This song and the voice of Ernie Harwell are such wonderful parts of my childhood. We miss you, Ernie Harwell! Also known as the Bell Telephone March by composer Louis Francesco.
I had been humming this all day and now I found it on You Tube. Thanks cybersnob for posting this music and the wonderful voice of Ernie Harwell whom I listened to while growing up in the 50's and 60's.
"Here's the stretch and the pitch ... STRIKE THREE CALLED!!! He stood there like the house by the side of the road and watched that one go by". The best there ever was!!! God bless you, Ernie!!
When i was a kid, getting ready to play ball, would keep this tune in my head as i ran unto the field!! Days of listening to the games w/Dad..miss you Dad....you too Ernie!
I remember my Grandpa listening to the game on his GE transistor radio in the breezeway. He said he hated the Tigers but I know deep down he loved them.GoTigers, Ernie was the best!!!!!!
I could remember how this theme music went, it started with a growl, and during the theme music the sponsors' names were voiced-over, the most familiar of which was fire-brewed Stroh's Beer. This is the first time I have HEARD the music since I left Michigan. Thank you!
Wow I have been looking for this for years I grew up listening to the Tigers every night as a kid in the 70's and 80's and I always remember that theme song. And Ernie Harwell was such a big part of my life and when ever i hear that voice I am transformed back to my youth
My childhood was filled with the sounds of Ernie (and Paul); my summers were made magical by the lilting voice of Ernie who, despite some really horrible years on the field, made me believe that the Tigers were always in the game. Thanks Ernie !
I remember Van Patrick announcing on the radio and Goebel Beer and Speedway 76 as sponsors. We've had some great announcers from George & Al (it's a bright, sunshiney day here in Detroit) to Ernie and Paul Carey plus Ray Lane. Sure do miss them all.
I have been waiting to hear this theme before all games the past few years and only heard it once. Growing up it was a Tiger baseball trademark for all the years that I can remember I would hope that it would continue to be just that!
Tiger legend, Al Kaline recently passed away. So many great baseball memories as I was growing up. He was certainly a superstar. He was also a household name; literally. I'm sure you have heard of "alkaline" batteries. Another household name on the team with him if you have a typewriter or a computer (some computers) - Don WERT. May Al rest in peace and power in Heaven.
Let's see if I can get this right.... "The broadcast of this game has been brought to you by the Detroit Tiger Baseball club. Any replay retransmission or rebroadcast of this game without prior consent is expressly prohibited by the Detroit Tiger Baseball Club. This is the Detroit Tiger Baseball Network"
I am still trying to find out the name of this band march. I am not having any luck at all. All I can suggest (if you live in Michigan) is finding an old band director (a "band master") and asking him (I said, "him," because many decades ago there were not women band directors). I may need to check with the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, etc. and look for retired band directors that might know.
Does anyone know the name of this piece (march) and who composed it? I remember hearing it in a film documentary on Cuba when I was a substitute teacher.
