Shotgun tech is performed by cancelling the shotgun cooldown with the rapid-fire animation. The key is understanding that the shotgun is actually fired upon the release of LMB during tech.
I watched like 3 shotgun tech videos and none of them made sense in my head, but this video helped me so much and helped me actually figure it out. Shotgun teching is so simple but it never clicked until I watched this video. Great explanation and visuals to explain what is actually happening.
yes and no. shotgun tech is the highest DPS in the game, but shotgun isn't very strong until level 3-4 hand. shotgun also blasts gems away. gems disappear after 10 seconds and you need to collect them, so you can't just shotgun constantly. you don't really need shotgun tech until later into the game (like 300+), and even then its just something that helps, not really "necessary".
Well lets just say that its ill advised to daggerstream spiders, Squid-III, and leviathans and that its also ill advised to Scattertech Centis and Gigs when their bellies are unobstructed. Its situational. Like the other reply in this thread already stated, you wont have a strong usecase for scattertech prior to the Gig-trio wave of 300s. I dare say you should still use it on the spiders , squids, and Squid-III +CouchSkull up to that point since, as he also stated, the DPS is REALLY good. But perhapse he didnt go into exactly WHAT that DPS should be used on. Skull-III, Squid-III, Leviathan, Ghost Centi, Spider, and Orb all have something in common: A big fat target thats slow or hardly moves. And they are also tanky and need that DPS to take-out swiftly. They also have few if any gems to drop as a result, and so you wont need to worry about blasting a small handful away from you. Centis, gigs and smaller skulls + squids on the other hand make up a massive portion of your gem economy and you simply cant afford to blast those gems away from you. On top of that, they are low-HP for those gems, and so daggerstream is much more effecient at scraping them and then harvesting since blasts just leave gaps or is simply overkill on small targets. A good rule of.. hand... is to always consider time. The amount of time it takes you to kill something, the longer it will crowd your ever-diminishing space (the arena slowly shrinks) This game is about time, and there is always a faster way to do something. Blasting chunks off a gig will only cost you time as you have to go back and scrape remaining gems. If your time is spent doing this, more waves are crowding your arena. Conversely if you daggerstream Ghosts, leviathan, Skull-III, Squid-III, and Spider-II, you are not killing them fast enough, and now another wave is crowding your arena as a result. Yes. While tier 3 to tier 4 hand have a daggerstream that deals cluster-rape amount of daggers and damage to things. The likelihood of pushing past 700s with just dagger streaming would make you 1 of a single digit handfull of players. So yes. I would say using shot-techs is absolutely necessary for the vast majority of players who ARENT that small handful of mouse1-holders
To separate this part of my reply from my other wall of text. Shot Tech discovery is the only reason world record holders have pushed past 1000s in this game.
you shotgun first by tapping, then press again and hold, releasing when the hand comes forward far enough. when you perform shotgun tech, you're speeding up the shotgun cooldown with the rapid fire animation. you're only able to shotgun when your hand comes forward to the neutral position, and holding rapid fire makes the hand move forward faster. so i am doing rapid fire, it's just that I'm releasing it before the hand finishes returning to the rapid fire position, which the game interprets as a shotgun input.
