“Hit it like it owes you money.” Thanks for the tip. It gave me the confidence I needed to get the job done. Hitting it still didn’t work. Running out of options, I grabbed a pipe wrench. Worked like magic. Next time I’m going straight to the pipe wrench.

Thanks Robert! After finally getting my chuck off with some percussive encouragement, (the BIG hammer), I remembered to add a little dab of anti seize to the chuck threads, so next time it won't be such a fight.

Thanks for the video! Just had a similar problem with my Dewalt dwd110k corded drill but it was seized in the open chuck position and wouldn't close. I worked dritz sewing machine oil under the plastic chuck cover and eventually got the bearings freed up so now it works again. Good to know I can order replacement part if need be👍

Great educational video. I am glad to see I am not the only person that struggles with repair projects. The video shows it is a real bear to get that chuck part off the main body of the Dewalt drill.

2:20 "go ahead, hit it like it owes you some money" 🤣 I've had the same issue just start to happen about week ago. Thanks for posting this. I will attempt to find a chuck WITH A KEY! I have a 60yr old corded drill that has a chuck/key and it still works just. Sometimes progress is anything but....

Thanks Robert. I learned much. My Dewalt was stuck yet no more difficult than WD40 soak and strong aming it.

That looks like me at the moment trying to break mine loose. I have beat the living hell out of this drill with it clamped down, standing on it, you name it and I still cannot get this thing loose. I'm almost to the point where I'm about to just cut it open

After you tighten it, click the chuck back one audible click. That is the lock.

great video I have had problems with the chuck on several of my cordless drills. I think they are all poorly made. I might try replacing my chuck but I figure that the batteries will go next. Thanks for the tips.

I read somewhere that no matter if it's a cheap drill or the most expensive drill, pretty much all of their chucks (just the chuck) come from the same place(s)

Dewalt DCD710 has an auto-lock chuck with 3/8 inch thread. Part number is N303699. The chuck I see in this video seem to have 1/2 inch thread...

I have a DCD785 that has not held a bit since day 1. Came as part of a kit with an impact, which is flawless, so I didn’t bother returning it. I read somewhere else that replacing it with a different model works. Any chance you have a link to the replacement you used?

I've seen where instead of hitting it, put a large set of vise grips on the allen wrench, hold it firmly in your lap & tap the drill trigger a time or two to break it free.

You missed the most import part... when the retainer Torx screw WILL NOT GIVE REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH LIQUID WRENCH YOU SPRAY INTO IT. You make that part looks so easy. Yes, I know it's a left-hand thread and I am trying to turn clockwise... but no go on two of my DeWalts... ruined 2 torx wrenches... so far.

I had the same issue with my drill. I managed to get the chuck screw out but the chuck itself was impossible to remove! I decided to just buy a new drill but decided to take the Dewalt apart and use the motor for a halloween prop or other weird creative project. ;) I tried banging this thing with hammers and cramming large screwdrivers inside the chuck but she just wasn't into it ;) I guess she just doesn't love me anymore;) Sorry if I offended anyone with this language but it was a bitch of a problem. ;)

Good video! I am trying to get Jacobs steel chuck off my. DeWalt 112 corded drill . It has no set screw inside the chuck . It has a big hex head inside the shaft of the drill . I tried beating the drill with big allen key engaged in end of shaft . I have the drill chuck immersed in oil soaking . If that don't loosen it, all hell gonna break loose.

I had similar problem with my Dewalt corded dwd110k but it was seized in the open position. I put dritz sewing machine oil down in the plastic cover for the chuck and just kept gently wiggling it until the bearings unseized. Works like a charm now. Machine oil might be the way to go👍

Hello. I have a question-problem. The “Forward/Lock/Reverse” button on my Dewalt drill is VERY loose and flimsy, floppy. How can I correct, repair this? Is it easy or difficult? Please respond. Thank you so much. I appreciate it.

If you have a Dewalt or any brand drill and the the bit keeps falling out please watch the video link below. You may NOT need a new chuck. Easy FREE fix. Takes 30 seconds to try. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xIYZIWPRBos.html

Hey bro. So i have an avid power drill just got it a couple months ago. The chuck does not tighten any bits and it is tight when i turn it. Is it supposed to be like that ?
@RobertWadlingtonDIY
@RobertWadlingtonDIY 3 года назад
Unfortunately not familiar with Avid brand. I would suggest calling their customer service and ask if and how their chuck works. If that is not working correctly you can continue the conversation about either getting it fixed or a replacement.

If you buy a replacement drill, will you select dewalt again? I have the same drill and its spitting the bits and now makes a grinding noise when tightening chuck.

B Lindsey B Lindsey, I think all brands have their issues. With that said, I would have no problem buying another DeWalt brand product...!

@RobertWadlingtonDIY

Economic! It came that way and I didn't know if the repair would work; so far it still working. At the time it was just one of other more robust drivers I had and I originally was planning on trashing it. Good comment for other readers to see and consider if they're considering a repair.

Im following you vide and I cant for the life of me get that screw out from the chuck.
@RobertWadlingtonDIY
@RobertWadlingtonDIY 3 года назад
I don’t have my driver handy with me right now, but you need a T20 Torx screwdriver like I said in the video and then used a hex head driver to screw off the chuck. It was difficult to get that chuck screw out and chuck unscrewed. Keep in mine that is not a flat or Phillips head end.
