Dev Diary #1: The Individual Experience 

Are we finally getting a good roller coaster game for this generation? Can't wait to see more :D

:D This looks like it'll be the true sequel for RCT3. The flow and animations of guests (and staff) is just spectacular (and I didn't even think that'd be part of what'd make me love the game). The game engine looks awesome too.

Some lovely animation shown off here! I wish Telltale Games would take their animation as seriously as these guys.

My customers are there for two things - getting trapped and drowning. If your game hasn't got that, then I'm sticking with Roller Coaster Tycoon 1. Toss the mascots into the ocean.

I'm kinda happy that you guys showed the characters that will populate the parks, rather than the pitfall of of going the uncanny valley route, you've decided to go the direction of full range of personality. If you show the same passion for the rest of the game as you have shown for this dev diary, then I am confident you'll have a winner on your hands. Also nice to see you are using fluid simulations for crowd flow.

The people look amazing! Really loving the focus on that. Can't wait to see more on rides and scenery. Keeping a close eye on this for sure!

The animation of the guests is incredible. I never cared about them that much in previous games but they look so full of life now and the way they move around now looks amazing. I'll need to see some building gameplay but this is looking to shape up into a preorder. :)

This is some really cool work on the animations! I hope the rest of the game turns out as good as that.

I'm loving that they have put more enthesis on the peeps, they did a good job with them in RCT3. I was impressed with how groups, couples and families interacted with each other and I'm glad that the peeps are a major focus in this game. The building and management was fun but sometimes I would take a step back and just watch the little people do there thing, look at their expressions and thoughts was entertaining. I'm glad you the team is taking that to another level. The crowds make the park feel alive. Time to upgrade that old PC for the first time, this is good motivation if any to give it a go. Keep up the good work, can't wait for lovingly crafted game.

This has incredible potential. Please continue to work hard on it and it will pay off in millions.

Explaining the tech and thought process behind crowd control makes such a lot of sense for this game. Having an area in the park that is overcrowded feeds into the gameplay - strongly encouraging the player to create a crowd friendly environment without having too much space at the same time. Side note: I played Theme Park on the 3DO and Theme Park World on the PC years ago for many hours. I love those games and very much look forward to this one.

In RCT3 I would follow my custom Peep around the park a lot - It's interesting to see how their priorities change from "I need the toilet" to "where's my sister gone" and then "OMG balloon shop!"

This is exactly the kind of stuff that could go completely over a player's head playing the finished game. A busier art style, a different pathing system, or a less caricatured animation and it could well all look like a busy mess. It'll be trickier to communicate things like guests being thirsty, or lost, but maybe I'll never have to go to the 'all guests' panel in this game to figure this stuff out!

They're making the game they'd like to play, excitement and joy, you can see it in their eyes. You guys are doing amazing job, hope everything go well and we'll get a great tycoon game after RCT2( 2002).

The realism of the people really wins me over; it's something roller coaster games lack, I think. When you can make a park and people react as if they're genuinely enjoying themselves is awesome.

I LOVE the idea of peeps interacting with eachother, passing through, forming lines. The fluid simulation adds so much to immersion.

This game looks really cool and your attention to detail, is shocking. The stylizing of the guest's body language works well with your cartoonist art style as well. Hope it's as good as RCT 3!

I hope as much work as they're putting into crowd management they also put into the actual gameplay i.e. (rides, scenery, shops, park management, etc) Beside that the game looks amazing, and I am definitely looking forward to purchasing and playing this game.

wow! very impressed indeed. I know we shouldn't keep comparing RCTW with PC but already I can tell that PC is gunna have a lot more personality to it. The individual guest animations are just so damn heart warming. Can't wait for Part 2!

Been watching Frontier ever since their debut with The Midland Bank and Theme Park. Loved it. Kept my Pentium warm for quite some time. The detail the crew put into the games is always fantastic... and you can tell the games heart often comes from the detail Im really looking forward to this new edition to the idea / franchise (when is EA?).

Work put into avatars and animation looks awesome. Keep them coming!

You should definently make it so you can walk around in your park as a guest. That would be so awesome and i think it would be alot more interesting to see it from a guests pov. This game looks very promising!

Love it already - and it actually makes me wonder if Frontier will be using the same system for crowds in the FPS mode of Elite: Dangerous (to populate space stations, cities and other places) as well later on...

I love the fact that you concentrate on creating a good AI, before you just add other stuff. A lot of people just want excellent graphic and forget that it doesn't matter if you build one of the best rollercoasters when the crowd in your park is too dumb to find it, ride it and enjoy it... That's one of the reasons I'm really looking forward to play this game instead of rollercoaster tycoon world!

Between this RCTW and Parkitect, I'm in video game heaven this year.

I don't know why but I love the crowd art style.

This is why I love the level of graphical processing / fidelity that's now possible. As must as I liked Theme Park World (aka Sim Theme Park), the visitors were just low res sprites. But now, 16 years later, we can have hundreds of visitors rendered as fully 3D models with colourful expressions and lively mannerisms.

So amazing! As a big fan of RCT3, I am looking forward to Planet Coaster much more than RCTW. =)

For every SimCity there is a Cities: Skylines and for every RollerCoaster Tycoon World there is a Planet Coaster. Can't wait to play this game.
