Just recently visited Gettysburg for the first time the end of July, 2020. Day one, the temp was a mild 98 degrees, day two it was a blustering 99 degrees. We did a self tour. I highly recommend doing a guided tour. Next time I will. As a child I had a friend who was a civil war buff. I fought the battle of Gettysburg many a times on those warm summer days in Michigan. I heard names of places in the battle that I thought were so cool, round top, little round top, the wheat field. The coolest name was the Davila’s den. We always ended the day with Pickett’s Charge and a rousing speech from the leader of our little army. As he drew his sword and beckoned us forward. None of us made it to the stone wall, as we died, rose, and died again. A swim in the lake. Better get on home for supper. Wow to have walk in those places of my childhood memories. I was truly on hallowed ground. (John B).

I think it's important to remember that one of the things the South was fighting for was to keep the practice of slavery, seems that fact often gets brushed under the rug a lot. The battlefield tours are great but remember what the fighting was about.

If this place is infested with snakes, imagine being a soldier marching into Devil's Den, dodging bullets, ducking canon fire only to step close to a copper head. Very hard day for all involved. Thank you for these videos. I enjoy this point of view.

Watched all of 157, did not see this live but thank you all for your enthusiasm and preservation efforts. You don't always have to agree with the placing of a monument or remembrance but you have to learn from it.

It's wonderful that Gettysburg has a commitment to keeping the battlefield in a state of preservation, with an eye toward historical accuracy. The site of the most iconic battle in America, it's important to future generations of Americans.

Do a short tour of the Jenny Wade house...the only civilian killed during the battle. Been to her house and you can still see where the bullet went through 2 doors and struck her in the back killing her instantly.

I layed where that soldier layed as well. I also got a photo as well. Was there during the anniversary. Stayed from June 30th to July 4th 2021. Coming back again this year at the same time. Can't wait.
