Thanks for reviewing this one, it definitely doesn't get the attention it deserves. I just beat it for the first time last week and it was awesome! It's really hard to believe it originally came out in 1997, some parts feel a little dated but the game fits the 3DS perfectly.

I used to hate conserving magnetite and worrying about loyalty in order to keep demons happy or fuse them, but the more I play these games the more I feel like they are a genius idea that adds an element of interaction with your party at all times. It makes your relationship with your demons feel alot more personal and that after negotiation and getting them in your party it doesn't just stop there. The Devil summoner games pushyou to treat your demons like family and I love it.

It sure is underrated. I have enjoyed the game a lot. At first I didn't like the fact that my party doesn't level up except for nemesia. I got used to it latervon but then i came to mitama fusions which is a brilliant mechanism to empower your demons and make the battle difficulty fair. The use and consumption of magnetite is another thing that I loathed then came to like. Nemechi and the utilization of the step counter is another brilliant aspect of the game. Thank you for this nice upload. I am totally subscribing to your channel.

I would consider myself new.. Played SMT IV , Appocalypse , Soul Hackers , TMS and the whole Persona franchise only.. I plan on playing all of them tho! I love the Megaten Community and hopefully I can make newcomers discover the franchise 🤟 Thanks for watching!

@@DavidCastJRPGs welcome to the tiny community that, unlike most, doesn't care if you've been playing 30 years or 30 seconds. I'm looking forward to watching you grow in the community. Oh, I don't remember you mentioning, but Soul Hackers uses the alignment system. It depends on the alignment of the demons you use it sways your alignment. You probably already knew that though. And I'm no expert, but if I'm remembering correctly that's right.

oh shit. i only realized after finishing the game that there are side quests. i just kinda played through the main story quest. i never really found the need to grind, even on increased difficulty. i think i tried to grind once, but then realized i didn't need to and i just needed buffs and debuffs. the save-anywhere feature was a godsend. i probably would've lost my mind without it.

The Devil summoner games are the best in the Megaten franchise, I wish Atlus would show love to this series more often. We need Devil Summoner 5 with a new protagonist and timeline with the same love and graphical/gameplay/dungeon design upgrades that Persona 5 received.

I think you can just swap in another SD card, no? They have to be Nintendo compatible I think but they aren't ridiculously expensive though.

Just due to my 1000 game multi console/decade backlogs, its only reason I left off at airport on this game. I picked it back up from few years ago and playing concurrently with its sequel on PS5. Another super solid old school SMT game with nice QOL improvements on it even for a portable game. I'm also liking 2 (love that Nemissa is a DLC demon/skin on 2!)

Two great games! If you can afford it, pick up this one as well, you won't regret it! Plus its worth 200$ physical so, might want to consider the digital version lol

Actually Soul Hackers is just the second entry in the devil summoner series the original one was never released in America and neither was this one until 2013

Soul hackers is not the first Devil Summoner game. It was the second. It came out in 1997 for the Saturn and was ported later to the PS1. The original Devil Summoner came out in 1995 for the saturn (and there's a remaster of it on the PSP that came out mid to late 2000s) that never came out of Japan (they're working on fan translations, one in English and another in Spanish as of right now, so almost no one in the west knows the original Devil Summoner exists) and actually you used the cover of the original Devil Summoner thinking that it was the original Soul Hackers.

A tip to make game easier.Dont use demons while exploring a dungeon.They drain magnetite really fast and you dont really need them except boss fights.

Yes. I agree with you there. Since demons don't exactly level up like your character or nemissa does, It's better to just level them up so they get stronger.

It only makes sense to use them in order to increase their loyalty towards you and that's about it.

Casualmente estoy jugando a este juego y no estoy de acuerdo con lo que dices de que es una de las mejores entradas a la saga para gente nueva. Yo que me he pasado el SMT3, 4, 5 y Strange Jurney Redux, con este juego estoy totalmente perdido. No se como curar a mis personajes, no entiendo que hay que hacer en Paradigm X, y mis demonios no quieren hacer caso a las ordenes que les doy e incluso abandonan mi grupo. Help!!!

@@DavidCastJRPGs soul hackers is an enhanced port of devil summoner 1 (wrong), new graphics (also wrong), the portraits and backgrounds are actually the exact same as the Saturn version just higher resolution, multiple characters from the first devil summoner reappear in soul hackers which while you can play the game without playing DevSum 1 it would enhance the experience to play that first (tho there is no translation patch yet) besides that I generally agree with most points you made (tho shojis involvement in this game was extremely minor)
