Free up a DeWalt keyless chuck jammed fix

Here I un-jam the keyless chuck on my brother's DeWalt drill which despite being in warranty (he registered it) DeWalt and the vendor Screwfix wanted to avoid dealing with.
Please note that I am aware that I kept turning it the wrong way between turning it the right way.... However he had plenty of goes at trying to free it himself.

Top man Ben. I tried everyway I could find to remove a drill bit stuck in my Ryobi drill. I was just about to junk it when I found your video and saved myself £100 for a new one. Many thanks.

I, as many others am having the same problem and been searching for a solution, watching many videos and so far yours has been the easiest and quickest. One problem , I have no workshop and no vice. Of to the agents to buy a bigger house with a decent workshop and a vice. Or I will get myself another drill, which ever cheaper!!! Thanks for your video.

That reminds me, I must look at the chuck on one of my drills - it's never been the same since someone borrowed it a few years ago - rule number one, never lend out your tools!!!!! These keyless chucks are brilliant until they go wrong, but in fairness, they don't usually go wrong - I've only had the one partially fail, and that was the one I leant out.
@BensWorkshop
@BensWorkshop 2 года назад
Is one jaw out of line with the others? Apparently that can happen. You can fix it by tapping it down if it is high. You can get replacement chucks. Many thanks for watching.

@@BensWorkshop There's no visible evidence of anything wrong - when they brought it back to me the chuck was all tight - they'd only had it for a couple of hours!!! Now from time to time whatever you're holding in it just falls out - it's not my only drill so I'll probably just carry on using it until it fails completely.

This stupid stuck chuck seems to be a defect on the 99x series. You can easily get it stuck if you accidentally give it a good twist in the direction of opening it further when it's already opened to the max. I thought mine was defective but this happened on the store display models too!

I have a de Walt drill and only that it was gift I'd have to say that the build quality is a wee bit disappointing. I guess they just really don't make 'em like they used to. And as for Screwfix, don't start me. Thanks Ben, that was a nice little shortie. Maybe sometime you could pass on some advice about removing and replacing chucks from drills - I haven't had a lot of luck in that department...
@BensWorkshop
@BensWorkshop 2 года назад
I know how to remove them from things like proper pillar drills already... but will see what I can dig up. On the issue of DeWalt, I suspect that they are just trading on their name. Sad. On ScrewFix, I prefer Toolstation. I will say no more. Many thanks for watching.
