I love John Devore. Very cool, honest, smart guy. I have never seen or heard his speakers in the flesh. The one thing that worries me (I think again, never seen them in the flesh) is their aesthetics. From afar, they look a little like DIY / homemade to me. But it just may be the pics / video’s I see? On the other hand, they look cool to me. Thank you for mentioning their beautiful build quality. I just have to see them in person someday. Like you, the prices are sobering.

The build quality and finishes are top notch. The looks can be a bit polarizing (especially the grills).

Thanks. Would never use the grills. Maybe someday I will see / hear a pair for myself?

Finally! An audio reviewer who understands how to use a camera to make slow pans and zooms and then fades between shots to make a professional looking video. Some of the reviews I have seen from shows jump all over the place and move so quickly you can't really see the equipment. Your narration is also low key and pleasant to listen to. nice job, I'll subscribe. Edit: One other comment, there must be something to that wide baffle shallow depth design. It is used by Audio Note as well.
@SineCraftAudio

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, they look a lot like Audio Note speakers (and a few others). You often see similar proportions with high efficiency speakers.

I have had a pair of O/93s for a while now, paired with a Pass Labs XA25 and a Lampizator Amber 4 with preamp. It is by far the best system I have had in the past 50+ years. I agree with all of your analysis including about the veneer.

Hello. I have a xa25 as well running stand mounts. What are the dimensions of your room? Trying to figure out what would work best. Thank you
@dhmallet
@dhmallet 6 месяцев назад
@@auggysimcity I believe the O/baby’s are slightly less efficient. My room is about 13 x 18 and even being open on 2 sides, the Pass rocks. I believe it puts out as much as 190 wpc in A/B before clipping so it is more versatile than it appears, playing at 85 db with ease.
@auggysimcity
@auggysimcity 6 месяцев назад
@@dhmallet Thanks. Xa25 puts out 80 watts max per channel. I live in an apartment. The listening area is rather small. I think the 093 would not have enough breathing room to really get the scope of the sound. My stand mount speakers at the moment are close to 3 feet away from the wall. Leaving about 6.5 feet from front of speaker to front of listening chair. O baby regardless of price would probably yield better sound quality for the size of the room. I’m currently using a tube line stage that is getting a bit long in the tooth. What line stage are you using?

Do you have the option of auditioning at home? My Lampizator has a simple preamp section, and my only sourcce is my streamer.

Nice review. . . Just beautiful speakers. How would you compare the O series sound signature to other high efficiency options, such as Klipsch Heritage or Zu Omens? Thanks!
@SineCraftAudio
@SineCraftAudio 9 месяцев назад
Over simplification, but to paint in broad strokes I'd describe Klipsch Heritage (at lease the smaller models) and Zu speakers as a bit faster and more immediate/energetic. The O series are more subtle, fuller, and have better timbre to my ear.

Good Review. I have heard the 96's in Australia with Leben gear and I was really impressed. Nice tone to the presenters voice and not some annoying sales pitch that you usually get with audio reviews.

Visually alone, all these Devore speakers are real beauties for me ... but I prefer not to listen to them because I'm afraid I'll end up in debt, which I generally want to avoid.

Thanks for the review! I will be going for a speaker upgrade as soon as I can afford it ... Since I have a solid state amplifier I would prefer DeVore's Gibbon Super Nine which is on top of my shortlist. Have you ever auditioned them? I would really like to see them reviewed.

In the begining of the video you talked about the O/96 making a great impression and really wanting that sound. Does the O/93's give you that sound you wanted that the O/96's produce? Thinking of upgrading and trying to decide if it is worth the $$. Thanks
@SineCraftAudio
@SineCraftAudio 8 месяцев назад
The o/96 (from my memory) are better hands down. Better bass, more energy, more articulate mid range. If you're room and your budget allow for they're pretty special, but, the price delta is huge. If you can find a dealer within a days drive to compare and contrast, probably worth it :) Let us know where you end up.

The o93 is warmer. The o96 are brighter. I can afford both…I chose the o93. It was more balanced and cohesive.

What amp did you settle on to pair with the O/93's?
@SineCraftAudio

So far the best synergies I've heard have been the Manley Mahi and the ModWright KWA 99. I'm sure there are more wining combinations out there depending on what you're looking for :)

Hi thanks for the great review. I have the 93's and have a 2A3 and 300B amp. When you said the 93 needs more power to fully perform, I have the 93 and can produce peaks of 85 with SET amps but not over that. Is that what you were saying? Like the speaker can perform at 8 watts but only at lower volume or did you mean the speaker really changes with more watts at 85 db peaks? JH
@johnhoffman8041
@johnhoffman8041 9 месяцев назад
I didn't ask that clearly. Wondering if the speaker has to have more watts for even low level listening to get the full effect of O/93?. JH
@SineCraftAudio
@SineCraftAudio 9 месяцев назад
That's right, not about total output but output quality. The sound becomes more resolved and fuller with more powerful amps. Naturally you'll trade some sweetness of a the SET amps but I found the tradeoff to be worthwhile as the speakers are inherently pretty sweet in their presentation.

How would you compare the Devores to the Klipsch Heritage speakers..
@SineCraftAudio

Specifically with the 0/93 and the Heresy, I'd say the DeVores are more sophisticated, more nuanced, and the Klipsch are more energetic and present.

Would anyone (with first hand experience) be able to tell me if the O/93’s have that stereotypical high frequency brightness that a lot of American made speakers tend to have?
@SineCraftAudio
@SineCraftAudio 6 месяцев назад
I don't think of the o/93 as bright at all. If anything they can lack a bit of edge compared to other speakers in this pricecsass.
