The names Mersey, Formby and Torquay hark back to England but Devonport in Tasmania is busying cultivating its own distinct history. Situated on the Bass Strait it has long been the gateway to Tasmania and currently the Spirit of Tasmania ferry arrives every morning from its new mainland home of Corio Quay, Geelong.
This film takes you to the Mersey Bluff lighthouse, the Don River Railway, the Maritime Museum, the Art Gallery and the Tasmanian Arboretum. It's a long drive south to Hobart - I'd recommend taking the time to enjoy the pleasures of Devonport.

Thanks. Its a town which doesn't seem to do much to promote itself. I couldn't get anyone from the museum or gallery to talk on camera. Council regulations apparently.

Your voice is so catchy, I almost thought it was the best automated service I had ever heard. This is a great vlog my friend. As anthropologists and Park Rangers, we love the people and channels that share culture, history, and nature. Nice to make your acquaintance and I hope you might like our channel too. Looking forward to more of your stuff. - Turtle

Im watching this from my new home in Queensland and behind the little train at Coles Beach, behind the trees is the last house i owned. Glad you enjoyed the nature reserve and the Don River Railway.

Yes, I was really surprised that there was no passenger service to Launceston and then on to Hobart.

@@TravelObscurer Not enough bums on seats killed the passenger train service decades ago.
