It amuses me that recounting the history of the Devil Gundam basically requires you to recite most of the plot of G Gundam. It really is a fascinating unit, and as unrealistic as the story is, stands as a solid warning against autonomous weapon systems capable of self replication. Even if it couldn't evolve and couldn't produce it's own autonomous forces, just it's self repair capacity would make it a threat to humanity.

This Gundam could be considered a spiritual counterpart of the Iron Giant: -DG is a unique machine created by humans. IG is one of many weapons created by an alien species -DG was a machine created for benevolent purposes who turned evil. IG was a weapon who become a pacifist -DG needs a pilot, who is controled by it. IG is an autonomous robot who created a bond of genuine friendship with a kid -DG was destroyed in an act of love. IG sacrificed itself as an act of love; plus, it survived

1 My favorite part is Devil Gundam fought against God Gundam within the Neo Japan corrupted Colony. 2 Here's a Tip, Do not let Char get a hold of that mobile fighter or he'll go truly mad.
