Hanif Khan should know that Sindh had everything before Partition. Unfortunately Partition and illegal exchange of population brought the curse of religion and terrorism in Karachi.
That seems like a gross simplification. Firstly, I'm not sure who you classify as illegal population exchange here, but if its the muhajirs, then no they weren't illegal, they were literally invited by Pakistan to relocate from India, and if you're talking about Afghans, then they had valid justification under their refugee status to relocate here. Lastly, Sindh didn't have "everything". The development of Karachi into a major metropolitan doesn't happen without the large population influx which creates the largest urban market of the country, nor does it happen without the capital injection that the elites who migrated to Karachi, such as the memon class brought.
listening to start 10 mins I would like to disagree that only internet will solve the issue for freelancers there needs to be establishment of other required infrastructure also like school, hospital, restaurant and shopping facilities. Freelancers are mostly confined to the cities due to the education for their children. Recognizing the pivotal role of primary education, it's evident that good schools play an indispensable role in shaping the foundational years of a student's journey. While online education offers certain advantages, it falls short in providing the comprehensive and immersive learning experiences essential for young minds. Standardized, closely monitored, and continually improved primary education is imperative.
About commuting, steel mill has really good system, people commute to steel mill daily from Badin , Thatta and other areas, this should be expanded to general public. Karachi cant grow if surrounding areas are poor, because as soon as economic activity increases more people will move in from there, and bruden already dilapilated infrastructure of the city, people moving in will earn and spend in Karachi only, while most of the blue collar workers would live in katchi abadi tiny squalers, leaving their spacious home in their hometowns, so their living standard actually goes down, and demand of services in periphary also doesnt increases. If theres a way to commute, they would improve their lifestyle, increase the economic activity in their area, increase services demand there, which would introduce more job, all the while would not burden Karachis general infrastructure.
Denmark and Brazil generate electricity and gas from dustbins and plastic why Govs are not try this in Karachi there too much kachara there.. Karachi must be an independent Metropolis with have power in its resources with Capital of Sindh , other parts of Province also have same powers
Good podcast on Karachi's issues........ I think following are main issues 1) though the population is very high.......very high number of kids are out of schools. 2) Just check the number of shunted kids in Karachi...and this is future of the city 3) Law and order.........this is a major issue. No fool will invest in the city if law and order is not fixed. Investors should feel safe but it is exactly opposite. 4) Lack of infra.......very sad situation.
@2107Slash Well the state of affairs is not good so that is correct. But such people forget that upto 2006 the per capita GDP of India was lower than Pakistan. Also now Indian states like UP and Bihar the per capita is lower than Pakistan. These states have huuuge populations combined even exceeding Pakistan. But there such people ( talking of these BJP IT cell types, not all) somehow don't feel SAD, as it's their very OWN government. Therein lies their hypocrisie

If proper facilities like health, education , transport, water are improved in rural areas. Unfortunately unplanned immigration has always opposed it thinking that it will help the indigenous Sindhis. Power in Sindh has always been with MQM/Jamait Islami type people in Sindh.
You are comparing Manhattan. You can also compare Lahore as people are going to Lahore from all over Punjab and companies are giving jobs to them. Still, unfortunately in Karachi, people are coming from nearby cities, and anything shown in their CV the out-of-city work is rejected.

Karachis infrastructure got big boost during that time. Be it Naimatullahs 4 years or mustafa kamals tenure. Secondly mustafa kamal under musharraf had ONLY 3 YEARS!! mustafa kamal got elected in 2005, and in 2008 Musharraf left office. It wasnt 10 years. Get your facts right before blabering
Secondly for major infrastructure projects, soveriegn gaurantee of provincial and federal govt is required. No international body funds local govt directly. Secondly all around the world, metro projects are done by federal govts, be it paris in france, berlin/hamburg/munich/stuttgart in germany, london/manchester in UK or sydney/melbourne in australia, all are funded by federal govts.

My suggestion is enforce the late PM , Liquat Ali Khan industrial policy that will develop the entire country , according to Liquat industrial policy the Industry will only installed where its raw material grow / Available , and the industry will be bound to open schools and colleges in the vicinity in industrial zones and bear all development labilities , and as a compensation the industry will get tax break , and around the industrial area the housing scheme will be finance by the house building finance corporation . This policy will help to control the population migration to urban areas from ruler areas , and will help in human resource skill development . population is not a problem to development their skills in time is the problem .
I am a bit disappointed by Shehzad in this episode, everytime Javed sb would respond to a question by highlighting a valid concern, Shehzad would move back to hypotheical what ifs. When he mentioned budget allocation and owning karachi, and idea of karachi being treated more like a periphery than any other major city, Shehzad pulled the conversation back to "But what if we had an abundant budget" and "what about balochistan". I was surprised to see the lack of nuance in understanding his points. You can acknowledge the concerns of budget allocation and census underepresentation of Karachi without diminishing the concerns of the Baloch or pashtun. Moreover, its hilarious when he pushes Javed sb and other local politicians to invest in projects such as a public transit and satellite towns, while side stepping the budget conversation.
