates cubic inches per cylinder.

I find it crazy how the same engine used in trucks (8v92) has nearly double the power in its marine applications (720-735 HP). Shows how rock solid those things can be.

Having driven A Lot of miles on Detroit, Cummins and Cat … my preferences are; Cat, Cummins and Detroit in that order. The Detroit was a very good engine but had some strange characteristics. OTOH … An Electric “Range” of 230 miles!? On a fairly “Light” day (today) I log at LEAST 350 miles. As an Over The Road driver, a BAD Day was less than 500 miles. What the heck is 230 miles going to do?

Anyone knows what caind of the work and equipment likes or easy, cheap, etc.. for me I never changed my CAT 3408 with another type of engine I have a international eagle 9800 with a Detroit S60 470hp it's good engine but not strong like a CAT 3408 but this truck loading maximum 36ton brutos good for lower fuel but if loading a 50ton it's a standard heavy here in Norway so the CAT 3408 wind a less fuel and much stronger and I use a less time 👌👌👍 not electronics sensors and stuffs never ever get stuck on low temperatures -40 -45 not problems 👏👏👌👍 easy maintenance I loved my CAT 3408 this is a inmortal engine never ever rebuilding right now passed a 4millions kms on it!! and still running like a new 🤔👏👏👌👍 I can't complain just I recommend for a guys wants a engine runs for many years and many millions kms without rebuilding 👏👏👌👍 cheers from North of Norway 🇳🇴

I don’t think heavy duty trucks of electrification will do well long haul it’s just too much electricity being depleted in such a short period of time and then when you’re going up and down hills it’s going to deplete the electricity even faster so I don’t think electrical wire for Quetion will be good I just think it’s a waste of money it’s just a Masters of trying to figure another way to swap money with other generations and I think it’s a joke electric trucks drive them into the salt water did junk and I don’t know why you people think you’re saving the planet because in the end lithium mines in a better than coal mines and you gotta use lots and lots of fresh drink of water to mine lithium just look at Argentinas toxic waterways and you’ll see how wonderful the theme is lithium batteries
@Perkelenaattori
@Perkelenaattori 2 года назад
The weight of the battery will be so much that you won't be able to haul heavy either. The advantage with a fuel cell is that you need maybe a 15 kw battery because the cell will be generating the electricity. Then again we'll be needing a hydrogen logistics industry.
