Discover powerful lessons from Indian Mythology in this video with renowned author Devdutt Pattanaik. Learn about the wisdom and teachings that can benefit everyone, regardless of background or beliefs.
Devdutt Pattanaik is an Indian author known for his writings on the relevance of mythology in modern times, especially in areas of management, governance, and leadership. He has authored over 50 books and 1000 columns, with bestsellers like My Gita, Jaya, and Business Sutra.
Some of the highlights from the conversation are:
✅The Problem of Ambition over Contentment
Devdutt criticizes modern society's obsession with ambition and relentless pursuit of more, especially in the business world, at the expense of cultivating contentment - leading to unhappiness. "The misconception is that the world of business prizes young, aggressive, ambitious STEM professionals over finding contentment."
✅Using Mythology to Gain Perspective
He frequently cites Hindu and Buddhist mythology as offering an alternate, wiser viewpoint lacking in current discourse. He sees the stories and ideas in mythology as a way to recalibrate humanity's limited modern perspective on ambition versus contentment.
✅The Concepts of Karma and Dharma
Devdutt explains the Indian spiritual principles of karma (consequences of actions) and dharma (compassionately enabling others) as guides for how to live and lead a more balanced, content life. "Dharma is feeding others by first being content myself, which requires rationalizing my ambition."

9:50 If you are lower on Maslow's hierarchy of needs, it's ambition. If you are higher, it's greed.

If anyone wants to read Indian history then go to US department of defense website, Mythology means myth , If any one not interested in literature then start visiting civilizational site's and ancient temples because my ancestors are carved everything on temples. Bharat is an ancient civilization

for animals compassion comes by birth naturally, but for humans we inculcate compassion by way of practice.

30:28 "western model, one rule for everyone without looking at the context" Referring to "the west" as single homogenous entity and saying things like the west has one rule for everyone sounds like oversimplification
@TheMalllu
@TheMalllu 2 дня назад
i think it actually is. infact so called clarity, definitiveness,achivement has been made the golas for everyone. and thats kind of simplification

First of all, stop calling India aka Bharat's history a mythology or a myth. Indians are Hindus and will always remain so. India/ Bharat is the most ancient civilizations on earth which originated human civilization and knowledge and consciousness. Stop disrespecting it.

This guy has no concept of truth when he talks about the oldest religion on the planet l! If you are just hungry for such deception and good English - then the standards of seeking has stopped to a worse degree! If you want truth, you need to bring in a practicing monk to expound on this Vedic culture! Not a charlatans like Devdutt who grazes on books as a cow does in a grass field, but never touches or tastes the roots! This guy is a great example of English fluency and knowledge deceptivity!

World just need to adopt their own indegenous polytheistic world view, not following A levantine-Arabic Foreign god like Yaweh,Allah,Jesus etc who came to you as attche with Monotheist Colonization, earlier Colonization was Imperialism which does not impose A religion on the conquesred people, and polytheists are always great at Diversity by virtue of Various Gods' worship, not Monotheists.
