The size of the homes are ideal for retirees living on a fixed income, and I see improvements with some of the homes restored and lived in. Charlie, thank you for sharing Detroit and keeping us updated on the improvements being made. Detroit is like the Phoenix bird rising from the ashes ..........reborn. Please keep showing us the positive aspects of Detroit and how much it has to offer the world. I was born and raised in Detroit and I see a future for this great city, it will prosper again and be one of the greatest cities in Michigan. Positive and warm feelings for Detroit going your way, and thank you again for your insightful videos.
what i like is how wide the roads are and how spaced usa houses are, in the uk an area like this these worth a fortune. People are what make areas beautiful and respectable
There aren't really "multiracial" neighborhoods in Detroit, seeing that it is 80% black. I bet if you pulled the demographics of this one neighborhood, you would see that it is still predominately black. Nice video though
I can't get over the fact that there's a noticeable amount of foreign brand vehicles in Detroit now. I remember a time when you would get shit for doing that.
My coworker grew up on the west side of Detroit during the 1980s, and even then, he said that Honda Accords were one of the most desired cars to have there. Detroit is currently around 80% black, and actual surveys and statistics found that African-Americans favorite car is the Nissan Altima. So, statistically, Japanese brands will still be found there. However, Ive noticed more Dodge Chargers and Chrysler 300s in the majority-black areas of SE Michigan than in other communities so there is still a bit of a difference there versus the rest of the country. Another thing is, Japanese cars still have a better reputation for reliability with a lot of people. Many of the neighborhoods seen in these videos are impoverished, and lower-income drivers assume that a Japanese car will require less repairs, therefore, less maintenance costs.
John A I know John! , This is not even "a hood". It is actually a pretty nice neighborhood. People seem to get along. Yes, there maybe 1/10 houses abandoned, but ATLEAST they are in great condition, AND NOT VANDALIZED AND OR BURNED DOWN!
CharlieBo313 Charlie, this is not even "a hood". It is actually a pretty nice neighborhood. People seem to get along. Yes, there maybe 1/10 houses abandoned, but ATLEAST they are in great condition, AND NOT VANDALIZED AND OR BURNED DOWN!
@@CharlieBo313 hey where in detroit is this and i was also going to ask is from like 6 and telegraph to 8 and telegraph safe, and grand river and 7 mile and 8 mile and berg rd, that part of nothwest detroit i mean?
There was a mixed neighborhood nearby where I grew up, (Tacoma, Wa). There was an ex-marine white guy and a black guy living across the street from him. They were the real cops of the block. Any crap that came in they were quickly expelled by these two. They even made the local news. Gangs knew to stay clear of that area because of these two block watchers. The place was clean, neat and tidy. One of my best friends a Latino guy I worked with and I rode motorcycles with also lived on this block. Black, white and Latino all on the same block. Near the hilltop on area of Tacoma and anyone familiar knows this area has had its ups and downs.
That's so awesome!! My best friend grew up in the brightmoor neighborhood in Detroit, and a similar situation was in place... the guys on the block were all very good friends and watched out for each other and their families. When a house wasn't kept up, they went as a group and made it known they didn't put up with that thru intimidation!!! When a house was abandoned they burned it down!!! No joke!! Many of them were fire fighters so it was well known that the fire department was very slow to get to abandoned house fires!! Instead of having an abandoned drug house on the block they made sure it was an empty lot!!!! Lol!!!
Nice to meet a fellow Tacoman, all of South Tacoma, South End, Eastside, Central, Hilltop, and Downtown is all multi racial. A perfectly even mix of White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Mixed Race, and Pacific Islander, and the Eastside as a lot of Native Americans as well. It's nice to live in a hood where everyone of all races can get along
@@ramboeastwood1522 the entire Eastside 38th St to 72nd is repped by gangs. Hilltop is run by crips, and the Indian reservation has a bunch of native gangs. Heck, my home is in blood territory
Am I the only person who sees that, in the functioning neighborhoods featured in this video, virtually every car parked in driveways and on the street is older and looks well-used? Contrast that with the numerous videos in dysfunctional neighborhoods and you see PLENTY of shiny new vehicles and tricked-out older vehicles. Perhaps poverty and dysfunction is little more than a matter of upside-down priorities?
I know, I saw a brand new Chevy Tahoe at 1:53 and some fairly new Ford Explorers. Those new Tahoes are fit for being the escort people like the top brass of our country, it's shocking to see one in such a run-down neighborhood. Granted, I do see them (the fully loaded new ones) in the Walmarts around my town a lot but I doubt they're hood-dwellers.
Noticed it myself and posted here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jlwgnEmXZKM.html&lc=z22qxtaqgta3zfyfhacdp433vewmswxiv1ltaudxbvlw03c010c.1523557068841690 I thought this was an American thing or "thang" but never considered this perspective!
No, racists see that not every race deals with poverty the same way. At least if you are a child with poor White parents you have a better chance of being raised with a mom and a dad.
No talking, no commentary. That way it will last forever as a pure snapshot of this once great American city. It's really like witnessing the decline of Rome through Nero's eyes.
Crooked Chap. Whatever power status is just stupid. Glad i don't live there. Looks depressing. Live in the suburbs in Houston, will retire 2 yrs and moving back to my hometown north of Houston. Have property which i inherited from my parents going to build a big house on the land and enjoy retirement. And travel! Proud to be a Texan😀
Great neighborhood for a real estate agent. "This one here with the porch is Little Italy. Chinatown just up ahead, third house on the right. Unfortunately, the burned-out lot on the corner was our Little India. Until last year."
Little Italy ...in Detroit where I grew up as a child and all my close relatives were within a one mile radius. It was a delight to go door to door and receive treats, drinks, snacks, and even a meal from my family members. Especially, on Halloween when I would clean up and fill a pillow case with candy and treats.
For everyone that keeps saying this not a hood. A "Hood" is not the physical location. It's the mentality. It is up to the community to ensure that physical health and the children of the community are safe.
Allan Biala I know! Charlie, this is not even "a hood". It is actually a pretty nice neighborhood. People seem to get along. Yes, there maybe 1/10 houses abandoned, but ATLEAST they are in great condition, AND NOT VANDALIZED AND OR BURNED DOWN!
But you DO still have institutional racism.....Probably the most "diverse" "multiculti" nation in the world.....Still has racism....So what have we learned here libnutters?...Absolutely Nothing!!!

ALL PEOPLE HAVE HANGOUTS WHITE BLACK IT DON'T MATTER YOUR COLOUR 80S ELISABETH PARK HAD CAR GROUPS FROM TRENTON TO WYANDOTTE ALL WHITE HANGOUTS. AND YES CRIME TOO.
Some people like the fact that I let the video speak for itself which is what I prefer, and some people have been requesting for me to talk throughout the video. One of the next one I do I will narrate throughout the video and see how it does.
+Tippers Dad yet you seem to ignore the fact that the Whites are not up keeping their homes as well. maybe it's do to you're ignorant way of thinking, or your hatred towards Black people.
If there is a "non profit" that says the words "housing Authority" in the title, and comes to your area, then RUN! Your neighborhood is about to go to SHIT! Get out while you can before they beat your kids on the bus and drop your property value by 160 percent.
Nissin14: It's interesting that you took my comment as negative to blacks. That just tells me that you agree with the stereotype. It looks like you have some racial issues that you need to work on.
@@jackburton6998 Hahaha, there is a "housing authority" in almost every town and city in Massachusetts/New England. From poor/middle class areas(Lowell, Brockton) to rich yuppie towns like Concord/Lexington/Arlington. Its subsidized housing. Why you so afraid of poor/disabled people? Lol
Every house In Detroit I lived in is either abandoned or gone. If a house isn't occupied even for one day, the copper pipes and aluminum sidings are stripped. I watched one house getting stripped in the middle of the afternoon!
Pete Ard You know what Buffalo is turning bad I went up there to visit family and it was a huge shocker how bad it's gotten since I was last there it's actually disgusting
Yeah Roger keep shoving the blame everywhere but on yourself like a typical liberal. And you useless trashbags wonder why nobody gives a fuck about you or your problems. Keep living in denial. I'll keep enjoying watching your lives fall apart.
It is really no surprise that the multi cultural areas.. especially ones where whites live in area are not as shit as those primarily resided in by blacks. Oh my god I had no clue how bad Detroit was until I saw your channel and videos man. Wow.. im blown away.
the houses most are well kept and then there is one boarded up mess , then a couple nice ones again, , a couple of the boarded up ones had near yards, so means the neighbors are doing it. Good video , thanks
It doesn’t matter who lives in these neighborhoods, we are all gods children. This is what’s wrong with this damn country, to many people see color. I don’t see color, I see my brothers and sisters.
man where s all the homes doing there homey shit like the brothers saying shit like you ll ma man get down wiff some pun k junk sunk hunk man i ll be chillin like a villian and splitting wiff ma homes man what gig you from cuz man like you aint to be in our hood if no be cool for school omey dig what i be say you know man where s all that shit
They should force the owners of the boarded up ones to either fix them or tear them down. It looks like there are some really nice houses and some decent white people, so there is hope. My neighborhood is in the mist of a conversion to all section 8 blacks. I will need to move out in a year or two. My house has been rendered worthless. It's sad and it pisses me off.
Would one be able to purchase pipe tobacco in that shop? I would like to buy some Carter Hall, Prince Albert, Velvet, Sir Walter Raleigh, Half & Half, Paladin Black Cherry, and some Mixture No.79.
No reason we just love walking in the streets..The sidewalks are wide enough but if you have a group nobody wants to keep looking back to chat..I did it all my life and now I now live down south and ..They mostly don't have them either LOL....
This is the westside. Grew up there on a street named Fielding across the street was my elementry school McColl. Went to Lessinger Jr. high and graduated from Cody high school in 1878.
If you're shy, get someone whose not and get commentary, you'd get more subs, a lot more. Go to other cities and run through there hood, you could be rolling it in.
