Is there a specific pathway to become an arborist consultant? I’m currently pursuing my arb level 4 qualifications in New Zealand( advance climbing and basic rigging). Will a degree in environmental science help to become a consulting arborist? I’ve looked around and asked a bunch but everyone has different answers. It would be really helpful if you could shed some light on it. Thank you
Hi Rajiv, there are a few different routes to becoming a consulting arborist. I will touch on ways for the U.S. but I am not familiar with New Zealand standards. Arborists get certified through the ISA after passing a test. To apply for the certification test, you either need to have a background in the field for a couple years or education in urban forestry or a related field. These are generalizations and you can find more details on the ISA website. So in short, you don't need to get a degree to be a consulting arborist. A lot have gained their knowledge by working in the field over the years. A lot will start as climbers and then transition to consulting after learning some insect and disease pests. Hope that helps!
@@RainbowTreeScience thanks heaps It should be the same around here as well. But I’ll look into ISA Qualifications. That saves a lot of time tbh. Thank you so much
