Dark Giraffe, You're the person I'd like to ask about this then, if that's ok? I'm an electrical apprentice. I'm interested in the Dewalt compact recip. Do you think it could be used one handed to cut EMT (and other pipe, etc.) with? Because I'm also considering the Milwaukee M12 Hackzall, and that seems to be an easy one handed use. Thank for any input and experience you can share.

I've done the same. I have two bags of batteries and not one cord. It's so much better without the cord. Dewalt has really stepped it up. Cordless used to be for quick little jobs. Knick make stuff. It was a joke really. Not anymore. I run a whole job without a cord. I love my DeWalt tools. As you know they aren't cheap. Nicely done video. Surprised how well the old brushed one did. Had me convinced for a bit there to go that direction until I watched to the end. I think the weight and getting into tight spaces is a pretty big advantage for the XR compact, plus reciprocating saws really eat batteries.

The smoothest operation of almost any recip saw is the older Ridgid GenX-4. When I demonstrate Milwaukee Fuel VS Ridgid GenX-4 everyone is shocked by how much quieter, smoother and so much less vibration with the Ridgid. Milwaukee fuel by comparison almost vibrates out of your hands and is so noisy you need hearing protection. With tools the excess noise and vibration is wasted energy, sucking the battery down faster.

I have the 20v ‘compact’… it is light enough to prune trees one handed and powers through stud-work timber in seconds with a 5Ahr batt. Let’s be honest the difference in cutting time between these is a shout in the wind. Folk don’t enter timbre cutting races Lol. The compact’s positional blade is a winner if cutting close to a floor, like stud wall anchors and a cammed out screw is easily just chopped off in between the wood parts. These tools do want to jump around a lot though, especially on sheet or unsupported material.

Just picked up the dcs389x2 on account that my craftman 20v brushed motor reciprocating saw literally let the smoke out and just about caught fire after some pretty mild use if you ask me. It was a little over 4 years old but it never saw any real use so i was bummed it gave out on the middle of my demo project tearing down my shed. At first i thought it was a dead battery causing it to fuss so o slapped a fresh one on and it was good for about 5 seconds before it did what it was doing before which was a sort of glitchy thing where ot would cut out and then very slow very weak reciprocations then cut out again. It was around 102 out and it felt warm but nothing crazy. Then it started crackling and popping and shooting sparks out of the vents 😬 it smelled like burning electronics. I knew it was cooked. I'm hoping this new DeWalt lasts me much longer and i actually get my $480 worth out of it because i don't think i got my moneys worth out of that craftsman

I've had the compact version now for two years. Maybe mine is a lemon? I don't know. It drives me crazy. It will only run for a few minutes before it shuts down completely. It's impossible to do any serious demo work with it. Is it overheating? I don't know. It's been a very disapointing tool. I still use my corded MIlwaukee Super Sawzall whenever I need to be serious. I've got a bunch of Dewalt 20v stuff. Been pleased with everything except this tool. I'm on the verge of switching to Milwaukee. Looking to go battery powered with nailguns. I need an 18, 15, and framer and since this is a huge $$$ switching platforms might be a resonable thing to do. Think I might go with the Milwaukee guns. In which case I'll likely start adding their other tools as well. Another note. I used the Makita compact sawzall extensively. My old job we were set up on Makita platform exclusivly. That little Makita saw is a monster. It'll run and run and run. I could use it none stop all day to do anything and long as I had batteries to feed it the thing would never stop. Fantastic tool. No reason Dewalts saw should work like this when I've seen the Makita in action.

I tried to hold the milwaukee cordless fuel recip. today at the store with one hand and it was pretty front heavy, haha. I think you need to remember though, the reason why the 60v chews through batteries, is because when it says 6ah on the battery, that is for when its running in 20v. Once you use it on a 60v tool it basically becomes a 2ah 60v battery.

I wish all batteries were rated in watt hours, would make it a lot simpler to compare capacities. Having a higher voltage does help as you can have the same power and have less current, which can lead to increased efficiency due to less power dissipated as heat. Also less current can enable tools to be smaller as conductors with less current don't have to be as big.

Well that sucks that a flexvolt only has a 2 way blade holder and no adjustable shoe.

Question: Will a DeWalt reciprocating saw also cut through metal pipe? I have an old pipe (approx. 3" in diameter) on our property that is partially buried. I need to cut out the exposed area of pipe to remove a tripping hazard. Will the 20V or 60V with the proper blade do this job? We already have the DeWalt FLEX volt platform with 60V and 20V tools. Thanks for any input from ToolRev or other readers!
@toolrev
@toolrev 2 года назад
Absolutely, I use it to cut pipe and tree roots in the dirt all the time. The 20V will do it no problem. I just got the new DeWalt 20V to review for my man Patrick 10 minutes ago so sub and hit the bell for notification if you want to see that.

@@toolrev Thanks for the info. We purchased the DeWalt 20V compact reciprocating saw and a combo set of blades from Amazon. They had a "limited time deal" with the tool only (since we already have ample batteries and chargers) for $131. Spread the word if anyone would like to do the same. Regular Amazon price is $179, but if anyone misses that deal, Coastal Country also has one on sale (for a few more days) at $159. We're ready to do some cutting in 2022!

Which would you suggest for trimming tree branches?
@toolrev
@toolrev 3 года назад
If you only have a few branches to cut here and there I'd probably go for the compact. Here is the poole saw that I use - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zr6dOoFrbQs.html

How do the 6ah batteries compare to the 9ah power , bulkiness and weight?
@toolrev
@toolrev Год назад
Sorry Tom still working on that vid I promised you but at around 3.4 lbs the 9 amp is about a pound heavier than the 6. The six is more compact but I use the 9 often on the grinder, recip saw, etc, for heavy work. Thing is I don’t carry the 60v recip and grinder too often as DeWalt’s 20v slide switch grinder does most of what I need and I was able to replace the 60v recip saw with Milwaukee’s m18 Fuel multi tool in many cases. Something I couldn’t do with the dewalt multi. Hope this helps and that 6 vs 9 vid is on the way.

other channel uses free weights to pull the saw down, which i think might be a more fair way of comparing between brand. great video though. thanks. :)
@toolrev
@toolrev 3 года назад
I disagree with that method because different saws have their own speed-of-cut sweet spot that you have to feel for. In this video reducing the pressure on the 20V, compared to the Flexvolt, allowed it to cut faster. What's the point of using equal weight on saws that cannot handle pressure equally? Be the saw. Feel its power. You are ready.

I've got the DCS386. When I press too hard while cutting , the blade comes out of the saw. Is this some kind of safety feature if it thinks the blade is jamming, or is it faulty?
@toolrev
@toolrev Год назад
Something’s wrong with it if the blade comes out by itself. Maybe the chuck isn’t fully closing or something. Return it or send it in.
