Something nice again. I like classical music very much and know many composers and compositions, but with you I discovered many to me unknown compositions and composers. Thank you.
We cannot claim that Devienne is as unknown genius. Nevertheless, he was a solid composer, having a nice sense of melody, harmony, rhythm end overarching architecture. He wrote mainly for woodwinds (including clarinet and bassoon - a difficult task which he achieved perfectly, both in chamber and concerting music (many famous flute concertos). here, we have six interesting trios for flute, viola and cello. More than one century later, the French music got a masterwork for such a set from the pen of Albert Roussel. Listen to Devienne from time toi time, you will have some nice moments. ❤❤🧡💛💜💛🧡❤❤
Yes, I do believe your comment describes Devienne's music very well. I perfectly agree with your comment, especially regarding with other more or less famous composers. Maybe because I played some music for recorder by Devienne. Thank you
Another discovery, another gem to enrich our experiences. Music is made up of not only the mighty works but also these well crafted attractive pieces- in life we look upon great oceans, and mighty rivers and little springs together with rivulets and rapids. They react upon our senses in different ways, not better or worse, just different. So is the case here - for me at least. Thank you so much for this post.
I agree with the other commenters who described these pieces as "charming". I think "beguiling" is also apt. A delightful interlude. Thank you for introducing me to Maestro Devienne. I hope you can share more of his works with us in the future.
How gorgeous these are! Will have to look this one up. Mozart was great indeed but he seems to have overshadowed so many excellent composers in his day. (No RU-vid for these folks!) I'm so glad that you're bringing the lesser known greats out for a listen! I now look and listen for them.
There was a scene on Star Trek the next generation where Cpt. Picard was practicing his flute but was getting interrupted by his staff. The music he was listing to sound a lot like Devienne? I will try to confirm this!!! 🧐
