I am fully impressed! It’s just a complete ru-vid.comUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 plan with the best resources and step by step instructions . These shed plans are so satisfying as if the sheds build themselves on their own. Worthy work Ryan!

I'm into the DeWalt battery universe. so I love the idea that the tech will be innovating without ditching the tools and connections like they did from 18v to 20v

That's why I like the flexvolt 60v + 20v combo. It covers everything and I can use larger flexvolt batteries on my tools when I need them. The main innovation I want are cheaper batteries.

You should also review the big boy batteries that Dewalt has to offer. Works extremely well with skill saws. As a framer we only go through 2 batteries a day total. 1 for each saw. They're incredible.

I'm sold! After going through so many older Milwaukee batteries and their many generations, I gave Rigid a try, in large part for the lifetime warranty and replacement on the batteries. I've only just discovered that while the tools are fine, the batteries are average. This looks like it's worth trying for my next serious tool purchase, Kyle - thanks!

glad you done this video! I could definitely hear and see the difference when you ripped with the saw! I have to use a 60 volt 9 amp hour battery to get that kind of drive out of my cordless circular saw. I'm also curious about the flex tools! You done a tools day on them some time back, but you haven't shared any more feedback since to say how you like or dislike them! Thanks for the video! I personally have a lot of Dewalt tools, so this was big for me!

I've never had an issue with the regular 20v. My driver / drills last plenty long. They work fast enough to get any job done too. (I'm not in a race and don't try to screw my fingers to my work) However I tried 20v with a circular saw and brought the saw back. Was useless as it's too weak. Although the new one was stronger in the circular saw it still didn't impress me ... I'll stick with my corded Hitachi... it's been a workhorse. Thanks for the video as I've been wondering about the new battery. Now I know! Good information Kyle

What is the price difference between the two you know they are going to charge more for it so would it be worth the difference in price how many lithium batteries could you buy for the price of one of the PowerStack batteries that would be the deciding factors for me
@davidblalock9945
@davidblalock9945 2 года назад
Simple: Power density refers to how much power the battery can discharge at once. Energy density is how much the battery can store. The PowerStack has the ability to discharge more of the its stored power.

Pouch cells are capable of putting out many more amps than the 18650's that are normally used in power tool battery packs. The higher amps being delivered to the motor is why it doesn't stall when you push it through harder.

Only way you're making a tool faster is by increasing the voltage. Its not magic connect some wires between the tool and batt and use a meter to see what V and A each batt is running.

I'd have to say I think on top of a good, durable long lasting battery technology... Should be ever increasingly efficient operating tools.
@matthewwright57
@matthewwright57 2 года назад
The amp hours is a capacity question. Its how much 'power' is in the battery. If the battery is 'more powerful' at the same voltage, then the amperage is higher. If the amperage is higher, then the battery is going to die faster. There is no magic, 2amp-hours is a specific amount of power.
@RRBuildings
@RRBuildings 2 года назад
im no electrical engineer, but there is more to it than just that...I wish I understood more, but the way it talks to the tools, utilizes the power, stays cooler, all equate to better statistics
@timwatterson8060
@timwatterson8060 2 года назад
Pouch cells have less internal resistance aka less voltage sag and will also allow more amps to pass. So when bogged down it will drain faster, but it will run more efficiently overall as well.
@alece9697
@alece9697 2 года назад
@@RRBuildings I think he's right on actually. It really is that simple. The new tech will deliver power faster and more efficiently but for a shorter period. Another channel here on RU-vid actually tested it and showed exactly that a few days ago in a more "by the numbers" test than yours. I don't think anyone is playing down the innovation here (and I'm not trying to play down your impressions of it either.) It'll have some powerful applications where it'll excel and others where it won't. DeWalt has a winner here for a lot of people - just wish it didn't cost twice as much. 😁

Is that the regular 6 1/2 lefty skill saw, I am going to purchase one and I want to justify paying the extra for the xr version with the rafter hook which is a must, might just get a aftermarket rafter hook for the regular saw which is cheaper

As a Mac tech I gotta say that iMac power wire, the way it is routed, makes my eye twitch. Maybe attach a small power strip to the underside of that table and plug the iMac into that and the power strip into the socket. Those iMac glass screens are not easy to replace and not cheap. (Eye twitch, twitch, twitch)

I like tools day. It would be interesting if you could have a DeWalt guru explain (in person or remote) what is going on with the battery and how the new kind of battery will actually affect the tools in the long run.
@madsciencegary3830
@madsciencegary3830 2 года назад
Power is just how fast it provides the energy (watts = VxA). My concern is that they claim less amp-hours of energy and higher power usage, would mean less time to use up the power in the battery pack. If the two packs' specs are true, the old battery will last longer.
@alece9697
@alece9697 2 года назад
You're right about that. Another RU-vid channel did a comparison of the new versus old tech a few days ago. His channel is more of a "by the numbers" type review channel. My takeaway from it was more power but they died faster. In one test, the power delivery of the new battery was similar to a 5ah battery but it died faster than even the standard 2ah. Another thing not touched on here is that it's twice the price. With that said, it'll be better in the right situations (like everything, right?). 😁

@timwatterson8060
@timwatterson8060 2 года назад
To be far the Wh comparison is closer, the standard battery is not 40 Wh it's 36 (3.6 V * 5 * 2 Ah). 20v systems are actually 18v systems (3.6*5=18) there are some 3.7v cells, but nobody uses them and LiFePO4 are 3.2 V but not used in tool batteries AFAIK. Pouch cells have bigger "tabs" giving less resistance, tesla's 4680 cells being the exception for cylindrical cell. The square form factor for pouch over cylindrical cells allow for a denser form factor, think cask wine over bottled wine. The downsides also being the same cylindrical cells are strong pouch cells have a tendency to swell (that causes a lot of problems) and need strong external casing to counter this.

So if this new battery will have twice the life in terms of number of recharges the power stack will take, have they doubled the warranty of this battery? In other words, have they put their money where their mouth is? First question that comes to my mind. God bless and stay well.

I'll be the modern luddite. I'll stick with my DeWalt 5AH cell-based lion batteries. Way cheaper per AH by almost half! (It's really easy to like these new ones when they are given to you.) I can see their value if you are overhead with a driver all day but for line trimmers, blowers, 1/2" heavy impacts, sawzalls, just not worth it. Waiting to see the price of the higher AH versions.
@RRBuildings
@RRBuildings 2 года назад
Larry of course, it’s new tech, can’t stick with old forever or you don’t move forward. These are small packs not designed for long term use on high demand tools. You can, but the real savings is in ergonomics, weight, and longevity. What about if you have to but two 5 amp in the same timeframe because their life is halved compared.

@campbellwatkins2603 2 года назад
Any time I’m using anything where the motor of the tool will be running for a long time and under a heaven work load (circsaw, sawzal, grinder, ect) I’m grabbing a flexvolt. With things like the nailers, impacts, drills, multi tools (smaller stuff) I’m grabbing a 5 ah (and now these new power stacks). I really don’t notice the weight of a flexvolt on a bigger tool, but I will notice the weight of a nine amp hour flex volton a impact or drill
