Dewalt 18v volt Lithium Ion Battery Fault - Possible Fix in Description DC9180 or DC9182

Good day. I made this video to show a guy on eBay who I bought this from, that the battery had a problem. As it turns out, he didn't use if for a couple of YEARS. The problem was that it had drained completely. The fix was to keep installing it into the charger, allow it to start to charge, it would have the fault shown in this video, then try again. After about 15 times of doing this over two days, the battery took a charge and has been working perfectly ever since. I stumbled onto this fix by filming this video. I hope it can help someone.

so when most lithium batteries are completely depleted they won't charge as you figured out. and what you were doing was putting a incremental charge in the battery for that little time, and doing it many times brought the battery pack to a certain voltage that was recognized by the charger thus allowing the charger to eventually charge the battery pack, in other words there's a minimum voltage level threshold that the lithium battery pack must have in order for the charger to charge it. say 9 volts in the pack, and if the pack is under that voltage the charger won't charge the pack. another way to do is use a more robust battery charger ie. a imax b6, and put it on Pb (lead acid) mode, and charge to ~ 8 or 9 volts just to get a minimum viable voltage in the pack and then you can place on the charger. only do that if your li-ion is completely dead as you demonstrated.

Another solution that will always work if the battery is completely dead is to jump start it just like you would your car. Take a good battery & some wire with alligator clips & connect the two for a minute tops. Then immediately plug it into the charger.

What is the model number of these older lithium battery and charger they were perfect size instead of the new ridiculous adaptor they are selling now that make the tool look like the leaning tower of Pisa i will try to get some used one and have them rebuilt ! The flashing light only mean that the cell have charged x-so many times and are at the end of their life cycle ! but they are easy to repack with 5 new good 18650 lithium individual cells !

They do not take five cells they take more than that

Lithium. These 18v lithium batteries really have brought new life to my vintage 18v tools.
