Even if it was a 2ah it would not be wrong... Just a different use case... None the less it would be interesting to see those two with a 9ah (3x 21700 cells in parallel, tons of available amperage for those monsters P.S. the 9ah has cells capable of higher discharge rates than the 12ah.

>:( You’re going to get a properly working dcf899 with a 8ah 21700 battery whether you like it or not. Nah, but have a category called best, best case scenario, where it doesn’t rank into the rankings, where whenever you get that brands top tier battery. You can make a quickie video. You can leave the bbcs torque rating in the chart but it doesn’t factor into the overall score. It’s just bonus info and an easy way to keep content coming. It’s the equivalent of running an air tool with water in the lines.

Great video and this shows what irks me about DeWalt and the games they play between Lowe’s and Home Depot. It only confuses both the average consumer and pros alike, and quite frankly makes it hard to price match (which I’m sure is exactly what these home centers want!). DeWalt need to have one….ONE top level, pro-line of tool and battery, whatever that may be. I get the whole reason for the Flex-volt 20/60 battery so you can power both your drill and miter saw. But give us one hammer drill that will perform at it’s best using either an XR or Flex-volt battery. That way the only choice the consumer has to make will be if they really need to pay extra for that 20/60 combo battery. And bedsides….. is there any other tools other than the hammer drill that are called “Power Detect” and/or “Flexvolt Advantage” ?? No! (The same 887 impact drivers comes with either top-level combo kit). Stop playing games DeWalt! And thank you MC for these videos!

Agreed. I picked the 999 thinking that “power detect” on the 998 was just referencing the variable X AH batts of the 20v line. I had no idea you could use a flex batt on it until I saw this review. And, based on this review, I might be tempted to return the 999 and get the 998. Generally, it seems like the better tool.

This really frustrates me and I’m seriously thinking of dropping Dewalt after using them for all of my power tools for over a decade now. They were already pushing the limit with misleading marketing of their multiple tool kits where they include a bunch of brushed, lower level tools with a single XR tool yet list as an “XR” kit. Thankfully, I never fell victim to that trick and there is at least an element of buyer responsibility on those bit this is just downright dishonest. I needed a new drill after my trusty 790 finally gave up on me after years of an admittedly abusive relationship and I liked the idea of the new combi hammer drills so I figured I’d upgrade to one but quickly became overwhelmed with Dewalts confusing lines of tools that seemingly (actually literally as this video proves) do the same exact thing but have different price tags. This is a straight up lie that Dewalt is feeding us and I just can’t do business with a company that isn’t trustworthy.

Based on all the different videos I have seen about the 998 and the 999 I would surmise that they are both the same tool just a different label. I'd love to see a comparison of the two with a 6ah 21700 battery, a 6ah flexvolt battery and an 8ah 21700 battery used on both and compare the results. I would be curious to see the gauge of the wire between the 21700 and the 18650 battery??? Having more power is fine but just like a highways the more lane you have the more car can pass true 👍 and if the 18650 battery have smaller gauge wire what happens if you solder bigger gauge wire will it make the 18650 perform just as good??

I don't know about the drill, since I only have the 996. But I have flexvolt advantage recip and angle grinder. The flexvolt battery definitely gives a boost in performance. To me it seems like the flex 6 and 9ah batteries are different in the amount of power they give. I've tried the 9ah on DCS575, and it felt significantly more powerful. To me it seems wasteful for Dewalt to run both Flexvolt advantage and power detect. They should stick to just one brand of tools that detect batteries, and maximizes power output. I also don't think it serves their customers.
@AntonioClaudioMichael

I am not sure. we will have to find out. But the point is if you need a specific big battery that is costly to be equal to a tool that doesnt need that big battery defeats of the purpose.

I don’t trust these so the FA did it with an Xr 6 ah but couldn’t with a FA battery 🤔. It does have safety features to stop it from breaking your wrist n all it would take is a tweak to make it jam to get the fail. And if you add to much down force too could make it do it too!

Hi! I would like to ask you a question and I think you are honest to answer it! I live in EU and here there are NO 20V for 996/998/999 Only a 18V version of this! My question is what’s the difference? I ordered a 999 Hammer from Us (20v) can I use with 18V EU of the same battery model ? I ask Dewalt and they said no ! It’s 2 model completly different and no interchangeable Please answer my question Thanks
@ManCaverTools

you should be able to because 18v really is 20v and visa versa. their is copywrite laws here that force Dewalt to say 20v on their tools

one is exclusive to lowes and the other to home depot.
@james8583
@james8583 2 года назад
Its business and stopping competition, some what. Look at the world going torward (or trying real hard) communism If they, let's say, just made the power detect (PD) and sold them, under contract to both lowes and home depot (we are not going to include the smaller stores) then if one sells it for 20 or 30 dollars cheaper the other one has to come up with a better deal (more tools or batteries in a package deal) or beat the price of the other store, plus, the employees at corporate (for the stores) have to work "harder" to get sales done. But, if i am dewalt, that doesn't benefit me. SO, I make 2 different brands under the company name, Dewalt, and negotiate a contract with lows for the PD and negotiate a different contract with home depot for flexvolt (at least for the first few years) and each store can claim that theirs is a better product and more importantly they don't have to compete, much, with their competitor AND they know most of their customers are loyalty customers and will buy the drill at their store without doing much research, especially if they are doing construction (and the like) for a living. That's my take. ASLO, look at the dewalt drills that are "not as powerful" they always have 5 to 50 times has many units sold because the average Joe doesn't care and Dewalt makes way more money off the public at large. Thanks God Bless! P.S. I know it was for certain purposes (the video(s)) but plug in a corded drill and pay $99.00 and get more power. Step up 50 dollars and 9.9 times at of ten just blows away these battery operated drills. MANY by a lower cost cordless hammer drill and a moderately priced corded hammer drill if they are a DIY that is a level below getting paid for the same work. Sorry so much writing!

I did my own testing with my brother-in-laws 996 and 999, if you use the dcb546 9 amp battery instead of the 6 amp then it's real power will be noticed , the end result, I'd say it broke even with my generation 3 Milwaukee if you minus the 250 RPM on the DeWalt, I suspect that the 999 may have a little bit more power so I'm going to get me one 999

@ToolHombre 3 года назад
@@alexe3688 You're trying to compare specs versus stats. Specs don't mean anything unless you pull off a win. That's a stat. A '2500 rpm drill' doesn't necessarily go through wood faster than a '2000 rpm drill' if the Flex overheats, for example. I'm just the 'sports reporter'. I'm reporting on ALL the tests with the Flex Turbo against the 998/999. And in Flex's first month, it won 1, lost 2, and tied 1 in which it overheated. 1W, 1T, 2L. 1 of the losses and 1 of the ties, the DeWalt was in 3rd gear. So DeWalt chewed through wood better than Flex even though 'on paper' the Flex has more rpms. That's just the stats. Cheers.

@@P_steez ManCaver will have to test with the 2 batteries for the sequel. What I can say, is either the 998 or 999 performed better in April than the new Flex Turbo. That's just the stats. Cheers.
