Yes, I did put two Devialet Phantom Gold's on my shelfs and called it a day. Yes, my expectations where high. Yes, I had a similar reaction unboxing them. Yes, my mind was blown (what's going on here?!) the first time I cranked up the volume (including the silly shock & aw faces). Yes, it doesn't make any sense to me getting this volume and high fidelity from such small sized speakers. Yes, I needed them in my life. Yes, I think they are beautiful and just love to stare at them (I have them on the optional Devialet Treepods, which enhances their striking looks even more). Yes, I don't regret purchasing them although they set me back five times my monthly rent. Yes, I can't wait to move to a bigger house without neighbours, because they're mad and my current living room is not Rock Concert size. The Gold Phantom is designed as a wireless speaker, of course, and has both Bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity. But there is also a digital optical socket for legacy equipment, and an ethernet connection for those who value signal stability over decorative minimalism. Setting the whole thing up wasn't effortless and didn't go too smoothly. First time the bluetooth connection was poor. Using the needed Spark app to control my Phantom set-up with two Gold's and the Dialogue box needed some trial and error to get used to. I resetted the Dialogue and Phantoms and after my second try it all worked perfectly fine. Working with the Spark app has its ups and downs, but in general I'm quite content with it. Although some crucial UX problems should definitely be fixed in the future. I use Tidal and Qobuz to stream lossless mp3's (FLAC), it really doesn't make any sense to listen to normal mp3's on let's say Spotify. Music sounds best on the Phantom Gold's when listening to vinyl, or CD's. Obviously. The pair of them delivered surprising clarity and coherence across the audioband, astoundingly deep and controlled bass, reference-class sound staging and imaging, and extremely high output. This makes a pair of Gold Phantoms with the Dialog a compelling option not only for those who want something that sounds great and is small and rich in features, but also for the audiophile who cares only about sound quality. And when I say “sounds great,” I don’t mean “for the money” or “for a small speaker” -- the Gold Phantom sounds great, period. I only turned them up to 100 (max volume) for a minute and my ears where buzzing right after that. The Phantom Gold is capable of peak volume levels comparable to those of a modest aircraft. Which, in my domestic situation, ought to be ample. They shouldn't allow people to buy speakers for their living room that go this loud! Are they insane? It's not healthy. Nor responsible. I never ever had them louder than 60 ever since. Usually between volume level 30 and 40 is most pleasing to the ears. It does kind of feel like driving a Lamborghini at 100 Km per hour while it could go 300Km per hour easily. Hooked up my Smart TV with the Dialogue box with an optical cable. Watching movies with the sound coming from two Phantom Gold's beats any Soundbar on the market. Are you kidding me? It's not Dolby Digital (ATMOS), but what's going on here? The incredible bass just vibrates the whole building and made things fall from my walls (there's a Night Mode setting in the Spark app, which makes the sonic earthquake more bearable). Finally I can hear dialogues clearly and the overall soundstage is impressively wide. I can imagine adding three more Gold's would get you IMAX sound in your living room, but I'll take the sound I get from 'just' two Phantom Gold's any day. Accompanying the brick-cracking bass is a hectic flurry of movement from the side-firing woofers, the sort of alarmingly visual driver extension that in any other circumstances would have us leaping forwards to reduce the volume and prevent possibly terminal damage. It’s a bit of visual theatre you simply don’t get with any other product. Pro's: - Tremendously fulsome sound. - Small size, very practical on many levels (26cm tall and 25cm wide, 11.4 kg). - Future proof because of Devialet’s Analogue Digital Hybrid (ADH) technology. It combines Class A and Class D amplification in an effort to maximise each technology’s inherent benefits while minimising its equally inherent shortcomings (free upgrades for life, so never having to change hardware anymore!). - Visually, the Devialet is like no other device outside the Phantom range. - Smart inside, striking outside. I love the design of the Phantom Gold's, they just look gorgeous. Cons: - You want a minimum of two Phantoms. - You need the Dialogue box (which sets up its own wifi network that is exclusively for the Phantoms without interference of other wifi using devices). - You want the Phantoms on Treepods or Stands for optimal sound. - All together it costed me 5200 Euro (which is a lot of money, but almost a steal for what I've got sitting at my home right now)
Hendrawanto van der Uilskuiken Dude you are a true legend. This review helped me so much more than all the ones I've been reading online ! You convinced me to finally go get me one. I would actually use them to listen music in a pretty small room. Is it worth the extra 2600€ to get me a 2nd pair or is 1 sufficent? Thanks in advance.
Arnaud! One is probably the best 'bluetooth' speaker you can get your hands on and will sound impressive. But pairing up two of them is taking it to a next level. A whole other next level! You really need that stereo sound to experience the full capacity of the Phantom Gold. As I said, it's a lot of money but almost a steal for what you're getting.
Hi mate. Excellent review. How is your experience with the speakers now 11 no this after your review? I'm thinking of buying the exact setup as you, but am only worried about durability. If they break after the warranty expires, they cannot be opened and fixed. Are you worried at all about how long they will last? Also, any sound delay when watching movies or playing ps4/Xbox games?
We can’t tell how good they are because first your microphone is limiting the sound quality, then RU-vid, then the phone I’m playing it through, and then my headphones. I’ll get one of these and then try lol
All RU-vid video’s of Devialet products does is make them look good, you have to experience them right in front of you to know. After purchasing the lower end 1200W model when it was available I can say with confidence the 4500W model is worth it.
Absolutely. You can't make power out of nothing. 120 volts peak x 15 Amp circuit = 1800 Watts Peak (120volts x .707) = 84.84 Volts continuous x 15 Amps = 1272 Watts RMS Does this connect to a dual phase circuit? lol Maybe because they are extremely sensitive at 108dB they are the equivalent of a typical speaker under 4500 watts? Kind of like the make LED grow light "equivalents". It is equivalent to a 1000 Watt HPS but only uses 300 Watts. Could somebody explain the trickery?
@@turtlegaming2098 It's physically impossible. The output MOSFETs inside are standard to220 types with barely any heatsink. Even with the most efficient topology they'd have to dissipate 300-400 watts of pure heat, impossible. Additionally, speaker drivers are quite inefficient in turning electricity into sound (in the one digit percentage range), especially if they have heavy plastic cones and are heavily equalized to play in an undersized enclosure like that. At the end of the day, most of the energy would be transformed into heat that has nowhere to go in that sealed box. Remember, 3-4kW are power ratings things like stoves have, so this thing would be as hot as an oven inside.
@@exoticg9 yes two different things. RMS would mean something, peak means not a damn thing :). There is no standard for peak power, so you could just guess and still be correct about it.
Have a pair of silvers, they are as awesome as adverstised. My only concern is the high wattage (no rms) promotion. The markting department is a little bit to agressive, real enthusiasts dont need no real rms values to be interested. Everybody who not listened to them yet, be aware, they are very clear and precise and you really need no subwoofer. My silvers are placed in my studio (300qm, 4m high roof) and they even deliver in this big space. The only place where they dont shine, in small rooms and to close positioning to the walls.
Actually taking both is better, coz you get stereo sounds. But gold sound quality way better then silver, also its 4500w. It's better you try them both and decide. Cheers
Yes it's true, you can connect 24 of them same time, you can even make your own hoke theater with these and no need any subwoofers at all. I've seen them as a home theater. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ No words 😇😇
@@DjXDEEP I just find out I g9t 2017 movie not get seen lol, but now I got other things on my to-by l8st first, so it don't be so soon. Would be ideal in a house with neighbour's on another hill XD. I will definitely buy 2 when I will. Reactor is also great to move or travel with I think, besides low noise and great bass tech it got also upscale tech, similar feeling I get from Sony upscale on the phone. For now vibration speaker and dockin dfine should do, as I upgraded my car audio too. Better audio tech definitely helps experience.
@@freehandz Then it is a super inefficient speaker because 1100w is an insane amount of power for a home speaker of that size. I don't believe for a second that thing can do 4500w peak even for a second. Until i see someone analyse all the components in the speaker, i do not believe it and it is just marketing bull.
If it was a real 4500 watts of power your building lights would dim on the bass notes and also everything on the walls and shelf would vibrate off the walls . I have a setup with 200 watts of real rms power per channel not this 5000 watt fake power pmpo . My system with 200 watts rms per channel with 4 channels will blow the pictures off these walls thats with just 800 real watts. Trust me 800 real watts will vibrate the sheetrock off the walls. If this thing were 4500 watts you would not be able to stand there.
Ja Lee actually, its only below 40% volume as i mentioned, coz even that much less mount of volume shake whole ceiling, you can hear it on the video, i even ask from salesmen what was that vibrating! You should visit to a place that you can find it and try your self, then you will realize what im talking abt. And it is a 4500 watts breast. Cheers!!!
I got crazy cause I really want this. real bad. but I have no money. that's why I'm crazy now. US$.3000 is to much for me. can make me and my fam live for a whole year. but I really really really want this speaker badddddllllyyy...
