I only use a chainsaw once a year, and the problems I have had with petrol ones has me looking at alternatives. I agree with some reviews this does look less capable than my old 18 inch petrol saw, BUT, all I do is chop the odd few branches off the trees in my garden, generally nothing more than 6 inch diameter. I think for a DIY owner this will provide a great blend of practicality, reliability, portable use (no cable), and low maintenance. No more crap starting, no more spilling petrol, no more plugs to replace, no more thinking ahead to the next days job wondering if I’ll have to spend 2 hours servicing the dam thing before I can use it….. it’s not always about waving your wang and having the most powerful saw in the world, some of us just want something reliable and easier than a bow saw!
Hi, you are right, it's really only for small jobs, I just wanted to show people what it is capable of, the larger 16" model is better suited for bigger cutting. good luck with it. thanks for watching.
@@1975tbm great thanks,it punches above its weight, the secret is to touch up the chain regularly and it goes well, saves me taking my petrol saws away on trips, no fuel smells, perfect..
Think I will have to get one of those, I already have dewalt batteries and I use the reciprocating saw for cutting most of our trees back and for chopping logs down but they have been pushed to their limits.
Or a Stihl ms 170 which costs roughly the same and is a very versatile tool :) Honestly I think the Dewalt chainsaw seems to really struggle here and takes ages - so if gas powered is an option… 🙋🏻♀️Anna
@@annacraft unfortunately I have a shoulder injury which hampers my efforts of a pull start. I did have a petrol chainsaw a Husqvarna and it was a pig to start. So I went with the dewalt cordless. I only have smaller trees and limbs to cut so it isn’t getting loads of work and I don’t have to worry about 2 stroke mix , just touch the button it works. If I had more to cut then I would have thought about buying another different brand of Petrol chainsaw but the last one was very expensive and a devil to start so took longer to get it running than cutting the wood. And Husqvana are supposed to be a good brand so go figure. Horses for courses and all that.
@@emmarowley1096 glad the tool does what you need it for and right you are: horses for courses 👍I run my chainsaws with premixed fuel (Aspen). Mainly because I do not like the smell of mixing gasoline. But yes, gas powered is not as comfortable to use. Small branches I usually just cut down with a cordless angle grinder and a disc that is actually safe for cutting wood (graf speedcutter), but that is just what works for me. 🙋🏻♀️
@@annacraft we have to use what works best for us. The premixed fuel is exceptionally expensive here and not everywhere stocks it and some couriers won’t deliver it. I didn’t think about using an angle grinder, as I have a cordless one. Not heard of the cutting disc you mention so I’m off to Google it. Have a lovely evening and stay safe out there 😊
thanks for review. Hoping for a follow up now that you have used it for a while. I have a similar sized ryobi battery saw, and whilst I like it, it doesnt have toll-free adjustment and the oiler is crap. Its not a self oiler it requires pumping the cap. also oil leaks out of it in storage. So I really want to know does the oil leak out when stored?
I've had mine a week now and using it to cut down old trees in the garden, I'm no expert, however its much better than the Makita that I had before which was wired. The only thing I've found is that from time to time it stops and will only come on after a few minutes, I think it may be overheating...I would suggest to the manufacturer to add some kind of status indicator....I thought the battery had run out and thats the other thing the battery doesn't last long, max 30 minutes, sometimes less. It doesn't leak oil, but it does go through it, almost a bottle in a day.
yeah, I would agree on the oil, but the cut out I haven't noticed, maybe the battery is getting hot, you can try removing it and putting it back on next time it happens.. you can upgrade to a Flexvolt battery, I've since bought the 12ah one and it's fantastic.. but yes more cost.
Looks like its a 20v XR to me. Iv never seen this style of batteries in a 18v. Check and see if your saw is missing the rubber O ring on the oil cap. Great saw for smaller green wood but it did better than I expected on that dried out hard wood. Great saw for pruning up in the tree..
@@SupremeRuleroftheWorld they sell a awesome adapter that turns the new 20v into the old 18v so you can use in your other older style tools. And it has a USB port for charging your cell phone.. I bought two of them
@@m998hmmwv7 good for you. but the 20V batteries ARE 18V batteries. it depends on the country and its laws on what they are allowed to put on the sticker.

@@m998hmmwv7 20v max and 18v are the same bud... ones talking about the max unloaded voltage the other is under load voltage... same battery... just a different way of measuring the voltage output.
Good video. I have the same saw and it cuts well but have noticed on the cut it splinters the wood and the chain is new from the factory and only done a handful of cuts with it. Is this normal?
@@explorer4x480 Thanks I appreciate it and I was stumped too. Going to try giving the chain a quick touch up sharpen and see what that does. My only thought is that it is because it's a new chain so maybe needs to bed in a bit
Do you know what is the difference between this model and the DCCS620 (american version), except the fact his is 18v and the other ones is 20V? Are they equally capable?
I asked dewalt and they said it’s the same machine. I think the issue might be with maximum voltage vs working voltage. The EU rules might have to do it that and probably it’s just rated 20v in US for marketing purposes.
@@HAlves-ip9cn in the United States the 18v battery will not fit in the 20v tools unless you purchase the adapter. In the United States the 18v and the 20v batteries are completely different configurations. Old style 18v New style 20v I guess it is confusing if you just started using DeWalt tools and do not remember the 18v system
Hello, yes with the smalelr 4ah battery, I got 9 cuts, but I did still have some battery life left, maybe another 3 more cuts.. I was trying to save the chain, so didn't go all the way with it..
With that collection of chainsaws that is of course looking at this struggling 18V chainsaw from a point of pure luxury 😂 But I think you are totally right: this saw appears really weak. The Dewalt 54V seems pretty decent but I would also definitely prefer buying the ms 170 or husky 135 over this 18V. 🙋🏻♀️Anna
hahaha.. I wont be using this saw for that size of wood, I just wanted to show what it was capable of. but I have since bought the 12ah 54v flexvolt battery, that thing is awesome.
