No dado stack required. Watch as I sandwich two standard blades between a thin kerf blade and cut 7 mm or slightly over 1/4" dados. All you need are 30mm -16mm Blade reducing bushes. Its a game changer . To see this in action in my workshop check out the following videos on my channel.

@@sionhughes5543 Already did mate, subscribed on the spot for content like that! Your cement floor vid is great too. And enjoyed your workshop tour. I have an even smaller space (3/4s of my garage) but have managed to cram in a surprising amount of bigger machines, although not a lot of space for manoeuvring…! @@sionhughes5543 Can’t quite decide whether to spend the money on your dado stack setup or trying to properly sort out a router table setup…! But have a big heavy duty Hitachi router which is a workhorse but no raising/lowering mech, so a pain to use in a homemade table. Router lifts very expensive/Heath Robinson, thinking about selling and getting the Triton with above table raising mech built in.

Well I have a supper flash router table as you saw and I ended up with lots of tear out and the work bit laboured to cut through especially when your cutting 30 cuts to make a box. My dado system cost me a spare DeWALT standard blade of eBay and a thin kerf one from Axminster £15 plus blade reduction washers £5 . I have a video called HOW TO MAKE A FOUR PANEL DOOR. It shows my dado set doing stuff that you couldn’t do on a router table and even if you could it would take you 20 times longer and you would burn your router motor out.

Hi there I liked n subscribed!!! So I have DEWALT 78450 type 4. Yes the male end is a like short n can only go on cutter in between. That works. When I tried a wider stack this issue was more of a plastic piece limiting the width. Across From where the guard tightened is rything blade. I was able to take the case off n all it is is a plastic piece Since DEWALT already says no, I was gonna cut that limiter off. Wish I had a pic to show so you could understand what I’m trying to convey. Yes I understand now the other aspect of diameter of hole issue. Brilliant solution.

Actually not hat long ago I had a problem and couldn’t raise my blade . I did a video on it that you can see on my DeWALT playlists. The point is when I was talking to the chap who repaired my table saw I told him about how I stacks blades .He said the same thing you did but then added that having pulled my machine to pieces that it show now signs on wear as a result of my dado system. I say all of this with the understanding that I am not cutting dados 8 hours a day and that I use this set up only when I need to so its really not harmful to machine .

Why did you sandwich a thinner blade in the middle (2.1mm Kerf), why not the same thickness as the other two (3mm kerf)? Is it purely just to have a little more thread space on the arbor for the nut + washer to hold on to?

There is a safety issue with your table saw. When the saw is started, the inertia in the saw blade causes it to have an anti clockwise force and, thus, creates an undoing force on your locking nut. To overcome this my sheppach saw has a locking washer which counteracts the anti clockwise force - the locking mechanism is a flat spot on the spindle which is mirrored by a flat spot on the washer. The reason I am aware of this is because I bought a dado set many years ago and it would only go on my machine without the locking washer. It was only by fantastic luck that the flying dado did not hit me! Dado set ups are not allowed in the EU for safety reasons and that is why all our table saws have short spindles..
@sionhughes5543
@sionhughes5543 3 года назад
I take on board what you say about safety because I am very very keen on safety myself. However, just two points to make .Dado blades are completely legal in the UK and blades and machines are sold at Axminster. I realise that the DW745 wasn’t sold with a dado kit as standard but it would be if it was in the US . The arbour is shorter and that is the only difference. I have operated the 3 blade system safely for about three years now and have always found it hard to get the arbour nut off . It has never loosened itself. Their is sufficient space for the blade set up that I demonstrated in my video . Finally It’s worth mentioning that dados have been available in the UK for at least two years now .
@HamiltonSurrey
@HamiltonSurrey 3 года назад
@@sionhughes5543 I passed on the information because I wouldn't want anyone to repeat my experience. The short spindle is an EU legal requirement - their attempt to protect people from dado blades (rightly or wrongly - I am not expert enough to say). However, its interesting that you think that dado blades are legal in the UK because you can buy them at Axminster. Presumably you think Brussels has had a change of heart and repealed the legislation? Also, you deduce what I described is not a safety issue because you haven't had an accident yet and that is, of course, your prerogative. In any event good luck in your endeavours.

The downfall with this is your dado is going to have ridges and not be flat. That ATB catbide design prevents it from cutting a flat bottom. The best way to get dadoes on this saw is with a box joint set. But, that can be as pricey as a dado stack. There are also blades with a 6.4mm (¼") kerf... but still pricey. Before i got a ⅜ box joint set, I used a full kerf, FTG (flat top grind) from Freud. Its their heavy duty glue rip blade and its super beefy. Its 3.2mm (⅛") and it also is great at jointing , and rabbets on the table saw.
