This song always struck me as probably hard to play live, but they pull it off brilliantly. This is probably my 2nd favourite B-Side (first is TurnAround).
I am a fan of Punk. However, most punk music has very little *musical* innovation, other than a certain attitude and unusual lyrical content. DEVO, on the other hand, had the attitude, the lyrical content *and* the musical innovation. Far from being "a joke" or a "novelty act" DEVO's focus was very knowing, very political, very perverted, very dark and very deep. And very innovative. They continue to influence things today, but their influence resides in the subliminal domain. But back then, they had many champions, among whom we may count David Bowie, Brian Eno, John Lydon and even Neil Young. More recently, Kurt Cobain was a huge DEVO fan. I have seen them live 5 times; 1978, 1979, 1981, 2006 and 2007. Incredible. Every time.
I had the pleasure of seeing DEVO live in concert in 2011 and 2012. I used to have the first three albums on 8 Track! And I still have all my vinyl albums and CD'S as well.
I was never really sure if they just had a sequencer playing that repeated F over and over, but I think Bob 2 just mashed those out with alternating hands like it was percussion!
