53:56 - 54:24 Ajahn your point about being welcoming towards ghosts is extremely refreshing! Having grown up in the West, I of course have been afraid of ghists, but with your insight I will try to be less afraid. Sadhu sadhu sadhu!

a friendly piece of advice from one devoted buddhist to another... all beings are the owners of their actions, and they will inherit their results - so just let them get on with it, theyre missing a real blessing by not even giving it the time of day. my bet is they dont even listen and just give it a thumbs down :)

Im still trying to figure out where does conciousness come from? Is it some kind of energy? and how to become deva?
@Maarten8867
@Maarten8867 2 года назад
It comes from volition, look up dependent origination.

To become a deva u first should have a desire to be born in one of the 6 heavens then u shud do dana a lot (generosity) give food, clothing shelter to monks... Giving to the sangha community of monks & nuns is the way to gain the highest merits.... The buddha said a person who gives dana in next life has long life, beauty, happiness , retinue(friends & attendants) & power.... The more u give the more those 5 factors increases.... & also protect sila (5 precepts)...

One of the questions I've considered while studying very mildly Buddhism was the ideas of devas. Maybe you have spoken about it in the dhamma talk, but I'd like to pose this question: if there is no supreme creator in Buddhism, how could there be divine beings, gods, etc.? One may be called to say, “well, how could there be anything without a supreme creator?” As in, how could the world exist without a creator? Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that the universe was truly created from nothing. If the argument is that the Big Bang happened, what then was the void of the universe that is ether/space; a part of creation; a lack there of? I believe there must be something that started it, and without much knowledge of Buddhism, I consider the possibility that there is somehow a creator. Now, I will finish the video and hopefully see the question posed with an answer. Sorry for the long comment.

From my understanding it's an not something you can understand from inference but from experience/wisdom. Expansions and contractions going on endlessly. We've been around forever due to ignorance and collectively we all create our worlds/universe with all our minds. I could be wrong but that's what I got from my studies.

Buddhism hold that existence is, that is there is no is not, so existence is infinite. As such there can exist different form of life depending on past kammas, action and their results. It is perfectly logical for the world to be infinite per-accident, meaning no single beginning is necessary. However per se I believe there must be what we call God, since it cannot be infinite, even the Buddhist affirm this. It is for this reason certain schools of Mahayana and Tantric Buddhism do believe in a Supreme Being/Deity (primordial Buddha, dharmakaya) which we are all emanations of. Shingon Buddhism is the most obvious example where the primordial Buddha, Dainichi is the personification of the dharmakaya, the life-energy of the universe and the source of all the Buddhas.

The Buddha after reaching enlightenment surveyed his past life. He went though 91 eons of past lives.. each eon about 14.2 billion years before coming to the conclusion that there is no creator. Time and space itself is infinite. If there is a creator that created the world (event x), there must always be x-1... towards infinity. As this is the law of karma, nothing happens without a cause. Regardless, whether or not there is a Creator doesn't help your spiritual practice. See Buddha's simile of the poisoned arrow. Sadhu.

Suppose there is a Creator God. Can the God purify your mind? Can God remove your hatred, anger, delusion and ill will? If He can, why didn't he do it already? Why He didn't just remove everyone's defilement and make Earth a heaven already ? In fact.. why did he created us with such defilement? It is better to practice. Observe the mind. Remove the defilements yourself. Sadhu.

Invoking a Creator doesn’t solve anything as what created the Creator? And if you assume some fundamental like the Creator is immanent and uncreated well you can apply that same logic to the universe.

I have a question, say once one becomes enlightened what do you do then? Is that it, do you or can you start the whole cycle again? If everything is impermanent does that include enlightened beings also?
@knowchrome

May i answer. Once you becomes enlightened one. You still can help the others to reach your level (or higher) or live yourself alone in good routine until your live is naturally over. And if you really understand it, you will avoid everything that makes you goes to the cycle again. Everything is impermanent. Yes. but there is no cause you to rebirth again. Like without Oxygen, high temperature and flamable fuel. We can't start any fire or make any smoke. ps. Not my own experience. I just read and try to understand it.

my friend. enlightenment is just knowing there is NO self...once you find that out, you're then the enlightened one.. once enlighten, then proceed to Arhat.

Everything in the conditioned world is subject to impermanence. Enlightenment means going beyond the realm of conditionality. So you won't come back. Because you are no longer interested in conditioned world. Not even to come back and do charity and help others to be enlightened. An enlightened being (arahant) understands the danger of existence, and cease to exist.

Deva is orginaly sanskrit -prakrit word .there are many devas and brahmas in hinduism .and devas are also found in jainism .concept of devas does not exist in early buddhism .buddhists adopted deva and brahma concept from vedic brahmanism (vedic form of hindu religion.) and jainism (shraman form.of hindu dharma ) in 90 BCE

In hindu texts formless brahman is higher than all devas ,asuras ,humans ,animals and helleish beings .hindus belive some devas like shiva ,vishnu ,brahma ,mahadevi (mother goddess ) are manifestions of that formless genderless brahman

49:15 - I disagree. It is possible to converse with the Creator God. He happens to be very busy Creating and doesn’t have much to say (ie. he will direct you to his secretary) BUT - it is possible. Otherwise, I really like this bhikkhu.

This is true, but he only believes himself to be the creator, because he was here first, during this big bang. He assumes he created us because he wished for company, and then all the other beings were born. The truth is that he was also born, and will also die, just like us.
