Hey you just solved my problem after a half-hour of messing about! I came right here and boom! - you had me going in less than 5 minutes. Would never have worked that spooling action out for myself! Top marks, THANK YOU
Yours is the only video that worked for me!!! I had the head jammed (didn’t need a new one) & then figured out how to load it. THANK YOU!!! This trimmer has sat in my garage for years… till today. Gotta go work now. God bless
Sparky is very clear and shows the detail. I can now take of and clean my Quickload trimmer head to clean it. This is important and I try to do it monthly based oh what I have been trimming. Use the heaver string. Superior strength and last longer.
Thank you for this video. I didn't read the manual but I did follow the instructions on another youtube video. That video showed taking the head apart and he actually threaded it on backward. (though the comments said to do it the other way) That is how I was doing it until I found this awesome video. It is sooooo much easier than taking the thing apart.
Thanks for this. This was a really easy fix for a really annoying issue. My head would never advance and the cap broke and barely stayed on. I'd have to take the cap off and pull both sides of the string about every 5 mins.
I’m about to string my Dewalt DCST920 20v MAX XR that I bought last year on Amazon and I just noticed it came with the head you installed. I went on Amazon to review my order and the head that was supposed to come with it is the one you originally took off yours. IDK it has worked fine for me for a year, will see how it preforms after I re-string it. 👍🏻👍🏻
I am do the opposite swap. The quick load head isn't well designed. The two clips that secure the top cover to the spool housing break fairly easily. Thanks for the tutorial!
If your line is coiled and won’t feed through completely because of deflection, put a coffee stirrer straw through the head and feed the line through that. Remove the straw once the head is threaded and store it with your supply of string.
Hi. I've bought this dewalt strimmer . Loaded the cutting wire as shown. Like in you video. Got a question.. how do you get additional wire out when it shortens ? Bump the head? Pull it out ? There was no instructions when I bought it to explain . Thanks
Just installed one, one note is that I had to find a screwdriver that was NOT TOO BIG, as you have to get it to fit into the third inner slot that might not allow a large WIDE screwdriver blade head to be accommodated.
Sparky, when you are loading the string I can’t tell which way you are ratcheting it, you do it toooo fast. I can ratchet it either way. Can you tell me if you are winding clockwise or counterclockwise
Thank god for this video.. I broke mine by turning it counter clockwise, which is usually what you do when you want to loosen something up.. So this make no sense to me. Anyways, thank you very much for the video 👌
Dewalt should just have this come on their trimmers. The one it comes with is so annoying. I almost took mine back to the store I was so frustrated lol
Awesome content, I just ordered the flexvolt trimmer(DCST972X1). Having trouble getting the edger and blower attachments though. How do you find the dewalt line? Do you have a preference in brand or style line?
You have to be specific about WHICH Dewalt blower, some are barely adequate, the 60 v I have is great, but you better have a $1000 worth of 60 v batteries if you have a big job as it takes a lot of power.
I have had to replace three head caps because they disintegrate after just a couple of hits on the ground. DeWalt doesn’t sell just the cap I’ve had to purchase the whole assembly which cost $45.00 each time. I only need the cap. Where can I meet just the cap.
Great video, but holy moly that head is pricey $145 on Amazon Canada. This is the only place its available I checked everywhere. Its $27 at Home Depot in US site but they don't ship to Canada
How can I release the string in the weed eater? We own a gas powered one that you slam against the ground to get more line to release. However, with our Dewalt it has alot of line on it but it won't let anymore out.
Does anyone know if DeWalt sells just the cap for this head? I hate to have to keep spending around $30 to replace the whole spool head when all I need is the cap. That's the part that gets beat up.
Hello, I don't like bumping the head to feed the line, it leaves marks on the lawn too so I've found, same as my 128ld Husqvarna, is to squeeze the cap with one or two thumbs and pull the required line through with my folded finger, same other side .Works a treat and dead easy .Good luck Folks 😊
@@558vulcanxh It's called bump feed for a reason. Having to turn it off and flip it around just to squeeze the cap to feed out line wastes too much time. I'll keep bump feeding it, thank you.
I have the 40 V DeWalt trimmer (****940, IIRC) and bought this head without realizing it doesn't list the 940 as one of the ones it can be mounted on. I haven't opened the blister pack yet. Will it fit my 940 trimmer? Anyone?
Absolutely not, that is the combination that does not work! Most 20v tools/devices will work on the 60v batteries except for some exceptions usually due to size constraints. Some newer 20 volt tool might sense if a 60 volt battery is installed and are marketed and sold with a 60 volt battery (sometimes). Just checked and the 20 v battery is not “keyed” to fit into the 60 v trimmer!
Sounds good! Also, check out this video: Are DeWalt Quickload™ and ECHO Speedfeed™ Trimmer Heads Interchangable?: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FdrOVXtF8xY.html
I had the same problem, took me over a year to figure out the the washer that goes over the bolt, last thing before the trimmer head goes on, was upside down. The smooth side should not be visible when you install the washer.
@@ericheffler497 That will happen if you hit something hard like Concrete Block, or a Metal Fence, that cuts thru the like and rips it off inside the holes. Always keep feeding line & don't hit hard things, designed for soft GRASS.

I am, just got the Dewalt trimmer and the string doesn’t come out when bumping it while spinning. When I take the cover off the string is tightened up and not free to let out. Reloaded it and same problem.
when you say "cleaned" did you remove the head or just get what you could see? if you didnt remove the head there can/will be grass all wrapped around the shaft between the head and the "spacer" for lack of a better term. this will prevent the head from depressing. like in his video, you need to put a screw driver in the guards hole and the locking hole on the shaft. then turn the head clockwise. once its off the spacer and head will separate and you can remove the grass. this is the only way to remove the grass. and as far as i know you cant take the head apart like you would a typical weed wacker
