Ok. Now the timeline has been changed, what exactly happened to dante at the end of DMC2 before entering DMC4 story again? It is messed up and confusing with this change
Caeeni still though i’d highly recommend playing through as many of the games as possible! i grew up playing them with my brother it was honestly some of the best memories i have with him! just whatever you do stay away from that fucking reboot...
@@Rikkii2 YES! I fuckin hate the reboot, i hate how they changed his look to just a regular looking emo off the street, and i hate how they even mock his white hair from the original main games.
Simple breakdown: Wacky woohoo pizza man kills demons in memory of motivated katana boy brother and mother. Has daddy issues. Dad was badass demon knight jesus. Motivated katana boy has son. Abandons son, raises hell, goes to hell, blows up. Son grows up to have sweet arm. Sweet arm gets ripped off. Gets sweet new arm. V has bird.
Fun fact : Dante's alias Tony Redgrave comes from his original name when the first Devil may cry game was an early prototype of resident evil 4 with a cocky protagonist named Tony.
@@Hypob it's the first prototype that was being headed by hideki kamiya. He was shifted to continue with it as a seperate IP since it was too "action focused" to be a resident evil game. Shinji Mikami took the helm of further development of re4. Two further prototypes were made, one of which was discontinued, and the second of which was shown as a vertical slice in e3 2002 i think, and had fixed cameras like previous re games. It had supernatural elements and was called project 'hook man'. Many elements from it including the design for Leon were carried over to the final build.
@@Inujasa88 Yes and no. After all, they race swapped one of the characters in it, remember? The anime itself isn't canon, but it can be said the events that took place in it are.
Prof. Genki it is canon. It was added into the promotional video which also showcases the chronology change between 2 and 4. The race change is just a minor retcon.
So I'm getting a lot of comments saying that I didn't thinks this was cannon. I already knew this was cannon, I was just surprised that he added it at all. You'd be amazed how many people don't want to recognize the anime's existence.
@@thecartoonfaxuator6878 I knew there was an anime about dmc but I've always heard bad reviews from people about it so never bothered to watch it. If you did watch it then please let me know if the stories are accurate then I'll take a chance otherwise no point in watching
Fun fact: Dan Southworth(Vergil VA) actually spoiled YEARS ago that Nero is Vergil's son when he was doing an interview by saying "Hey, btw this is my son" and then putting his arm aroumd Johnny Young Bosch(Nero VA) and Johnny panicking to shut him up lol.
@@DemonicRemption DMC 5 is my first of the series, I originally thought V is Vergil’s Demon/Devil side and that Nero was his Human side, because I seen the cutscenes with V explaining what he is and seeing Vergil split his human and devil side with Yamato
Thank you so much for the overview. Dmc5 will be my first dmc and I worry a bit abt how much I'm going to miss. At least this fills out some of the blanks.
You need to play the whole series you won't be disappointed with all games except 2. I ignored the reboot for it having nothing to do with the original series everyone loved.
1,2 and 3 are available as HD collection, 4 has two versions, if u just want the story, buy the normal one, not the special edition... we don't talk about DmC.
Having played it, I must say that just looking up the story is not enough, the game is build on the events of 3 and 4, and not experiencing them removes all the weight from what is otherwise an amazing sequel.
m4ti140 can confirm this is false. I didn’t know anything but still played DMC 5 now I’m just a huge fan boy. I didn’t understand it at first but now that I know the full story and lore and god damn this is easily top 3 series of all time for me
can y'all believe that it as 9 months ago when dmc 5 was announced on e3? it was a long wait but finally the time has almost come for the game to be release.
@@Bloodhurl67 yes i know that 10 yrs is a long time but at the time we thought dmc 4 was the final of the trilogy when they announced the reboot back in 2013 so since we didn't even know dmc 5 is gonna happen the wait isn't as hard as when they announced it on e3.
I absolutely love that you used pillow talk in the background from the DMC1 OST. Literally one of the most emotional songs I’ve ever heard but it only has it’s true impact when you finally beat devil may cry 1 on the hardest difficulty. By the way, outstanding video 👍🏻
This was so awesome. Thank you for all you hard work and time to bring this summary to fruition. I mean there is a lot to remember and how it all fits together. Setting it straight in my mind enriches the new game!
You forgot to mention HOW exactly Nero is related to sparda, which is probably gonna be pretty crucial plot point in dmc 5 because of a certain motivated hooded arm snatcher appearing in the game.
I hinted pretty strongly, but didn't come out and say it, since the game didn't. (I know about the comic but that's still a little iffy in terms of canonical integrity) Either way, I think it's pretty obvious
Thanks a lot for the summary. I have been a huge fan of dmc games, but as a child, and even after growing up, i never got the gist of how the plot went. Thanks again, and keep up the good work, you guys deserve it.
you have NO idea how happy I am that DMC5 came out and that more people are talking about it!! its so nostalgic to me because I loved the games and got into the fandom after the popularity died out meaning there weren't any recent videos on it or many people who talked about it thanks so much for making this video!! DMC slaps so hard
I've been a fan since Devil May Cry 1 came out. Played and beat every game except 5 and I thought I was a veteran in knowledge but never saw the anime! So cool to know there's more to the lore.
A huge key part this video is missing is the prelude of info provided in the recently released DMC5 - Before the nightmare- novel. That novel really clears up and sets the stage for events between 4 and 5 along with solidifying the rest of the timeline. It includes even more details that follows up on the aftermath of 2 and actually re-canonizes the first 2 DMC novels (which were originally assumed to no longer be cannon following the release of DMC3. You definitely should make a follow up video talking about the contents of this novel as it acts a true "What you need to know to play DMC5". Numerous accurate English translations are available already if you're unable to understand its current Japanese release.
I had the whole devil may cry series in my other laptop that I have recently bought, and damn the story is fascinating and filled with shits, Gonna play this game later!
Salute for the strategic and accurate linking together of all of the Devil May Cry Timelines from Each version of the game as well as including the anime bits... Good work with this one.
The only thing that was missing was the DMC 2 novel...where he meets a woman named Beryl and dante goes into an alternative timeline where he fights mundus again. its a prequel to DMC 2...but it really isn't important
also the novel where Dante fight Balrog and how it became his devil arm in DMC5, though the important bits is that Lucia has a crush on Dante, sadly no Lucia appearance in DMC5 ;/ I hope they get married in DMC6
Started DMC5 yesterday and I must say, this was a great, condensed way of telling the whole story up until the point where 5 starts! They should use this video instead of the one they have there to recap the series for new fans ahaha Great job with the video!
hiesenberg I already played them all tho. From 1-4, when it’s was first released back then. And yes I also played the reboot. Didn’t like it’s much, I refer the classic Dante and Vergil, personality wise. They where far more better, and had much more character growth, and far more likeable, then the reboot one. I only said it’s as a suggestion to clavin cicilia. The only good thing the reboot didn’t screw up was Vergil’s image/look, but they totally ruin his personality. But I refer the classic Vergil, tho. But they totally ruin Dante image, from looks and personality wise. This reboot Dante remind me of high school bully and punk who know no better than to pick fight, or start a fight, and doesn’t think for themselves. Or think of others. If they wanted to make a new Dante that would make all the DMC fans, new and old one. They should of just make a Dante that everyone can related too, boys and girls, not too over cocky, doesn’t cuss much, and had a moral and space to grow. Or better picked a normal teenager. One that still trying to figure out his own growth and maturity. Say, for like example from the book of Magnus Chase or Percy Jackson. Those character might be cocky but doesn’t go over the top, and doesn’t cuss and they where a bit of a dork and sassy like what the classic Dante where, and yet they where in their teens. Went the same with losing a love one, and yet they didn’t turn out bad like what reboot Dante had. Or like Harry Potter, went to lot of hardship, lose both parents and godparents and yet he didn’t turn out bad like what reboot Dante did. I’m a woman, and I can tell, reboot Dante personality doesn’t appeal me. Either did the reboot Vergil.
I love that DmC is non-canon and classed as separate to the main Devil May Cry series. Its like what Star Trek 09 Kelvin timeline, and Discovery are to REAL "Star Trek".
I heard from my brother who played DMC5, that the game would be harder to beat all the bosses, unlike the previous DMC games. Said it’s topped the reboot DmC one in gameplay and the storyline. And you have to know the original story of all DMC, from 1-4 to understand the story in the game. Because the DMC5, is a sequel to DMC4, and the four was the sequel to DMC3. The 1 and 2 are tie-in story from 3 before going with playing the 4. DmC reboot doesn’t count. Because it’s a reboot and not a sequel to DMC5.
SynthwaveHyena I’m just saying. If you wanted to play DMC5, you have to know the previous story to the game. Which happen to be DMC3 and DMC4. Cause the story in 5 will imply those, strongly. Which might confuse you. As to what happen before DMC5.
I don’t comment on these types of comments often, but honestly it’s the difference between a group of people doing it as a job and one guy doing it because it’s a legitimate passion
You're so consistent and thorough, almost like a pro even if this is scripted you preped and executed this very well! Have a sub my dude I can't wait for dmc 5 next week!
Props to the writing team to make some kind of sense out of the simple idea of a guy just killing a bunch of demon hordes and bosses in the most brutal badass artistic fashion.
my biggest problem with DMC4 (start at 13:23) is that if only Nero didn't bothered Dante into killing the Order everything would have ended there and there. but nope, capcom decided that we needed 20 more missions to finish just to get to the same point.
I honestly think 2 should be between 4 and 5 because of Dante's sword, Rebellion, is transformed more skinnier. Like in the trailers of DMC5, Rebellion looks skinny because of 2. But 2 isn't the best.
@@guysimpai from a character's perspective putting 2 between 1 and 4 actually makes sense. We see in the anime that Dante has a more subdued personality, probably depressed after killing his brother and taking revenge on Mundus. Finding Nero, the closest he has to a next of kin probably reignited his drive.
@@runbaa9285 it does make more sense. It's just the fact that Rebellion in DMC 5 represents so close to DMC 2. And well his motor cycle from hell. But if the creators wanted it this way, that's fine too.
@@guysimpai creators themselves changed their plans , its pretty much better to remove dmc 2 from the story due to number of plot holes it produces but in the end they decided to let it be
Very well done video. I'm a huge DMC fan since game 1 when I was at my grandma's house. I like to think that I know a thing or two about the lore. You're video and what you talk about are pretty spot on. Keep it up
Actually devil may cry 2 is devil may cry 1 prequel, because: - we start with rebellion ( Dante main sword in DMC3, and we start with Sparda sword in DMC1) - no sign of Trish (she is a bonus character, that not figure in the story of DMC2 ) - At the end of DMC2 Lucia heard a motobike noise in the Devil May Cry office.''It could be Lady coming to see Dante, but she saw only Lucia, and Lucia explaned to Lady that Dante was traped in the underworld '' ( my own theory ). That theory could explain the absence of Lady in DMC1. Another of my theory that can somewhat backup my main idea, is that Dante is depressed in DMC2, because he lost his brother(Vergil) in DMC3. So in my opinion the chronology of DMC series shoud be: DMC3 - DMC2 - DMC1 - DMC4 - DMC 5
This was the first summary that I thought I deserved to watch after years of enjoying dmc but only completeing 3, thanks for this, looks like its all the real story :)
Sparda is the most badass character from the entire franchise, his appearance is very cool in demon form he looks like an insect, Unfortunately there's isn't much info on him and maybe one day Capcom will decide to make a Devil May Cry based on Sparda's story, a spin-off perhaps?
I'm kind of lost. Is there just a gap of information here? How does the Order of the Sword have Yamato? The last we see of the sword and of Virgil (as Nelo Angelo) before DMC4 is him being beaten in DMC1.
They elaborate in the novelization of DMC4 (Deadly Fortune), as well as the prequel to DMC5 (Before the Nightmare), but I wouldn't think too hard about it
I really miss the days when gaming was all about the experience and story telling and not about the stupid graphics everyone's crying over but will never even max out. Such a nice video, really took me back to the ps2 era.
I finished all of the games and watched the series, but the series is 18 years old and the games were released out of order, so it's pretty impossible to follow. Thanks for the great breakdown!
