The first thing that I do when I set up is to make sure that the bow of my boat is heading into the wind. The wind/waves is going to be the main reason why you will not stay vertical and usually want your bow of your boat facing it so you can stop it from knocking you off course. I also always use my directional auto pilot if you have one. I wouldn’t say you have to use it, but it helps keep you straight if you ever have to drop the remote to reel in a fish or net a fish. Aside from those two basic things the main thing that I pay attention to is the direction that my line is drifting. You always want your motor to be facing whatever direction your line is heading. I always think of it like I am chasing down my lure. If your line is drifting to the right you want your motor turning to the right. If your line is drifting in front of you, you want your motor to be facing in front of you. You just have to adjust the speed based off of how strong the wind is that day.
