Dewalt Atomic Drill/driver and Impact Set, Are they for the PRO: Toolsday

Dewalt sent me out their atomic drill/driver and impact set to take a look at and give them my feedback. Honestly, it's been sitting in my shop for way too long and found todays toolsday a good reason to open them up. I feel like in todays world, there are way too many options for drills and impact sets and for the most part, no matter what you choose, they will do the job, but are they for the PRO? For me, this set sits in the middle with the average tool that will do the tasks at hand for the average person. I wouldn't put them in my trailer for the jobsite, but I don't think that was their purpose.
With that in mind, understand this set, in my opinion, was great until I saw the 1.5 amp batteries. To me they are useless, but for a homeowner or DIY who won't use these on all day demanding applications, it's probably okay. at $179 for the kit, I think its a good deal.

I am a beginner to woodwork, the main test I have with this bundle ru-vid.comUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt is that I think that its hard to settle on a choice of the plan and outline to use as there are a large portion of them there. Nonetheless, I like the simple stride to step directions laid out there.

Upgraded from an older 18v kit. ru-vid.comUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

Good reviews Jarred. I think these ultra compact units are to be used very occasionally and in partnership with your staple drill and drivers, just for tight spaces where the bigger work horses won’t fit. Same reason they come with tiny batteries, gives you options.

I build office furniture for a living and I would contend that we use our drills as much if not more than any other trade out there. The atomic line is something I been awaiting because we cant really use an impact due to working in office environment and they are loud, so the atomic drill is perfect. There is days that we use our drills 7 hours of a day so the lightweight drill is something im considering. Currently have 20 volt dewalt brushless and brushless xr dewalt 20 volt with the 6 amp batterys.

People might get confused by referring to a tool as having “speed” settings. Like a stick shift truck, these are gears. Low gear = higher torque. High gear = lower torque. Low torque for doing moderate tasks quickly, like a bunch of drywall screws. High torque for heavier duty tasks, like putting a huge lag screw into treated 6x6 lumber.

I've been in the dewalt ecosystem for a long time. just recently picked up the 20v (not atomic) set and am a bit bummed. the batteries were both lemons and the build quality feels sub-par compared to older models I have enjoyed so much. time will tell ....after I return the batteries and get them into use again. will love to hear how they stand up to your field use.

Kyle & Jared, Love the Tools day videos. I am part of your subscribers that are not contractors, but a homeowner that loves tools. In your build series, could there be an option where the customer gets to help you with the building? If I lived anywhere near Chicago I would hire you in a minute to build me a shop, but I would love to help. Keep up the videos and quality buildings.

I use the DCF887 and the DCD709 in Vegas as a slot technician and as a part time stagehand and they both have held up well. But if you want to get the most out of these drills I recommend getting the flex batteries. I still keep my 1.5Ahs around as spares.

Hi Kyle got this set with the hammer drill option at a home Depot in canada.it was on a clearance rack missing the charger I paid 144 tax in .worth every penny and more .was just a opportunity I couldn't pass up .I don't notice enough difference to care with all my other 20 v drills and impacts i have .the batteries are not the best but that's how they try to keep the price I guess .hope u had a great Easter with family .

Que buen vídeo, hace poco compré el taladro dewalt DCD777D2 brushless, y este si viene con indicador de carga, pensé que todos los después de ese modelo lo tendrían. A few days ago, I bought the Dewalt DCD777D2 cordless drill with the same bag, 2 batteries (2Ah) and charger, and this one has a battery indicator. Atomic series I thought it was better, more powerfull but no, it's same or "worse". Great video.

Definitely one of my favorite video series' of yours... as for the impacts/drills themself... those seem like a DIY type impact while guys in the trades will use something with more power because we're used to it. Ive also seens Dewalt impacts burn up to the point of smoke coming out of the gun itself... I'll be sticking with Milwaukee myself. great video!

That impact on full speed is the same rpm and impacts per min as the XR on the 2 setting. I can’t say anything about the drill but I have the atomic hammer drill and it surprisingly works just as well as the XR hammer drill. It does get a little bit hotter faster than the XR but it doesn’t stop working. I’m an electrician and I use them all day 5 days a week. Haven’t had them a full week yet but so far I’m impressed. I’m not impressed with the 1.5ah battery though it last 45 min of straight punishment before it dies.

Looks like a decent set for a cabinet crew or where nice petite tools are appreciated. I generally carry a cordless compact drill and a big 1/2" cordless hammer drill with me anyways. No sense in using a big heavy tool for itty bitty holes. I wonder if a better comparison would have been the M12 Fuel drill since I know that M18 drill is a beast.
