Theres no point arguing with people who don’t follow hockey or understand a hard cap world. Its not like other sports where players are drafted and can contribute immediately. These are 18 year old kids that your gambling on 2-4 years down the road. You can’t judge this rebuild until you see how Edvinsson, Mazur, Kasper etc pan out. We are finally at the point where we will see if our prospect pool pans out, then you can judge the rebuild.

U guy’s have to stop making excuses. Its been over 2 years now. Steve walking into what he walked into is a typical situation when a team is just coming off of 25 years of playoffs and being successful for about 30….. Holand left behind a lot… a lot of things for Steve to work with. ie obtaining draft picks and a few high end players for Steve to trade that was during Holland’s tenure… Its time to move on. It’s been 5 years now… Ot doesn’t take a GM to get out of the hole that the franchise was in that long. 2 years it takes. Steve is at his 3rd year now. With mostly his own team he has constructed. The rebuild will be another 2 to 4 years.

This team was gonna take at least 5 years to turnaround, knowing that Holland left it in Cap Hell with only 4 players on the roster that had real NHL Value (Larkin, Bertuzzi, Mantha and Hronek). 3 of those players were traded out for some good returns. the only thing that went wrong that Yzerman couldn't predict was Vrana, which he would still be a great middle six scorer if he kept his head straight. Worst part is the prospect pool was non existence when Yzerman came aboard so he had to replenish that as well as building an actual NHL roster.

One huge point you missed for the NHL vs NFL debate: players going into the NFL draft are 20+yrs old. Players going into the NHL draft are 17-18yrs old There’s a lot of growing these young players have to go through before they sniff NHL ice unless your name is Connor McDavid, Connor Bedard, Auston Matthews Also - The NFL has more players than the NHL entering the draft and selected from the draft. The biggest problem is that people who don’t follow the NHL but follow their local team don’t understand how long hockey rebuilds take. They don’t get it. They just see the NFL and think it can take 1-2 years if you get a QB. Add no lottery luck and it’s worse. They got one of the best prospect pools in the NHL. Again blinded by the NFL. It’s not the same sport or league but they want to pass blame because they have ADD. They need another 1-3 years.

Also, in 2015, 2016, and 2018, Tampa lost to the eventual cup champs while also losing in the final in 2015. To all casual fans that do not understand how rebuilds work in Hockey, full on rebuilds take 8-10 years to get back to a legitimately deep run contending team. Football you can get away with 1, maybe 2 seasons and be fine, but hockey needs development through the draft, otherwise you're going to be a one and done playoff team once every 3-4 years and nothing to show for it. So far, Yzerman has been the GM of the Red Wings since 2019, or five years. To compare with Tampa, he was the GM there from 2009 until 2019. The Lightning started showing playoff strides in 2015, or about six years after he took over. They didn't even win the cup until AFTER he stepped down. As he said during his first press conference, "This takes time." We are FINALLY seeing the strides in Detroit that Tampa was seeing in 2014 and 2015, and the best is still long yet to come. Be patient Detroit. Hockey is a beautiful and amazing sport, but it is also a VERY different animal than football.

Let’s not forget that Jim Devellano took over as GM in 1982 and didn’t win a Cup with us till 1997. He built the dynasty. Things just take longer in the NHL and Steve came into a complete crap show where all of our future assets had been traded away by Holland to try and keep the playoff streak going. Yzerman needs more time and we cannot be like buffalo, NJ, SJ, Anaheim, etc who are just revolving doors of management and coaches. Prospects take time to develop in the NHL. NFL rookies arent 17 or 18 years old fully kids still growing and developing. There will be regression at points and improvements at others. This past season was a perfect example. And even with "splashes," nothing is guaranteed. Look at edmonton and the draft luck they had. You win by building a functional system and putting players that fit that system and succeed in that system. The cup teams we had in the 90s and 00s didnt have any Hart trophy, Richard Trophy, or Vezina teophy winners either. Success will come. People who don't know puck need to stop commenting on the Yzerplan. 1) Not signing big name free agents is often a good thing because most of the WORST deals in hockey are made on July first. If you look at the top free agents in hockey over the years, most of them don't win ships (Tavares in Toronto, Johnny Hockey in Columbus, for example) 2) NHL drafts 17-18 year old kids while the NFL is drafting people ready to make an impact immediately. Simply put hockey players take longer to develope especially goalies and defense. Ultimately it takes time to build a serious cup contender in the sport.

You can't compare Brad Holmes and the Lions to Steve and the Red wings. It's like comparing apples and oranges. In the NFL 2024 draft the average age of the prospects was 23 years old ok. The average age of a NHL 2024 prospect is about 18 or 19 years old. You're talking about a gap of about 4 to 5 years in development between a NFL pick compared to a NHL pick. That is huge and we can easily say if the NHL did it the same way as the NFL of course our draft picks would change. It would be so much easier to spot the studs because they are so much further along in their development. NHL players take more time to develop and come of age so that is why it will take longer. Steve is doing exactly what I've told everyone he was going to. He resigned Kane like i said he would and also signed a new star in Tarasenko like I said he would. He is doing this to have them help develop the young studs like what Kane did to Raymond this last season. I understand if you are a casual it's not obvious so no hate to anyone.

Tarasenko is not 6’1. Listed as 5’11 or 6’0 depending on where you look. And listed heights for hockey players are almost always exaggerated by 1-2 inches. But he is solid. Built like a brick shit house.

NHL draft picks are usually 17 - 18 yrs old. NFL Picks are usually 20 - 21 yrs . Much longer timeline in developing players before they're ready for the big stage.

@DankNastyBets

Guy in the Lions shirt should never try to speak about hockey again until he understands it fully. You don’t come on a broadcast speaking on a situation or sport you don’t know fully about. Yzerplan is going how any true hockey fan/player knows it’s supposed to pan out. Just like he probably hasn’t realized that every year, they’ve either got more points or finished with the same amount as the prior. Never gone backwards. His situation in Tampa was a cake walk for someone with his hockey IQ. It takes time to rebuild a dynasty with what he was handed when he came to Detroit. He’s building them back correctly and they eventually will be contenders for years to come.

You cannot compare football to hockey. Football, the draft picks almost certainly get directly inserted into your lineup the same season as draft. Hockey takes 2-3 years to see a good prospect play in the league, and that is if they are crushing it in the AHL. Not comparable at all between the sports. Closest comparable is baseball.

I've been playing hockey for 20 years, juat to preface what im about to say. It is ok to question Yzermans moves. Last year he signed a bunch of free agents to the point that not 1 of his prospects came up to play last year. This year, Yzerman has done the same thing. If you're planning a youth movement, you can't keep signing free agents and not bringing up the youth. You will then just be Ken Holland overripening his players. If you're also planning on bringing up guys like Kasper, Mazur, Danielsson, Sandin Pelica, etc. You also can't do it all in one year and not expect regression. Another point, Yzerman has 7 goalies signed between the NHL and AHL. Why would you not question that? If you think that's ok, then you're just following Steve blindly and, to you, he can do no wrong . . . Ever.

This argument is so bananas🤦‍♂ Anybody that doesn't understand the Yzerplan has very low intelligence. These people do not take into account the absolute dumpster fire Holand left SY. If SY started for scratch, thats one thing, but he started from the deep hole he inherited. He started behind the 8ball right away. It was gonna take 3 years just to fix the cap situation. then it was gonna take another 3 years to fix the roster. Me being a logistics/analytical guy, I looked at our situation and gave SY 6 years till we climbed out of the hole, and looks like Im spot on. BTW: SY is not immune from criticism. The Chariot, Copp, JT, Holl, Petry additions/contracts were completely unnecessary and IMO ridiculous. I am still scratching my head why SY overpaid and over-termed Copp and JT back to back years while drafting Kasper and Danielson back to back at the very same time. Still makes no sense. The Copp contract already hurts and the JT(even though he's the better signing of them all) will hurt soon, considering their much cheaper and likely better replacements are about a year away from being in Detroit.

I think dude in the blue shirt doesn't understand that player development arcs are a lot longer in the NHL. Unless you luck out with a top 3 pick (which isn't even a guarantee in every draft) it's most likely gonna be 3-5 years before your 1st rd guys even hits the NHL. You aren't drafting from a tailor made pool of prospects who are already grown men, you are drafting mostly 17-18 year old kids from all over the world. A full NHL organizational rebuild can absolutely take a decade, especially if you get zero lottery luck. You don't have to like it, but that's the way it is.

IMO, they've improved their goaltending, they've improved defensively, they've lost offense. I think the overall record will be close to last season's, probably a bit worse, and they miss the playoffs again. I predict that Kane will likely be dealt at the trade deadline.

Howard was a well above average goalie playing behind some of the worst defenses the league has seen in the past 20 years. His "goals in support" stat was one of the lowest of all time and the "high danger scoring chances against" one of the highest. In short, he was screwed.

This guy is dumb...Yzerman came back as GM in the 2019-2020 season. They had 39 points that year! (91 points last year. So over double the points in 5 years) Holland didn't go down with the ship he burned the ship, pissed on it to put it out and then shit on the ashes. Mantha, Zadina were "the future of the redwings" when he left. No one... I mean no one else was in the pipeline to help. That Year (2019) Yzerman drafted Seider and Johansson who should be both studs in the NHL. But his best pick from his first draft year is only just finished his second season and you want to cut the cord. You guys are all nuts.
