With great respect, the algorithmum just now recommended you to me (me to you?), and I've greatly enjoyed this video. I'm indeed going to look at your new video. Your accuracy thus far has aimed me true.
Boy stop! Vergil ain’t nothing but a modern day Icarus. Accept instead of attempting to ascend to the heavens he descended to the hells. Every Shonen Protagonist loves a challenge to help them grow stronger but willingly entering an environment with nothing but hostile entities to your fathers name and all of his bloodline is downright suicidal! And Vergil discovered just like that good ole white man said, “You’re not that guy.” Thankfully the creators of Devil May Cry franchise didn’t go easy on Vergil. He paid dearly for his arrogance and hubris. He was tormented and enslaved in hell to Mundus for over a decade. Sidelined from truly living for over 20 years. Missing out on a real life in his 20’s and 30’s. Which should’ve been some of the best years of his life. His quest for greater power ruined his life. And there’s nothing cool at all about that or him. Vergil is a loser. And his losses are what’s most notable and memorable about the character. While Dante is a consistent winner and high achiever in life. Dante banished Mundas. Defeated Argosax. Rocked Vergil’s sh!t. Slayed the Savior. While all Vergil has ever really done is “F*ck around and find out that he’s not that guy.”
Other game companies: “oh no how will we properly balance him so he doesn’t break the game!!!” Capcom:”what if we make him the coolest most op character ever?”
The summoned swords acting like completely detached entities from Vergil is definitely one of my favorite aspects about them. Almost every single aspect of his kit looks like he's barely putting in effort to pull off, and the summoned swords not requiring any gesture or even acknowledgement from Vergil really sells that.
Honestly, both Dante and Vergil’s summon swords are one of my favorite parts of their combat. Vergil, like you said, and Dante for the support it gives him. The way his swords aid him is creative. When doing any multi-stab attack, a sword would go in every time he pulls away. When doing a stinger, his swords form a drill around his main sword and form tightly to make a second, final thrust. DMC5 just made me fall in love with summon swords
Vergil's combat is effortless cunning and elegant, dante's combat is messy blunt and very playful honestly the guy has more fun fighting than anything else
Oooooo it’s you! Thanks for posting your amazing combo videos and I hope you don’t mind me using clips as examples. You are much better than I at this game ❤️ also your completely correct Vergil is the most balanced character in smash.
@@Mezzy You using a couple of clips is cool. Though you picked one that I was not particularly proud of😅. Anyway, the video was an entertaining watch, keep it up
I actually think Dante & Vergil still look like twins in DMC5, however I theorize that their difference in appearance can be attributed to their vastly differing lifestyle paths, as well as the the distinct and separate environments in the they inhabit. It's quite common for identical twins to look less and less identical as they age.
Dante & Vergil don’t look alike anymore because Dante is a winner and Vergil is a loser. And Dante can’t have that chump Vergil ever being mistaken for the Greatest Demon Hunter of All-Time that Dante is. In spite of how different their lives turned out. I absolutely love how much Dante still loves his brother Virgil. Even though the differences between them are beyond one being good and the other being evil. Dante’s life is defined by his victories whereas Vergil’s life is defined by his failures. I really do think a great DLC for DMC5 should be made about this incredible juxtaposition between these two brothers. Because I absolutely love how much more humble Vergil is in DM5. He’s been through some sh!t and knows now more than ever that he’s not that guy.
The primary method of filling the concentration gauge isn't combos. The primary method is _walking menacingly around the enemy._ That's right. It charges up when you walk (i.e. partially deflect stick so you don't run) while locked onto an enemy. Any running stops the charge and missed attacks deplete it. It's basically the gauge showing how cool you are.
Nothing has ever made me clench my butt harder than Vergil walking towards you in the final mission in dmc3. Legit one of the most terrifying things in video games, only rivaled by Dante walking towards you in dmc4.
Youre not wrong, on almost any difficulty it was a nightmare. You needed to memorize Virgil's moves, timing, and pray to find victory! @@yaqubebased1961
The fact that he managed to describe the awesomeness that is Vergil without mentioning "Bury the Light" already shows this man's insane levels of Motivation.
@@reggielacey2235 Also in DMC5 He teases Vergil about in the future having grandkids, and He also asks to Vergil If He had fun in that night He had sex with Nero's mother lol
I'd say Vergil being one of, if not, the coolest character in a video game fits because, in Dante's Inferno, Dante (the writer) also treats Vergil (the poet he really likes which he cast as a secondary character because Dante's Inferno is essentially a self-insert fanfic of the bible) as like, the coolest dude ever.
31 minutes just to try to convince me that Vergil is the coolest? ... Dude, I read the title and I was convinced, just watched the video because curiosity got me motivated...
You've forgotten the coolest aspects! You fill the concentration gauge by playing like him: Standing still, walking slowly, and are punished when missing attacks. If you wait long enough for him to sheathe his sword after doing any combo, he gets a segment of devil trigger. The game rewards you so much playing in his iconic style, I love it
Fun fact with Yamato. Nearly every time you allow vergil to sheathe the yamato after a combo, You gain extra devil trigger power as a bonus. Plus a great feeling of badassery
@@hylianro It's true tho, if I remember correctly, you can do the instant judgement cut at two points during the animation. Usually one after the move animation with a white flash, and one when he sheathes his sword. The better one being the first one though
Dante and Vergil still do look almost identical It’s a mix of Dante’s beard, their different facial expressions, their different hair and Dante having actually aged that makes them seemingly look different In Dante’s bloody palace ending he changes his hair to Vergil’s hairstyle and he just looks like a bearded Vergil
I see Dante and Vergil as Dante's the embodiment of the hot temperature and Vergil is the embodiment of cool temperature. Dante's fiery personality, flaming sword, hot appearance (color palette wise with lots of warm colors like red don't get any ideas), and just fiery behavior of always going in guns blazing. Meanwhile Vergil's cold personality, cold katana, cool appearance (lots of cool colors like blue), and cold behavior of having a plan before going in.
My favourite thing about Vergil is how he entertains Dante. Like in DMC3 Dante spouts gibberish about a party, and rather than shutting him down Vergil just yes ands him saying he was too excited to make preparations for the bash.
This is one of the few games that no matter how cheesy the things characters say and do, it's not cringey because the characters have the coolness and badassery to back it up
I think its more to the opposite. Dante have fun switching weapons doing combo rather than using his best options. While Vergil hold back having fun but sometimes it shows that he did have fun.
Fun Fact identical twins do develop slight, but noticeable physical differences as they get older. Anything like early injuries or other environmental experiences can cause differences that become much more apparent as they get older. Since Dante and Vergil are like in their 40s in this game it makes sense that they don't look 100% identical anymore.
Vergil inspired me so much that i became vergil now. My life goal is now motivation and getting more more power and also listening to his beautiful song everyday since i heard it for the first time. But tbh, vergil is really the coolest and best character i know and i love the dmc series so much. I wish they make a dmc 6
Vergil cemented himself in that position all the way back in DMC 3, bear with me. So throughout DMC 3 we (the players) had the same behavior when it came to the weapons. We get a new one, we try it, we meet a challenge we can't overcome with it, we switch back to our familiar load out and throw down for real. In the second Vergil battle, he starts off using Beowulf exclusively until phase 2. And this is where it happens. He switches to Yamato. In that one action he not only mirrored us, but also acknowledged our skill in tandem with Dante's strength. Despite popping DT and blustering that we aren't worthy, he already showed beyond a doubt. Dante, and by extension the player, ARE worthy as his opponent. All conveyed through gameplay.
I mean dmc5 is about Vergil hiring his son and brother to fight Vergil so Vergil can fuse with Vergil and be reborn as Vergil, special edition just lets you also play as Vergil. And I loved it!
The Beowulf special attack is just stupid powerful to where even the bosses go flying up in the air. When I saw that I was convinced Vergil was the coolest video game character
The not-so-identical twins thing actually makes sense. I have two little cousins that are getting more and more easy to identify because of how much they differ from eachother in comparision to when they where younger.
Identical kinds stop being fully identical once development occurs so they have a 5% genetic difference due to mutations. Also, the fetus that develops first will likely absorb more nutrients thus developing healthier and with fewer mutations or defects while the weaker twin gets more deprived as the pregnancy nears its full term. These developmental differences create subtle distinctions between the offspring and add to that lifestyle and yeah one twin can be Vergil and the other Dante. I think people are just made because Vergil is the Chad.
@@bleachedout805 5% genetic differences due to mutation? Were did they develop? Near Chernobyl? That’s 310 million basepairs undergoing a…permanent change in the entire diploid genome by the way you described it. Are you talking about accumulated mutations because otherwise I find that hard to believe. Is that the total occurrences of mutations including DNA repair? Say that we really are going for 5% genetic difference spread over the entire genome, it doesn’t really matter if mutations occur in non coding areas, or areas irrelevant to gene expression or in the long run to transcription to phenotypical effect. Just imagine if one of those mutations is a non-sense mutation. That would do a whole lot more than making vergil and dante look different. No matter how you twist or turn it, capcom made a bad call to have a totally different face model for an identical twin. And vergil is the chad? Lol, he is such a beta. The dude slaughtered millions while dante literally absorbed sparda’s power. Vergil keeps tiffing about having power to protect, so I ask, who did vergil protect? That’s right, himself. Dante is the chad.
I mean let's be honest... Every guy, if they're honest, is not looking at porn on their phone in the toilet. They're doing every single Buzzfeed "which DMC character are you?" quiz, trying to get Vergil on each one.
What else can be said? He's just *THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING* It's just so funny how Capcom was able to create 2 of the greatest and coolest characters of all time in the same game and franchise
As someone who worked with some really talented guys for porting animations of this absolute unit, i can tell you that he is so fast that sometimes we had to slow down the game to as low as 20% to have an idea of what even happened. 40-50 percentage range is when you begin to get into the "reasonable criteria" where the moves are somewhat comprehensible.
Vergil in any other game would be made fun for being too edgy. Especially his song, Bury The Light. Like, that sone has some of the most early 2000's edge I have ever heard. But somehow, it works beautifully. DMC is a series that just says "yeah, we have that dumb teen edge. So fucking what?" And they just RUN with it in the most ridiculous ways to the point where it's truly just awesome.
I think what separates Bury The Light from other "edgy" themes is that there's a very specific purpose to the lyrics and melodies used in the song. It's literally Virgil in song form.
On the different character models thing. Dante’s been eating nothing but pizza for the last 40 years and hasn’t taken a shower since before his one month coma in a ditch at least. Vergil was possessed for a few years then spent the next 20 years in hell with his exploded body before violently ripping himself in two and has just recently put his soul back together. Frankly it’s weird how they don’t look even more different.
they look almost identical, it's only the hair that makes them look different. when you complete bloody palace as dante, he slicks bak his hair like vergil, and then you can see that they truly are identical
0:40 if you complete the palace mode as Dante, he’ll actually mock Vergil by slicking back his hair and looking like him. As you mentioned it may be because their motion capture actors are different. Also I love how Vergil is both one of the greatest badasses yet also a secret dork. He also says Jackpot and his EX Provocation is the best by a mile. It’s perfect
The reason why people like Vergil despite him only showing in one game is because he’s such an honorable badass character. he lives with his own sense of honor til the very end, which is something extremely rare to find in our world. he doesn’t use gun, he never attack you from behind, he want to fight you fair and square. People says it’s hard to relate with Vergil but I disagree. you don’t have to get your mother killed to understand him. just ask yourself “have I ever been in the situation where I really want power to change the circumstance regardless of control factor ?” Let’s take a look at Vergil. he’s a tortured soul who scarred by the past. always blame himself for everything. his mother died and he blamed himself for not powerful enough to save her. these kind of mindset is indeed, extremely toxic to mental health but instead of sulking, he used it as a driven force. hence the famous line “where’s your motivation ?” that’s why he despises Dante (yet still deeply care for him) for his carefree attitude and try to be different from him. what is Dante fighting for ? is he just do it for the sake of doing it ? you can clearly see Dante being childish, joking around in DMC3. he doesn’t give a shit about anything until Lady slap some sense into him by talking about family. to Vergil, Dante doesn’t seem to care about their mother at all. of course, in our view. we might interpret that he left the past behind because no matter what he does, his mother isn’t going to come back or it’s his way of coping by trying to make fun of everything, to forget the pain. If you think about it. Why Sparda left Yamato, his main weapon and the key of everything that happens in DMCverse to Vergil ? I believe Sparda knows that Vergil represents his pride, honor and determination. Oh, one more thing. human like us, are curiosity animal. our brain loves surprise and reward ourself everytime we see unexpected thing. so, when we see Vergil being such a dork, it brings us a smile. I means.. to think that a very serious & levelheaded character like Vergil love dancing to classic music, being a poetry nerd and goes crazy on violin solo. XD I love Vergil because he’s such a Japanese (As a Japanese myself, I would say “too much ancient Japanese”) and a DILF.
i think the reason why i was so mesmerized and pulled into this video commentary was i can relate a lot to the excitement and thrill of playing vergil, just love the character. Its mind boggling how powerful he already is and is like a yin yang persona of Dante and how you can easily see the dynamic the two play like Chaos/Order these two are in constant harmony with each other just two guys who drag everyone into their world because they both are just badass yet the rivalry is ingrained in their blood.
For me, the best thing about Virgil that makes him the best is obviously his theme song.... BORN IN FLAMES, I HAVE BEEN BLESSED, MY FAMILY CREST IS THE DEMON OF DEAAAAAATH!!!!!!!
13:53 "Like pretty much every attack he does is something you would see in a cutscene, but you can just *do it. In a video game. During gameplay."* that's devil may cry 5 in general, lol. ik what you mean though and i agree 100%
You forgot to mention that Vergil’s Sin Devil Trigger form uses elbow blades, which automatically increases his coolness by 9 points. Plus, they’re made of fire, which adds another 2 points.
They also look different because though they are identical twins given Vergil's circumstances he is physically younger than him in body. When he revived, he came back at a peak age for him. Explains why his face is a lot less weathered and clean looking.
I watched this video a bunch of times before getting DMC 5 on Steam during a Sale..... Now... I have finished DMC 5 using Vergil and I'm still watching this video a bunch of times or when YT recommends it to me. This video is TOO COOL!
Vergil and dante are cool in different ways, so it's wrong to compare them. The point of dante's fighting style is to humiliate his enemy as huge as possible, while vergil is never fooling around and obliterates enemies right from the start.
Vergil is one of the very few characters that get much stronger and cooler as a playable character than as an enemy boss it is insane. I recently came back to DMC5 and play as Vergil a lot, practicing and just smacking shit around and the whole time it feels like a final boss fight but it last for the entire game and you are the boss
I'm extremely sad he STILL didn't got his parry from DMC 3 boss fights, would've fit perfectly into his gameplay. Like make it fast startup, slow recovery and little active frames, so it's a very precise move unlike Royal Guard. Still don't get why devs won't add it.
Vergil was is so cool that Capcom always makes him the strongest character whenever hes in any game. Vergil is so cool, when DMC3 came out, every other game in the genre afterwards used Vergil as the standard for making a rival.

Fun fact: using the Yamato and not move canceling and letting him sheath it fully not only gives you a nice sound, it also gives you DT. It literally rewards you for playing calmly, just how Vergil is
In DMC3SE it gives not only DT, but style points as well. For some reason in 4SE it only gives DT but no style. Idk about 5, didn't played as Vergil there.
@@takeserious2641 hey i've finished DMD in 3 and 4 as him, even got all S in 4 :(. I just want to wait until new video card to watch papa Vergil in 5 in full glory (almost 5 years with 750ti ah).
Yeah i mean vergil was built around staying calm and avoiding attacks and stuff, like just look at the concentration gauge, literally punishes you for missing attacks or running around aimlessly. the game literally rewards you for being a badass like vergil
After reading Devil May Cry 5: Visions of V it hits hard some of V’s thoughts about Dante. Especially how he views Dante to be always more superior than him and making him feel like a worthless loser. On a side note, V also encouraged other demonic self to be fuse back into Vergil because Vergil deep down enjoys fighting Dante. He wants to prove his strength to his little brother and “show him no mercy”.
I’ve loved the DMC series since I was a kid, but I haven’t had a system to play DMC 5 on until I recently got a ps5 last week. I remembered this video and immediately bought the special edition just for Vergil.
The only character who has broken the "When the you unlock the boss as a playable character" trope. Meteorologists wet themselves whenever Vergil is here... _...because he is storm that is approaching._
One of my favorite moments with learning this character is when I'm showing him to my friend, who is just now getting it devil May cry and every time he thought I was done explaining what his character could do I would always surprise him with just one more little extra thing that this guy can do. By the time he thought he had figured out everything with the character I showed him the special taunt. I think watching Dante have a dance off with Virgil's doppelganger, was too much for a new fan to take in all at once.
Fun Fact: Two of Vergil's moves with Beowulf are references to Ken from Street Fighter. The Rising Dragon is Ken's standard super since SSF2T, Shouryu Reppa, and the Kick 13 is from the SF3, Shippu Jinraikyaku. As for the Hell on Earth attack, that's actually a reference to Akuma's Kongou Kokuretsuzan from SF3:3rd Strike.
PSN Sale had this game for $10 with Vergil DLC. Downloaded it, instantly played Vergil portion on hard mode and learned how to do the JDC x4 in about four hours or so. Blazed through the game and loved every minute of it.
Man l remember playing dmc 3 for the first time wen l was a kid l thought that dante was the coolest dude for like 20 minutes but then vergil showed up and hes designe alone made me go yep thats the coolest dude in all of midia And then l discovered that he used swords insted of guns and l was like this charecter was made for me.
There is also one more cool thing Vergil has that Dante can't do. He can activate his sin devil trigger for a moment and deactivate it without the loss of bar. Dante does kinda have it but you need SSS rank. Vergil can do this at any point in time
Hell on earth is the best super move. At least to me and that "Shockwave" is actually a Supernova. You know the ones suns make and it's so powerful that it sends bosses flying in the air. With the exceptions of Nidhogg, Gilgamesh, King Cerberus, and Urizen(s).
Hell on earth is a great move! I just thought compared to the other super moves it was visually the least exciting. But from a practical standpoint, it's great!
@@Mezzy hell on earth is my favorite move mostly because of the voiceline. "Now im a little motivated" in SDT voice before just fucking demolishing everything is goddamn nut worthy.
After playing all the games and playing as Vergil for so long I realized that it was pathetic to start slacking off on my exercise, I felt motivated to get back into it, remember to find your motivation and keep working hard to achieve your goals like Virgil would do
A few corrections/details: You can block by just holding lock-on, no need to time it properly. All that matters is how much Concentration you have. Also, that example you showed from Sunhi wasn't a block, it was a parry he did by doing the first attack of Yamato Combo A. You can do up to 4 Judgement Cuts in a row without needing to use teleports. You do a normal one and through it you perform 3 Just Judgement Cuts. Otherwise you can just do 3 Just Judgement Cuts. The point is, you aren't limited to 2. JCE, HoE and Deep Stinger's limitations are that they need LV2 Concentration and a max SDT gauge, regardless if you're in SDT or not. IF you're in SDT while doing them, you only lose 1/4 of your SDT meter, meaning you can stack an ultimate 4 times in a row. If you're in your human form, doing an ultimate will deplete the entire gauge but you'll get some DT in exchange. The new cutscenes are pre-rendered while the normal cutscenes are in-engine, so that's why they look different. No Bury the Light? My motivation decreased by 50%. Excellent video, glad to see the chads who know that Vergil is best boi.
@@Mezzy The new pre-rendered cutscenes are pretty noticeable tbh. For example in the original version of the game if you picked Vergil ex-color costume then his coat in the cutscenes changed to the one you choose, instead of changed it back to the original coat in all the new cutscenes.
Another small one. You can charge literally any Beowulf move that isn't Kick13, Lunar Phase, and Starfall. And even then, Kick13 can go into Rising Star.
@@shinomakichuppy8236 I only use the default costumes either way so that's not something that I come across, but I can see how it'd seem a bit jarring.
10:55 Okay so the reason the Mirage Edge acts so similar to Rebellion is because it's actually just the Force Edge from DMC1 that Vergil got his hands on for a small amount of time in DMC3. Also in Vergil mode in that game you get to use the Force Edge. Now at this point in the story, the Force Edge has become the Devil Sword Sparda which Dante absorbed so that's why it just a glowy version of it. It's like an echo or a "mirage" ;)
Yup. In addition, what most people don’t acknowledge is that Demons or at at least Demons on Dante and Vergil’s level are able to project this Demon-energy which can be seen with Dante’s and Vergil’s various abilities. Most notably Vergil’s summoned swords. I guess if you want an example from Dante is his charged shot skill from his Gunslinger style.
The Mirage edge is the reflection of Vergil's soul....just like Sparda did it with force edge..Tecnically The Devil sword Dante and Mirage edge are on same level...
I played it pirated at first but in that version Vergil wasn't in cuz it was the release version, I thought he was an unlockable character after you beat the story, after I realized that I went straight to buy it, Vergil made me buy the game (which I was thinking to do anyways cuz it's SO AWESOME)
In the side-by-side comparison, Dante's head is pointing more down while Vergils is pointing more up, so of course they won't look similar. If you've seen Dante with his hair up like Vergils with that special taunt he does, he looks a lot more similar than in the comparison.
I love challenges, but DMC 3 and 5 are the only games where its just as fun to just ABUSE enemies. Its like you are in a brutal horror movie without happy ending, just that you are the monster. Its such a weird experience to fight these Demons that look like death or the devil itself, yet you know that if any of them would somehow survive their encounter with you, they would need lifelong therapy
@@artemis1993 best thing is that in both games DMC and Doom, ripping your opponents depends heavily in the difficulty and your skill, which make it more satisfying
Honestly what I really like about Vergil is that someone like me who basically can’t do the more complicated stuff can still use Vergil (less efficient tho) and still look cool
This is like one of those times when a friend just talks so subjectively about something but you really listen because it's so interesting how passionate they are about something they really like.
Vergil's Meter fills just by standing near enemies. It fills faster, the closer you are to enemy. The key here is walking - if you run you lose meter, you need to just walk and teleport! It boosts not only your damage, but also range! The falling swords do not hold enemies in place, they rather slow time to, almost, a stop. Also Void Slash does the same!
