Took spud out into da unknown in search of some eyes. Storm came in a shooed us off the lake. Top speed slower than da wind. Picked up a couple nice fish
That was a good outline of how to die on the lakes! Many before you thought they'd be fine too and weren't as fortunate, ten minutes in the water and your new home is the icewater mansion!
Love the old school setup, haha. That's pretty much what I learned on with a motorboat as a kid- we had a 14' 50's era boat with an old Johnson 5hp outboard for our little lake in back of where we lived. If you really want to get spendy with an anchor, I highly recommend a 12lb digger anchor. Two are even better- they cost about $100 apiece, but they hold your boat rock solid. The boat I use these days is a far cry from the one I learned on- it's a 20 year old Alumacraft with a 50hp merc 4 stroke tiller. I have a livewell, open cockpit, all the bells and whistles available at that time and are now standard on most new boats. Just wished I had a bow mount trolling motor on it, lol.
Hey mister, that’s a no wake zone! 😂😂. Just messing with you Captain 👨✈️ 😃. Glad you made it out and caught dinner 😋😋. See you out there soon!!!! Thanks for sharing 🎣🎣🎣
Grabbed me a 12' sea nymph this year. Been up in Ohio now for 6 years and 2 miles off the lake and even closer to Fairport Harbor so I'll be out there this year with ya. New to fishing the area so should be fun.
you definitely got some balls bro I actually bought my boat in Sandusky the day you were out and let me tell you bro it was freezing lol i would have never went out that day
Dude, I would watch more of your videos. That was Captivating. 😂 you gota great attitude and Demeanor. Goodluck in your future endeavors and Tight lines to ya!👍🏽
Haha thanks man! I made the channel originally to just store all my “home movies” of our up north land. The fishing stuff I figured I’d just throw in for fun. There will be plenty more coming now. Fishing has really picked up here. Our land videos are fun to watch too. Just some good fun in the woods. There’s lots of fishing in those videos too
Great job getting out your one die-hard fisherman, but next time in cold water drag a friend along, you don't last long in that water, have a great season
That's a braver man than me on that bike. Two wheels on the highway in that weather... woof. I've never ridden where it snows. I think I'd wait for later in spring. But I WOULD get out to fish. That looks like fun.
I left Cleveland almost 50 years ago. Back then the lake was a cesspool, full of pollution from the steel mills etc. That was about the time the toxic slick on the Cuyahoga river caught on fire! Times change, looks like the lake is a lot cleaner now then way back when I was there. Miss catching those walleyes! Damn good eating fish. Didn’t they used to call them blue pike?
Absolutely. Outings like this are quadruple check days on all equipment and conditions. In this video I was only on the water for about an hour. The moment I notice it picking up at all, I leave. The snow coverage makes it seems like I’m a ways off shore, but in reality I was within 1/4 mile or so. You could see shore in person. I troll superior from ice out until freezeup in this boat much more often than Erie. It’s where I cut my teeth in this setup
@@blakemacdonald71 Lmao someone’s got an ego. I bet you can’t even touch water without your trolling motor, your four graphs, your pumpkin seed minnow, your lipstick, your maxi pads, perfect conditions, and a case of white claw 😘😘
fan4life 34, I agree. It's not about the fishing, it's about surviving for your family with water temps in the 40 degree range depending. I admire their love of fishing, but fish on the Maumee River right now. Great catches. If you land in Lake Erie and are stuck in the water, you'll be unconscious in about 30 minutes or so. Your message (Fan), was be safe to the rest of us. Great advice.
@@blakemacdonald71 I am aware of these types of techniques to prepare for an unexpected exposure. This is not a criticism, it's an observation and an educational type of exchange. How many of us have read those news article where someone in a small boat or kayak, went out on the lake on a sunny 75 degree and capsized into 45 degree water and died. Experienced boaters are aware of this, but most who are not experienced do not think of the safety factor. I appreciate your comment.
There is a nice trench that is out in front of the pier at the state park there that the walleye like to hang out at. It about100-200 yards out from the rock wall there where you come out on the lake. It's not real deep there maybe 8-12 feet deep but the walleye seem to like it there.
My fishing boat is an old beat up 12 ft fiberglass with a tiny 2.5 4 stroke Yamaha.....my boy and I outfish 95% of the guys fishing Bridge lake in the Cariboo for kokanee with their big fancy boats and downriggers ....they pull by and try to stare at our gear or ask what we are using I have a 200$ portable hummingbird and that's as fancy as I get......just using leadcore and 6 weight flyrods Our lake is big and can get foggy....I always keep a compass in my fishing vest
I got caught out there on a 28 footer and was glad to get back in. Wind pick up see nothing but sky, then boat would come up waves coming over bowe, wasn't fun.
where were you fishing? Is that by the islands or were you further east. I live in PA and would like to start fishing for walleye in late feb and march but dont feel like driving to Catawba area. Was wondering if you could pick up decent walleye out of Cleveland that early. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?
@@regdunlop91 Very cool! I am from Brandenburg an der Havel and go fishing for the "Europäischer Wels" (Catfish) in the River Havel and Oder. This is real action fishing with very strong fish. Your winter fishing is really hard struggle. Respect!
@@regdunlop91 deep v or was it like a John boat with a v up front? I’m looking to get a little 14ft v jon boat but have just been seeing what other people have been using.
@@tomball7681 V front, flat bottom. It’s quite a stable little boat actually. Much more stable than my slightly larger 14’ sylvan v front/flat bottom. I also use a yellow 14’ mirrocraft deep v in my videos that is solid as a rock. Biggest annoyance using the little boat in this video- the 6hp is a great motor, but takes quite a long time to get out to the depths I’m usually after. Only runs about 10-12 with all my gear, which feels fine on inland lakes.
@@regdunlop91 thanks for the reply I’m looking at a 14ft v front I sold my 16 deep v recently becuase it was too nice to hunt out of so I was trying to get a boat that was usable for a little bit of everything.
@@tomball7681 yeah most of my other boating videos are in my 14 mirrocraft. V front, pretty flat in the back. Thing is a tank. It’ll zip across a gravel bed, cut through weeds, and handle some pretty hefty Great Lake chop without breaking a sweat in any venue
Haha yeah if I notice those big belly females around spawning time, I’ll toss em back. It’s such a strong fishery though, that I’m sure it wouldn’t make a difference keeping a few females.
No beer or dogs what ? I bring a spare battery and a good set oars and I like to bring a blaze orange jacket my small boat is painted camo I want to know other boats can see me has gotten scary afew times
Grew up on the lake and still live near by it can be real tough out there due to being a swallow lake big water as people around here call it can and does turn evil very quickly
