Ray tracing is a new thing just for the real time applications, like video games. But the technology is around for decades now. Also devs can easily control the max number of light bounces in the engine, so its not an issue.

Funny comment, but Quake2 RTX has a room of mirrors that have up to 2(?) bounces. And that RTX demo for that Soviet game has reflections in reflections. It's already a thing.

Get this. My monitor can do 120hz. BUT only through DisplayPort. Yeah sucks. Unable to do it through HDMI.

Well, depends on what 1080p 60hz you have, if it's the plasma like John Mentioned, it's probably a much better gaming time than a low end 4k LCD TV that has either high input lag with all the processing or bad hdr in game mode.

Hi l agree. 1080 60 RT locked in addition 2 the following modes as well! > 4k30 hi fidelity RT > 4k reconstructed or native 4k Super hi fidelity graphics mofe with superior fx & texture details etc. > hi performance 1440p (or higher) 120fps > 4k60fps locked. Ive consulted numerous top game devs who use a PS5 dev kit & all agree its a very powerful, versatile & superbly designed. XD 😁👊👍💪

@@awesomebobgaming Yes, hopefully developers will push the boundaries of what can be made with the new consoles and give us many settings to choose from! It’s just launch but already DMC5, Demon’s Souls, Spiderman, Dirt 5 and many more have many graphical options to choose from, so it’s not crazy to think that after launch there will be feedback of what players liked and found useful and with that they’ll build the future of this new gen. Exciting times!

@@saltychop9315 If you only have 1080p screen yes, but on a 4K display I wouldn't sacrifice the beautiful 4K textures, models and overall artwork in Spider-Man MM for some reflections. However I bet once Insomniac really gets the optimize stuff for Spider-Man 2 we will get both.

@@PSYCHOV3N0M If we are talking about Spider-Man MM the performance mode is dynamic 4K hovering around 1728p (probably higher during cutscenes and stuff but either way massive resolution boost over 1080p). Also even though ray-tracing is turned off in performance mode there are still other lighting improvements compared to PS4 and Pro version than just ray-tracing.

@@3style965 I can get that, I agree 1080p is all you need at the end of the day, for gaming and at my monitor size (24 inch) 4k is massive diminishing returns cause on that size you can barely tell the difference between 1080p and 4k unless you're right up in it's business.

@@BrianBaastrup Try 120hz monitor with game running 120fps or higher and you will understand. Higher refresh rate and fps makes controls more responsive. It feels a lot better than 30/60 FPS.

Its not just the reflections, it changes the lightening as well. The little sewer section looks rly cool with RT on.

For this game, no. DMC gameplay by nature will always prioritize performance above any aesthetic considerations. But Capcom will be using popular response on ray tracing implementation as feedback for future games, many which aren't nearly as fast-paced or focused on combat.

It depends on the impact it makes. Here yes, not worth it. But on Miles Morales I was quite impressed to the point I'd rather have it on with 30fps. Very subjective I guess.

@@HondaAccordPerformance I'm not sure those Hz output modes is anything to be happy about because most competent developers will do the opposite of what Capcom did in this game aka they'll lock the framerate and use dynamic resolutions if anything. This method that Capcom went with forced resolutions and dynamic framerate is terrible.

Seems like they can easily lock 4k30 with RT or 1080p60 with RT. They should have locked 60fps with dynamic 4k. And the 120fps with dynamic 1440p or something.

Shame it's not here as it really is a game changer. If it's not out by January it would have been really nice to be the few who got an Xbox then.

It should definitely be coming, it's a feature even 5-6 year old GPUs like GTX 9 and 10 series cards have.

If your TV supports HDMI 2.1 then VRR is in it, VRR is standard for HDMI 2.1

@@one_up907 yes but the TV and output device need to be able to read and output a VRR signal which right now the PS5 does not do as Digital Foundry discovered and Sony confirmed. Even if the TV can read a VRR signal and the PS5 has HDMI 2.1, not outputting VRR means it doesn't work for the TV. As such the PS5 as of right now does not have VRR.

Ray Tracing is pretty and a nice feature, but a performance mode should be needed on all games

Well VRR isn't something they can show in video, it's more something that only helps in person. RU-vid runs at the 60hz refresh rate so the improvements VRR has can't be seen through youtube. But yeah it does look necessary for next gen. Shame PS5 doesn't support VRR or Freesync at launch. Even worse though that Sony only intends to add HDMI's VRR and not Freesync which has LFC.

Def waiting to see the video on how this performs on the Series X now, John should be able to provide some insight into how the VRR performs with that OLED!!

@@lordbandi9804 the oled cx has major issues with vrr. It basically ruins the black levels and it seems a fix is not coming anytime soon. You can read about it on RU-vid or the inet.

@Kehaan You should be fine as far as 4k output goes because the CX has hdmi 2.1. Just make sure you’re using the hdmi cable that came with the ps5 and that you plug it straight into the tv unless your sound bar/receiver/hdmi switch also have 2.1 (highly unlikely at this point in time with 2.1 being so new)

Rt graphics + 120 is butter smooth on cx, I seriously have no what this guy talking about with judder.

Should be interesting now. We have vrr and we can toggle 120hz off if needed in ps5 system settings. I am getting it. I love dmc3 and 4 but I never played 5. I could get it on pc but ps5 special edition seems like a good complete package

@@HiCZoK While it is the most complete version, the puddles showing off the reflections are only in an early level. The rest of the game's stages are far more bland, making it more of an experimental addition than anything, and an excuse to tweak some visuals. The only thing special here is the legendary dark knight and turbo modes that DF neglected to show off, which PC has mods for as well.

Yeah, I just cleared my external SSD of most games, minus Modern Warfare, to wait and start GOT/Dark Souls Trilogy/Bloodbourne/Replay Days Gone, TLOU Remastered/2, and other backlog and replays with the boost modes.

Panny VT60 owner here as well. Plasma is dead. OLED has superior PQ. How far LED has come would be very interesting to see!

Certainly not dead - for native 1080p SDR content (that counts in my blu-ray movie collection), not regarding motion clarity (1080 lines of motion resolution) especially in 24p content. Not for game like DMC5 in "RT Performance mode". :). I´m not saying NO to technical progress - OLEDs are great (as I´ve stated few comments above - I´m even planing on purchasing 48'' one next year to use as good 4k HDR PC monitor, once the HDMI 2.1 issues are ironed out), but NO lover of great PQ should say NO to that which latest hi-end plasmas (VT50/60, ZT60, 9th gen. KUROs etc.) are still able to produce.

It can always be patched in, Sony is known for delaying certain things and patched in at certain dates

Also remember mark cerney said it has it. So just like how the ray tracing on xbox is delayed vrr must be delayed on ps5 too

After watching this it made me wonder if the Series X version would run better as they are showing about 45fps in 4k at different times on the PS5. I would think the 20 percent additional power of the Series X could bring this game back up to a locked 60 with Ray tracing enabled instead of disabled as was shown here. Also, the Ray Tracing power of the PS5 looks to be lack luster in 4k with dips into the 30s. Thankfully I happen to own a 1080p Pansonic plasma as was mentioned.

@@PedroCarlosdoss 3D audio is available for headsets lol what a noob, its not available for hometheatres or external speakers at launch. Auto HDR is a feature used to give HDR support for backwards compatible games, PS5 does support HDR10, all these "missing" features you've mentioned can be put forth into the system from updates by the end of this year, even the ps4 launch system wasnt what it is today. It develops over time.

This is a PS4 game that ran at 60fps. No excuse.

Or you could have just played on PC since launch for a (still) better experience. No excuse.

The only thing is that this should have been an option, but ANOTHER option should have been 4K 60 with no drops. Future-proof, but also present-proof. Best of both worlds.

You're talking about Capcom here. They've been running a clown show ever since the Clover breakup in 2006, and still haven't gotten their act together. DMC5 is no exception, which was already obvious since it's barely a full game already.

@@OilFreeFeathers Now wait a diddly minute. I think that they have been improving as of late, not amazing, but improving. Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 2 Remake and DMCV pointed to that in my opinion. None of these are excellent games, but they're much better than what they used to do.

At the end of the video they mention it can't and won't be a problem when they review it on Xbox because on Xbox you can select the output refresh rate on the console... In other words: this is the sort of thing that should probably not be left up to developers, these days. Hopefully, Sony will add such an option sooner than later.

@@Cofcos Yea, plus Xbox has VRR to smooth it out to boot. Both of these features can be patched into PS5, but devs should also be aware of the hardware and displays people are playing on, cause its an easy fix on their end.

This isn't a technical issue with the game because if the PS5 was more powerful it wouldn't any of these issues. If anything, they didn't neuter the game enough to match the PS5's capability. If the PS5 had VRR this wouldn't be an issue as well. This is also a problem with their super picky standards, because if they weren't ultra picky they wouldn't have a job for people to fight and bicker over the smallest details that ultimately don't matter very much.

Playing a game is different from watching a game when it comes to noticing frame drops. I'm sure you've heard it a million times, but it's true.
