Players who want something you don't want to give them will whine no matter how many updates you put out. They'll forget all about the things you've done and focus on the things you haven't in order to justify their whining.
I would MUCH rather they stop wasting time now & just work to release the damn thing! Its been 4 years to make another VR experience that like 99.99% of VR games is NOTHING more than a "Tech Demo"! Seriously, 4 damn years for a demo?? If they made a full game it would no joke take at LEAST 20 years! wow. All they have to do is release early access so they can get funding & staff & it would be 100 times faster & easier, but sadly they dont really care.
Putting all that stuff in the basket and toting it around without it like "janking" all over the place was... super friggin impressive to me. Like that's nuts.
When he pushed the button at 5:22 with the basket... Stuff like that is so crazy to see, the level of accuracy and realism in the physics is insane, stuff just works like it would in *real life* and that's pretty mindblowing.
To me, carrying a whole bunch of physics items inside another physics item was the coolest part. I'm so used to everything spazzing out the moment you put them into a container.
@SharkTank nice job pointing out smthn from 3 years ago off the other guy and also comments on everyone elses comments about shit that makes no sense u cancerous lesbian
Oh my God. I am absolutely giddy watching that basket of things working how it should intuitively. I can’t begin to express how happy it makes me to see something like that just... work. Yes!!
Whenever Brandon talks about these projects, he always sounds so passionate and genuine, like there’s a story he wants to tell. I’m always so excited when he says stuff like “Oh that persons working on the sewer level.”
2019 and tech companies are still NOT using version control!?!?!? It's literally the best thing that's ever happened to software development. So many benefits
This work is so important for vr as a whole. Thank you and your team for all your efforts, the community at large adores these interactions your making.
I've honestly stopped being surprised by the number of things developers don't do that would make their lives immensely easier. The entire software industry is sort of a clown college.
As a solo developer, I can confirm that source control adds huge peace of mind, especially with an off-site repository. It has also saved me on a few occasions too. For example, I found that a bug in my game was actually caused because of memory corruption, but I had no idea what was causing it. Thankfully, my source control software allowed me to go back in time, and try different builds until I found the one where the bug started to occur (it had been undetected for months). Once I found out when the problem was introduced, I could see what code had been added to the game. In this case, source control had changed the surface area of my problem, from the entire solution, down to a few lines of code. Personally I use GitLab + GitKraken. But there are many other completely valid options depending on your own personal preferences.
@@stonium69 Yes, especially if you combine git bisect with automated testing. I work on embedded software, so testing involves a build step, flashing a device, copying testing software to the device and then running tests. I had been chasing this bug that appeared (at least) months ago, but was not able to make any progress. After some time I decided "screw it", and scripted everything. With a simple Python script I could bisect, build, flash the build, copy the test tools, log into the device using "expect", run the tests, get feedback and repeat the process. Since the build took close to an hour to complete, it still took the whole weekend. But on Monday morning I had the exact commit checked out that introduced the issue. Fixing it was another matter, but hey... Can't win em all, right? :)
Man this is all so awesome. With this many assets and them being so interactive there absolutely must be a map editor. It would really become like VR Garrys mod
I really like realism into games, espically when it's VR! Excellent Job i'll take the whole stock. I was on the edge of my seat, jaws widened just seeing you using the trashcan to push the button.
5:23 that. that got me more excited than anything else in the video. that felt more real than anything else for me. its such an awesome little touch that doesnt HAVE to be there but it is. and that level of dedication to me is incredibly impressive
It makes me so happy seeing you being really excited about what you're working on and how everything works, I cant wait to play the finished project. Keep up the great work
Just want to say, Brandon. I first saw you making cool videos me and my friends loved to making great looking video games. You are doing fantastic work for yourself and I'm amazed how far you've come. Can't wait for Boneworks!!!
If you gave me this at it's current state, and told me it is a finished product. I would not respond; purely because i would not have to time, as i would be the first person to set about 10,000 hours into Boneworks. In all seriousness, this game looks amazing. You and your team keep setting the narrative for all future Vr games to come. I personally am a fan of physics in games the more i can manipulate/interact with the environment more fun I have. And i believe i am not alone in my taste either, that said i hope you guys get the lime light for this game. Best Wishes, Just another Gamer
I'm a Systems Engineer about to graduate in December this year and omg Plastic seems fricken GENIUS. I was lucky enough to get a project management course in while I have been finishing up courses so I got some experience with Microsoft Project in that course and another full year Senior Design course. However, Plastic would have made so many of our development periods phenomenally better. I'm extremely impressed and I'm going to go learn how to learn this right now. I love this thing so much, I'm excited to show some of my fellow engineer friends who basically strive for organizing their stuff (I'm the least organized out of all of them surprisingly).
Nice to meet the guys behind the scene! Spencer seems like hes on top of getting this game made for us! Thanks to the whole team for the dedication and hard work.
It is so refreshing to see a game dev team that is clearly passionate about their project. It seems like ya'll are trying to inject fun into every nook and cranny of this game. You're doing great work Brandon.
The way you can just push that button with the basket at 5:24 just shows how dedicated you guys are to making this completely immersive. It's incredible.
I know whole companies in which their dev department (not game dev, just enterprise stuff) where they dont us version control. Its quite something lmao
@@madr1x this, in your interview ask about version control. If you hear something as terrible as "we just email eachother the new code" (a real thing btw), RUN.
wow, this game is going to be seriously awesome. just watching someone carry a stash of weapons in a trash can, with the fingers realistically gripping/ curled around the holes in the sides, then pushing whole thing against a button to open a door, items accurately shuffling around inside. physics based everything. such a simple thing but it is seriously impressive. definitely getting this game, cant wait!. also some very interested game dev insights there, thanks :-)
Seeing this made me really excited for a VR survival game. Imagine starting the game only being able to carry with you can hold in your hands and then you found a basket like this. When you gather resources having to carry a large basket would make you super vulnerable, and I could see that really driving a cooperative survival game.
Nice! Glad they're doing this for gaming design now. We already have this in architecture and construction with Revit software working with a central file. Sounds exactly the same! :)
Thought this was a small boneworks video but nah just a casually sponsored video:(Joking tho, this video makes me so happy and excited at the same time)
fuark these guys remind me of the old days. I remember being a kid and watching the documentary that came with the Halo 2 special edition and realising that Bungie, especially during CE, was just a bunch of nerds doing what they loved. You don't get that vibe seeing footage of modern game studios, but this is it right here. That alone tells me this game will be pretty sick.
Oh yes. Version control. Something that (as someone who went to college for software development) I've noticed being brought up many times as something you should know how to use (in the case of software, it's mainly Git, Github, or some other similar thing). I remember setting it up (either I did it or a group member did) for group projects in school, and it was very helpful.
Amazing job Brandon and everyone at SL0. I've been following you since freddiew cereal killer or so and it's very nice to see you following your dreams. Just my opinion
@SharkTank I'm genuinely confused as to why you elected to comment that. I don't think you did it to be an asshole, because it's a pretty shit insult, lacking in any real thought or creativity and you only made a fool out of yourself in the process. It's like you simply lack the cognitive ability to just take an L and communicate normally, so you just blurted that out because you thought it was funny. If you think it's funny then that's alright, good for you. I just kind of hope you eventually grow up a little.
Work in embedded hardware and it would be a disaster without version control. The rest of my week will involve walking things back to find where something broke
