Well this one took me a while but I think it was worth it. A shootout between some of my favorite blended scotches; The Dewars 21 year old Oloroso cask finish, the 27 year old Palo Cortado cask finish and the 32 year old Pedro Ximenez cask finish. I knew these were decent and well reviewed whiskies so I wanted to look at them from a different perspective. Are they good value for what your paying for well aged blended Scotch. These are all at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural color. Unfortunately I was not willing to fork $1800 for the 37 year old Madeira & Oloroso cask finished whisky at 48% ABV. Dewars is killing it with these presentations and I thought it was time to do a shoot out between the first three of the Dewars Double Double series. This is a whole new approach by Dewars and lets not forget Stephanie Macleod our Master Blender and her contribution in leading Dewars in a new direction; as Ralfy would say "An integrity bottling". Bring on the non chill filtering, no added color and the 46% ABV to the blended Scotch market. Now Diageo, what are you going to follow up with to compete in this new market? I hope to see a Johnnie Walker doing an "Integrity Bottling" series soon because I know they could successfully add that to their line of Whiskies and there would be a bunch of us standing in line to purchase a non chill filtered 46% bottling. Maybe I had better slow down here a bit and maybe first just ask for the 46% ABV. Then there is Ballantines and Chivas. And as old Bob Dylan with his 'Heavens Door' whiskey said "The times they are a changing." Well I am biting at the bit to get into the video so here it is. Enjoy.
