Some additional recommendations would be Michigan Central Station (major renovation by Ford), Greektown, Mexicantown, Hamtramck, any of the casinos, Campus Martius Park (urban beach in the summer and ice skating rink in the winter), The Belt, Eastern Market, Detroit Princess Boat Tour, Belle Isle, Belle Isle (aquarium, beach, James Stott Memorial Fountain (similar to Buckingham Fountain in Chicago)), etc.

Detroit!!! Great to see the city again (I'm from the Detroit area originally), loved the aerial footage of the Fox Theater and the Little Caesar's Arena. Actually the first time I have seen what it looks like (RIP Joe Louis Arena, where the Wings used to play). Glad you got to explore downtown (the Tigers won today, too!) and I would also recommend the Detroit Institute of Art (it is home to a great collection including Diego Rivera murals) and the Motown Museum, where you can see where "Stop, in the Name of Love" was recorded! Safe travels!

So interesting to see an outsiders real take. While I probably wouldn't put the word 'gentrification', and the phrase 'much nicer', so close together in a sentence, I will say that the redevelopment downtown is not as geographically exclusive as such projects are in other cities. Money has gone to our neighborhoods as well. As someone who spent a decade in Brooklyn, and watched whole neighborhoods 'flip' in the worst possible ways, I've found that this process in Detroit - while in no way perfect - is generally more empathetic toward lifelong residents - with existing communities allowed to voice their ideas and concerns, and play a larger role in the redevelopment - than in places like NYC LA or Chicago. Detroit will be a New World Capital.

So many people who speak about Detroit being so horrible have never even been in Detroit but go off of popular opinion especially through the media. Others go to the wrong spots in Detroit and assume all Detroit is bad and awful. Detroit is a mixed bag but there are thriving neighborhoods, fun things to do, decent cost of living, nice people and low crime in many areas of Detroit. You just need to know where to go.

Appreciate the video. There's a lot of more interesting things you missed but this is ok for someone unfamiliar with Detroit. You should of did a bit more research on things to do. Unfortunately, you came during the lockdown. We just opened back up in June. If you do this again, come in the summer and check out the other entertainment areas downtown like Greektown, the rooftop restaurants/ bars, the skip, the belt, and the casinos. And on the riverwalk floating bars, jet ski's, and boat cruises. Also check out Midtown, Belle Isle, Eastern Market, Dequindure Cut, Mexicantown and Hamtramck. And Downtown is fun and all but that's only a fraction of all the things there is to do in the entire Metro Detroit area. There's alot of different communities and vibes and you can do 95% of the things you can think of in a major metro area.

@@SIN-oz1kx Google does not return any recent "Corktown shooting" results, and Crime Viewer shows 4 robberies for the past month, none in Corktown. It's not really unique in terms of crime.

Best way to see Detroit, drive by. Only thing worth doing is going to a sports game. All the teams have new facilities.

Detroit is 142.9 SQUARE MILES. Not the largest in America, but HUGE! Therefore it is accommodating for any income. Whether you are rich or poor there's a place for you. There's more beautiful area's than there are slum. You just have to know how to navigate your way around. I will admit it's NOT a playground, but if you know your way around, you know where you can be and where you should NOT be. Having written that: the media of course only wants to display the unsavory aspects of Detroit. They don't want you to use GOOGLE and surf across Detroit's Palmer Park, Palmer Woods, Sherwood Forest, Rosedale Park, North Rosedale Park, Indian Village, Mayfair Park subdivision, Russel Woods, Boston Edison District, The University District of Detroit, Wayne State University District, Bagley Area and many other beautiful areas I could name. Anyhow; Detroit is The State of Michigan's cash cow! The state of Michigan collects more in revenue in property taxes, automobile registrations, license plates, liquor licenses, lottery revenue and etc than ANY OTHER city in the state of Michigan and everybody knows it. And that includes the ultra rich city and the residents of Bloomfield Hills. That's why the state of Michigan stepped in during the bankruptcy of 2009 because of the mismanagement of funds.
