yea DMC is nothing like Dark Souls. Also really wanna say if the gameplay is the dude doing the review, he dont know how to play DMC at all. Only used Rebellion Combo A, got stuck in a boss attack loop, couldn't even dodge while using trickster. There is how many gameplay vids of DMC3 out there, and they chose to use this? Hell it may not even be the Switch Version in the gameplay, take note of the fact the arent playing Free Style mode. I know original style and weapons is available too, but why the hell would you play the Switch Version and NOT play Free Style mode? Its the main draw.
This video doesn't emphasize enough how big of a change the Style Changer is. It used to be PC exclusive via mod, DMC 4 and 5 have the mechanic built in, and finally DMC 3 has it officially too.
I've played a decent amount on Switch and I'm surprised there's no mention of the input lag. I felt it and others have mentioned that it's about 5-6 frames of it.
@@vintendioI don’t know what universe you’re living in but 6 frames is a lot of lag, especially when the HD collection only has 1 to 2 frames. There was a huge controversy around the time Street Fighter 5 came out due to it having 7 or 8 frames of lag, 6 frames doesn’t sound like a lot but you can certainly feel it.
A clarification in this updated version of the video: Switch does offer both of the first two Devil May Cry games on the eShop - though not as part of the HD Collection bundle as with other consoles versions. Totally our error here and apologies for the confusion!
You still didn't mention the original PC version having the Style Switcher mod that fixes all of its issues. Also, while the original PC version was really shit, you COULD run it in fullscreen out of the box and you DIDN'T have to move with the keyboard while playing with the controller (it came with a controller configuration utility that was installed in the game's directory). The original unmodded PC version of DMC3 was bad enough, no need to invent new woes for it.
Maybe there should also be a new version of your Smash Ultimate video where you repeatedly and falsely state that Hal developed the game, when they had nothing to do with the project. Yeah, it’s an older video and the article itself was mostly corrected, but that error still bugs me.
This game has nothing to do with dark souls, now collecting currency, the need to recognize patterns and somewhat challenging game immediately gets compared to dark souls just stop
@@tatsumaru12345 A hot take. 5 was great, the reboot was bad but the gameplay was fluid, if a little simple like the first game. I love 3 for the cutscenes alone, and having more complex gameplay along w/ the quick switch mode is the cherry on top.

Between the 2 player mode they added to this port and the ending of DMC5 I have a feeling that Capcom is planning on doing a co-op spin-off game at some point telling how Dante and Vergil escaped hell.
Most official game remasters and re-releases will never make use of AI texture reconstruction, likely due to legal licensing issues for any given method.
Dark Souls is the Bohemian Rhapsody/Another Brick in the wall and Citizen Kane of video games, you cant talk about any action game without mentioning dark souls even if the game has little to no relation to the soulsborne series, but yeah you kill monsters in both games and you have a health bar, with that logic mario 64 was also soulsborne game
They should've compared it to something that has somewhat similar gameplay, like the Ninja Gaiden games, then they could've had a side rant about how they want Ninja Gaiden on switch! Although I can kind of see where they were coming from with the whole "gothic" look being like dark souls.
@@TheyCallMeContra To be fair, it does have SOME aspects of Dark Souls. You can level up at divinity statues for example, which typically are located in front of checkpoints before the boss of a level. There are multiple weapons. It features Dante from the Dark Souls series.
2:17 Not really, the HD collecion ruined some of the original's effects by upscaling the textures, like Dante's hair, it looks more opaque in the HD collection vs the original that looks more natural with transparency. Both have their own ups and downs.
Pixel demon moon used to look amazing with all its fire effects and shadows, but they’re not present in the HD versions either, it really brings down the finale.
@@Comkill117 Correction: Actually, the original HD collection on the PS3/360 retain that amazing looking demon eye in Mission 20. The way it looks in the background during the cutscene still looks terrible, but it still looks like its PS2 version while you're fighting Vergil. For some reason, it got all messed up when they decided to upscale it even further for the PC and modern console ports.
after running through the game as dante and then unlocking vergil and playing through his mode ive gone back to dantes file to upgrade his abilities but ive got a crazy glitch where when you play any stage he just does a t-pose and none of the weapons work. then the game crashes. rip save file
always make backups saves for both dante and vergil.. the bug occurs if you play vergil and imediately go to freestyle dante (the game goes standard then freestyle and that bugs it out) to fix this problem after playing vergil restart the game if you plan going to dante.. the good thing is that the game takes like 2 seconds to launch so its fine
i had fun finding a way to fix the file, the completed missions is bugged as well, but i was able to go to chapter 14 and pick up the beowulf straight away which then allowed me to use the rebellion again alongside beowulf . then beat lady and got the kalina ann and now i can do the quick swapping because the rest of the guns arent unlocked. shame i gotta grind the styles tho, only trickster is maxed now for some reason.
@@Stublyme Yes, yes it is. You ever beat DMC on DMD or Hell and Hell, along with Dark Souls games NG+7? If you haven't done both, you can't compare them.
@@theworstcatholic7247 I grew up speedrunning dmc 1 and 3 on dmd. 5 is one of my all time favs. but lets be real here most people will just mash slash thru normal or hard mode and leave. A fresh start from a new save souls games are harder the first run in dmc imo. Then if you want challenge from souls you can do sl1 no armor and a stick to ng+7 thats harder then dmc3s dmd imo. sl1 at ng7 any souls is basically hell or hell at that point. dmc self imposed challenges dont work as well as souls games. but no restrictions dmc harder yee u right. end rant.
@@Stublyme You can't button mash DMC1, 3, 4 or 5. You'll get ass blasted. My 10 year old nephew has beaten over half the first dark souls, yet hasn't been able to beat Goliath yet. Dark Souls if we keep limitations out, is by far easier due to one simple fact(The way the games were meant to be played.). It's slower, every dodge and action you do in DMC is similar to DS but you need faster reflexes, not just that, DS is an RPG, you can make it far easier by just having a decent build which is very easy to do in DS1 and most souls games. You can't do that in DMC. Limitations you could also do Hell and Hell, SS Rank only, no upgrades or skills bought as well or used as well. Hell you could do that with no weapons at all and just royal guard which is already a tighter blocking system than DS's, hell it's got frames as tight as it's parry mechanic. It's much easier to counter an attack that will one shot you than in DMC, the attacks are slower, there are less enemies to begin with in DS that also have far wider tells. Let alone all the ways you can easily break a souls game with again, builds that are natural parts to the game. Hell magic has been broken in nearly every entry, you've also got co op multiplayer to help make things easier for folks. None of these options to make things easier on a souls run, first or not, are available to someone whose playing DMC.
Damn, you guys on the comments are extremely harsh, they are tech reviewers not game masters, their task Is to evaluate the tecnichals aspects of how these games are displayed, not played
same laziest ps2 port, but they say everything you want to hear,to sell it again and again, especially for the full price) after playing DMC5 here you find only nostalgy if you played it back then.
Lazy port? Did you not do your research? This is the only console port that has on-the-fly style switching, access to all weapons on hand and local co-op on Bloody Palace. Research isn't hard to do.
@@supersbbrawl4everbut i don't need any of this, its just bare minimum for asking full price again, especially when you can buy DMC1\2\3 on ps3 for 1\4 price of the DMC3. core game and visual are the same and that's shame, when you compare it with something like Shadow of the Colossus remake. it was lazy 8 years ago,now almost nothing has changed, except price. for me even new sets of trophies has more value than this changes.
@@BonJovy Fair enough about the visuals, but how can you not give a shit about the new features? And last time I checked, $20 ain't full price (a little much, sure) and the gameplay changes are major this time around. Honestly, I can't wrap my head around on why you don't care about being able to style switch on the fly like in 4 and 5. The mechanical changes are worth a lot more than the graphical changes for me.
Pre rendered cutscenes is the only way to see original ps2 graphics. HD is missing some effects like blur, dof, And the most important - Dante's hair. And the upscaled textures are awful. Especially the eye in m20.
If you have to go out of the game to access something then it doesn't count......That's the game's problem.....you shouldn't have to edit a file to change an in-game setting. smh
Again... The Devil May Cry Triple Pack is available in Japan for Switch bundling all 3 games into 1 neat package. Not sure why that comment needed to be removed originally.
This Port Is Amazing 🙌🏿If Only We Had a PS2 Mini With All The Best Games On It Running At 1080p 60fps 😮💨I’ve Never Played a DMC Game But I Do Have Every Switch Port 🤷🏿♂️
@@plasmaoctopus1728 Oh yeah I think that's what you have to do. It's been a while since I played it so I forgot about that lol. But yeah it's just a simple config file fix. Just type in the resolution on the correct lines.
I know I do. Highly unlikely it’ll happen though. 2 and 3 relied heavily on the PS2’s pressure sensitive buttons, which the PS4 and literally every console this generation is lacking. It’s why MGS4 was removed from PSNow when that service first started. Half of the actions in that game were made impossible by the lack of pressure sensitive buttons. The Xbox 360 ports had an altered control scheme which assigned the pressure-based actions to the analog stick buttons but it was REALLY rough. It worked but it was incredibly awkward.
Thomas Mcmullan Hey, like I said, the Xbox 360 port used a different control scheme to work around it so it’s clearly possible, so never say never! I just don’t think Konami want to put in the effort right now!
Keep the same port, but add good quality bloom, motion blur, depth of field, post-AA, and coloring to it and it would look great. I don't understand why most "remasters" don't hesitate to remove old effects and don't bother to replace them with higher quality modern versions to compensate.
Because remasters only change the assets. To have the features you want, they need to change or upgrade the engine. Which will make the game in to a remake.
@@linkin7357 if you're talking about PS4 SOTC, that really is a remake. it was completely rebuilt from the ground up with new elements across the board, no original art at all.
blitzcaster While that is a good point, a lot of this stuff is easily doable on PC with things like Reshade or similar plugins. Surely a company like Capcom have the resources to make something similar work natively in their remasters.
I've been playing this game since the ps2 era and bought the hd collection on ps3 The Switch version might be the best one because of the new features added to the gameplay
iNando you dummy PS2 original is the best version and will always be, watch the comparison video. The switch port is one of the worst versions, I mean GRAPHICALLY. Some of these features is not a surprise. You can mod the pc port lmao. How dumb people are these days, no wonder

@@theneedforspeeder9575 I like Bayonetta 2 (Bayonetta 1 is much more flawed in its design) well enough, but it really can't compete with the best Devil May Cry games.
@Fiklm Lmfao, fanboy. When Bayo 2 came out, DMC4 Dante was still universally considered to be the deepest character mechanically in the genre. Hell, even DMC3 Dante w/Style Switching wins. Bayonetta is stuck with dial-a-combos which doesn't make it as freeform as DMC3-5's and also has QTEs, which is a shit feature in the hack n slash genre. Sure, it has better platforming and traversal mechanics, but DMC is still the undisputed king in terms of combat mechanics.
Good review up until bringing up Dark Souls. Just... why? This game predates Demon's Souls for several years, and a full console generation. True that there's several games that draw inspiration from Dark Souls. This is not one of them. If you wanna say the game is hard, then say the game is hard. No need to draw a comparison with a game that's not even on the same genre, just because its popular.
the original pc port was so fucking lazy, just like resident evil 4's original pc port. and dont get me started on RE4's European Pc Port, its even worse than the NTSC port.
The Free Style mode is really great and changes the game a lot. It's more than just switching styles, you also get access to every weapon at once during gameplay, instead of just two of each type. I don't think there's any PC mod that lets you do that.
2:40 What? My PC copy runs just fine and in full screen mode. To be fair, this might be a windows 10 problem but when I played it back on XP and 7, it ran flawlessly.
heavily doubt the game could run flawlessly. without the bug fixes mod, my i5 6600k and 970 still cant run the game with music on and have a constant 60fps. you can give it a go and put a fps counter on to see how it actually runs. for mission 2 boss fight, the game could still drop to the low 40s in frame rate.
@@DongsMBM Like I said, this is probably a modern hardware/OS issue. The game ran perfect at 60fps back in the day. I'll maybe run some tests on my 3 different machines (XP/7/10) to see at what point does the game break.
Full Screen mode was available on day one for the PC release, however is was activated with Alt + Enter, but yeah, sure it wasn't mentioned anywhere in the settings.

Ingame resolution options should show 4K.” Yes, it doesn’t support 4K without a tiny bit of editing, but please DF... I swear, the channel just has a massive console bias. Always trying to downplay the PC versions, or when it’s obviously much better, exaggerate what it takes to play it. (Or in this case, completely miss that it’s the only 4K version.)
they also forget to mention about Style Switcher for PC, Starter Pack adding many graphical option and x360 controller support to original version and DDMK for HD collection :( Just mention, to let people know that there are easy workaround original limitation.

@Kuuhazan Not really. He is fully playable in BP, to the same extent of his abilities as Dante is. Compare it to using Dante during DG or Vergil in the Arkham fight with the very limited moveset. So yeah, it literally is coop multiplayer now and not just a gimmick with gimped functionality.

You really think they cut corners to get it to work at 60 fps on Switch just because they threw out a guess? Why did they cut corners on PC? Why did they cut corners on the other HD collections? Logic says it has nothing to do with making it run well...it's entirely cost saving & to get max profit.
It's crazy to think that this kind of gameplay was released on a PS2 back in 2005! DMC3 has been way ahead of its time! And that's why this game still holds up, even though the graphics are not the best. I'm also impressed by the character models in this game! Again, a PS2 title. In DMC 1 and 2, you can clearly see and feel the age of those games. They feel very outdated. DMC.3 not. It looks like Capcom pushed the PS2 with DMC 3 to the absolute limit!
