Here in Argentina i a super common swap. It's common to see f100's with 4 and 5 cyl deutz. Another common swap are 4 and 6 perkins. I absolutely love the old diesel swaps. I have a 62 F 100 with a 4 cyl perkins. It hard to drive, hard to steer and slow af , but i love it! Lol

I'm wondering with all that low end torque if a modern 8 speed automatic transmission would improve gas mileage and top speed in one modification? Especially in an even lighter and more aerodynamic body. Like a stretched VW Bug and diesel engine (Testarossa type side air intakes) mid-mounted behind driver, oil cooler and fuel up front. You'd have a decent daily driver highway machine sipping at 60mpg going 70mph. How fast it gets to 70mph depends on gearing and curb weight, but being obsessed with drag strip times is something the fellas worried about what the fellas might think a bit much. Most of us really just want sustainable reliable rides that are both affordable and low impact on the environment. This swap is definitely in the spirit of that aspiration.

@Greg-io1ip

Why would it be 'much heavier'? Are you paying attention to all the parts eliminated? You think he's getting 45mpg because "it's much heavier"? Take some physics courses. Stay away from the red hat rallies. The fat orange oaf literally can't even drive a car. A golf cart was foreign to him and had to be driven by a caddy until he was 60 years old. I need to tap your brain on the whole "SAE ___ bellhousing pattern" thing I had heard about that before and got the impression that SAE has standardized bellhousing patterns over the years and you can some how get your hands on a spreadsheet of sorts. And that way you can cross reference things and be like "oh look, this skid steer diesel will pair up to a TH350, or C6..." or whatever. Maybe I have unrealistic thoughts, but it seems like you hinted at it a little in your video that maybe my previous thought might be closer to reality than a myth I'm holding on to.
@adampavick7007
@adampavick7007 6 лет назад
In the case of Deutz diesels, it's kind of confusing since they almost always came with a flywheel housing which has a circular SAE 3 or 4 bolt pattern on the output side. The holes tapped into the block are roughly the same diameter as SAE3, but the spacing is different and it's lopsided with bolt holes around the starter. Most medium duty transmissions would need both an SAE bellhousing and flywheel housing to bolt to a deutz. My Iveco trans is the only one I know of that bolts directly to a Deutz block with no flywheel housing required. Luckily, I was also able to get the matching flywheel and pressure plate that were originally used with my trans.

You probably could reduce drag a lot by using a pipe to draw air from the very front of the grill and same for the air intake, then shutting the rest of the grill.

Friend, excuse me. What is the maximum speed that the vehicle reaches with the 3-cylinder engine? thanks

Depends on rear gear. Stock 88 era 5 spd might hit 80-85 with 4.10s. swap in a set of 3.45s from the 2wd 3spd auto and should get about the same from an engine that redlines around 3500. This setup (looks like 4wd, most likely 4.10s) might hit 55. Don't know if it's stock trans or not, but a turbo and a gear vendors would make it capable of 100+

looks good, just wondering what you did for cabin heat,did you put the engine oil through the heater core?can you maintain 65mph?

I tried oil through the heater core as well as an electric heater. Neither worked. Finally got a Chinese knockoff of an Eberspacher diesel-fired heater. Puts out a lot of heat, but the combustion chamber builds up with soot pretty quick. I also use it as an intake heater when it's outside below zero. 65 is top speed with 2500 rpm governor, but it has no problem holding that speed, even up steep hills.

Adam Pavick Try using Howe’s or Stanadyne for saving injection system and burns cleaner. Also, Biobor JF kills algae and keeps filter healthy not black.
