Im a structure steel painter and this is my main cup gun. I've used it 2 years on a daily basis. I've probably ran 600 gallons of paint through that gun. I can promise you it's a great gun. We run some rough paints as well and it holds up great. Zink clad 4, temeic typox, zink clad 2, ect

@@limitlessbuilds7181 it really doesn't matter what cup gun you buy. The $100 dollar ones are the same as 400 just different quality components but if you take care of either one it will last a while People can still do a great paint job even with a el cheapo from harbor freight

Gunman, I am from the USA, and watching this helped remind me of how blessed we really are. Even though the gun you gave away isn't the highest quality, you still made someone very happy. I hope blessings return to you 10 fold!!! you've got a good heart and a great attitude and I really enjoy your videos. keep up the great work gunman!

I learn something everyday now and even though I bought one of these guns, I did question the high pressure recommendations from the manufacturer but you confirmed the need for the high pressure due to the poor fan quality. Thanks for that. I am a complete novice but with the help of you and many others, I will learn. Thanks again. (Spokane, Washington, USA)

You're the second painter I've heard say you shouldn't pull the gun apart to clean it. I always take it apart. I work with the painter who doesn't take it apart. We share the shop gun. After getting white chunks in my clear coat job, I started taking the gun apart before I use it to clean his old base coat out of it before I clear raw Carbon fiber parts. To each his own. If your way works for you, great, but I always recommend taking the gun apart. Field stripping so to speak.

I'm a commercial truck painter here in Canada. I have 2x FLG4 and they both seem to hold up to my abuse. I started painting with the starting line. I found they gave me nice lines, but just couldn't handle my abuse. I also use my trifinity on our smaller fleet like suburbans and half tonne pick up trucks. absolutely love it! keep up the good work buddy!

I bought this same set of guns from Amazon as an upgrade to the no name knock off I've been using for the last 15 years, being that I don't paint cars professionally I'm finding them ok for my skill level, I figure as my skill level increases I'll be able to justify higher quality equipment. Thanks for the review, if I had seen it earlier I probably would have bought the finish line set

one of the best primer guns ive used is that 1.8 starterline. love that gun. turned out great d smaller jobs with the base gun 1.4 but that was back when they were much cheaper then they are now. but i use my 1.8 for everything in the shop. cars semis, primer and poly.

Hi bro I'm from South Africa. My name is Christopher and I'm doing my 3rd year in mechanical engineering through a government bursary. I'm really passionate about cars and I've started building my collection slowly but surely. of course you review the gun 2 months after I buy it and spray my first job with it lol. the finish came out pretty good but the spay pattern on mine got messed up just like yours did right in the middle of the job. I ended up drilling a bigger hole in one of the lids and it seem to spray allot better.

so Ive painted a few more panels with the gun and the spray pattern seems to consistently vary while spraying. The FLG-5 just arrived that i ordered and i cant wait to spray with it. the build quality is incredible compared to the startingline gun. everything from the air cap to the trigger pull is better. i can wait to paint some shit

Hi. Jono here from south Africa. Massive fan of yours. Watched loads of your videos. Iv been spraying for 6 years now. Never been able to save up enough for a name brand gun. I use cheap R250 guns and pull off some pretty decent finishes. I see you giving away those guns, i feel if i had the opportunity to get some better quality guns I could charge a bit more and put myself through trade school and support my family better. As i didn't get the chance to finish high school. That didn't stop me from trying, thanx to u iv learnt a lot already. My dream is to open a proper shop. Spraying is my absolute favorite thing. I'd love to send your some pictures of some of my work. I mainly specialize in motorcycles. Thanx for all your videos they help us out here loads, keep up the good work 👌👍

I bought a starting line kit about 3 years ago. It used to come with 3 guns. A 1.8, a 1.4, and the Mini gun, which is 1.0 I believe. The most irritating thing is the chrome coating is pealing off.
@ChristianPixtun
@ChristianPixtun 7 лет назад
Hey Gunman. Liked your review. I use a Binks SV100 (which is almost the same kind of gun, or it's brother the SV50), but not to paint cars. The starting line is more for other coatings, like Polyurethane Enamels, like Sherwin Williams Poland (which I apply, I work in fiberglass planters for exteriors), which is oriented for high performance industrial applications. That kind of paint is so thick, so the DeVilbiss or Binks starting is good choice for first time training and where orange peel is not so important to address. I watch your videos to get inspired everyday on my job. Thank you for everything and keep on paintin' 😎.

Hey guys, just to add my personal findings after using this gun. We ordered it primarily for another high fill gun, not this kit but just the SLG with 1.8 and full plastic pot like the pro-lite- like Gunman advised the gun looks great but the issues we found is, the paint leaks a lot out of the back where the needle goes through the packing nut, so we need to dis-assemble the gun each time because of the high fill build up in and around the back of the needle. Also we found that when spraying the air cap gets a lot of paint build up drying on the air holes, and causes a lot of spray fan issues. Lastly like gunman mentioned - the design of the trigger and air valve is sloppy and it jams at that first 10 or so mm when engaging the trigger. Almost like the valve needed to be angled 5 degree upwards - or the back of the trigger slightly changed on the angle where it engages - maybe a roller bearing for smooth engagement. Whoops dont steal any idea's - imagine gunman with roller bearing action triggers. Anyway - thats my 2c worth. Pro-Lite definitely a winner that one but we use it for base and clear By the way good vids GM - keep it up

For what it's worth, I bought this kit in 2006 when I finished auto body school. It shoots paint and clear ok, not nearly as well as my LS400 and WS400, and I only use this one for sealer but I've been using it pretty much every day since and it's still going strong. :D I have the PPS adapter on mine so I don't have to clean out the cup, but my cup came with an aluminum screw on lid. I also use the mini gun fairly often, again, with the PPS adapter, and 12 years in they're both in fine shape. I hope whoever got the guns is putting them to good use :D

Your fan pattern issue that occurred after you "cleaned" the gun and came back to it was due to the fact that you didn't pull it apart and clean the tip properly. That has nothing to do with build quality

hi gunny! as a "diy guy", i always dismantle all my gun after use, because i don't use all days, and if it's not properly cleaned, it won't properly work the next time too... i hate being annoyed by tools, so i accept spending a long time cleaning my gun another tip, i always put a very light coat of petroleum jelly where the needle goes through the seal, so the trigger is much more smooth (and no weak on it) one day, i hope you could try the airgunsa impact!

I have the Devilbliss “finishingline” gun kit with aluminum caps not cheap plastic. I am a amateur and use it for various projects, motorcycles and occasional cars. I have great results with this finish line gun kit. Zero orange peel and a mirror finish using quality paints achieving professional results. I payed $145 at my local auto paint supply shop. Agreed, if was doing more painting I would spring for a more expensive spray gun to save on materials which is cheaper in the long run anyway. But for now I am very happy with my Devilbliss “finishing line” model.

Top man for giving the gun away. The spray pattern from the gun looks pretty poor. Just means having to work harder to get a good finish. It looked like putting the base coat was tricky, getting it to lay down right (without striping, and with the metal flakes even) with that spray pattern. Great vid, and nice one for giving it away like this.

Guys I just wanted to add that a good painter can get a reasonable finish out of a bad gun so although gunny got a really nice finish he is pushing that gun to the best of its ability (that skill definitely comes with experience) I definitely wouldn't go for one of these as a first gun if you have never painted before you would be better looking round the second hand market for a gti pro or even buying the 1.4 ani new would be cheap too

Keanu Crossland That is so true. When I started painting when I 16 years old I could not afford a spray gun and I had to do with what I could afford. Today I have a GTi Pro lite, SRi mini and a Sata 3000 B for primer work. I get the best results with no rework. To start with cheap gun makes you more aware of controlling the gun.

Thanks for the great review, I was very close to buying this set, but I might look into getting a better gun for my first. I'm looking to re-clear my old Hilux ute before I redo the clear on my Silvia :)

Hey gunny, nice review. I agree with your conclusions. I bought this gun as a diy gun at home for painting my boat. I found it perfect for gun which I wont be using that often and im really happy with the finished results. I think technique and painting conditions are a bigger factor at diy/home level of spray painting. cheers!

Was using this guns for a strait 6 years painting guitars. Absolutely love how they perform. Only thing that was different from reviewed - I had different cups and they were awful. Either way you always can switch to deCups if you want to. I had to sold mine few years aga because I moved to another country and now I have to buy new one here, but I was surprised that this kit now has price of $180-$190... It was almost twice cheaper when I bought it first time. But still - you can not buy 2 more or less quality guns for that price, even used ones... 99% i'll go with this kit again.

Hey Mr.gunman I would greatly appreciate those spray guns. I have been given the opportunity to start learning how to paint at work but problem is I'm short on money due to personal reasons at home/bills and can't afford a decent gun. This would mean so much to me and would change everything. This will open up a new door for my future career and help me out so so much. Thanks for all your very informative videos and keep up the good work in these videos. Thanks bro

I’ve ordered this set, but I will probably paint 4-5 cars in the next decade. I’m am a definite hobbyist and looking at your results, I would be happy with it. I’m spraying primers, sealers, and single stage paints anyway.

Update: it’s worked well for some epoxy primer, urethane sealer, and single stage metallics. Not fantastic, but good enough for most of what I’m doing. I don’t care much for the mini gun, so I ordered one of the ANI R150 mini Guns for tight areas,

I’m on the east coast .(Connecticut area) I’m getting ready to do a full candy color change on my vehicle . Don’t have or currently have or own any spray guns at the moment but hope that will change in the near future. I watch your vids and respect your professional opinion . I’ve been torn on which guns I should use or attempt to get . These look like they would be a great starter set for Me . Taking your advice and trying to stay away from those cheap harbor freight or Eastwood guns . Be well best wishes and thanks for you taking the time to make these videos

Used and abused this gun for primers, oil based, and Mathews sign paint. You have to work much harder to get a good finish but it is possible. The kit is worth the money, but keep in mind you get what you pay for.

Good afternoon gunman, I have been using rattle cans since I was about 13 to paint. I am really interested in furthering my capabilities at painting. I would use this gun to respray my bumper covers and wheels. And will of course make a RU-vid video about it to further that also. I am currently enrolled in college so funds are drier than the desert at the moment

hi, i'm from lithuania. i try to start painting but here in lithuania its pretty hard to get quality tools, many mainstream shops sell really crapy stuff and in specialiside tools are really expensive and i cant afford them. so now im using chinese spray gun which cost less then 10$ and it,s 1,5 tip for paint and clear and for primer/filler 2,2 sized spraygun from ussr which was made back in 1983 and it doesnt even have fan :(

Hi Gunman. I've been wondering which comment section to ask this, and this seems as good as any :) I'm going to be doing a full colour change re spray on a TVR (fibreglass body) soon. Just starting the Upol Fantastic bodyfiller phase. Then will be onto Upol Reface and primer, and the need for a gun. My question is, what gun would you recommend for a first timer? Naturally I want a decent finish, but don't need top of the line as it's a hobby. If you can get round to answering this I'd be so chuffed, but I know you're a busy guy and may not even see this. Great channel. Love the straight talking no BS content and product info.

There are different StartingLine. Here in Europe we call it mostly SLG and they are not HVLP They are also with a Plastic Cup. Type in Devilbiss SLG 620 in Google

Hello Gunman, I see Spraygunsdirect.co.uk now sells a revised improved version with a different air cap and plastic pot now (SLG-620) vs the SLG-610 that came in the kit you reviewed. Be great to see an updated review on the new model, since I'm having a hard time finding the FLG5 (SGD has been sold out, I'm sure thanks to you 😂). Thanks Sir.
