For those of you that have seen the previous "Oban Distillery Tour and the 11 Cask Strength" video you will not find any changes in this video other than the back ground music and a few captions added or changed. As I had mentioned the only reason this video was published was that the previous video had COPYRIGHT ISSUES and WAS BLOCKED IN SOME COUNTRIES and REGIONS.
I will remember the trip heading south of The Isle of Skye to Oban through the coastal Highlands as a spectacular scenic drive with twisted narrow highways and contrasting geographics. It wasn't a drive you would wanted to rush but we did have a distillery tour slated in the later afternoon so we had to watch the time. We were driving through Fort William by Ben Nevis distillery and it's a shame we didn't have time to visit as much as we all wanted to.
Oban is one of the classic distilleries that is essential to know if you drink Scotch. Oban is also one of the most visited towns in Scotland even though it is off the beaten path.
My daughter Rachel does a lot of research and she picked Oban as the place she wanted to be on her birthday. I think she got right because it was one of the highlights of our distillery tours and I know she had a good night on the town for her birthday as well. Oban town is also the gateway to the Hebrides with ferry routes to many of the Islands. It is a take off point for many tourists so I thought Rachel did a great job in booking us such a classy place to stay in such a busy little town.
Let's get back to the whisky. This is my first cast strength Oban at 58% ABV, non chill filtered and natural color. It is aged in Bourbon barrels and it is finished in either White or Amber Pot Still Rum Casks. This is a first for the Oban distillery. It's hard to believe that this bottle has been sitting around since I brought it back from my Scottish tour a couple months ago. I've had good luck with Rum finished whiskies in the past so I was pretty excited to get into this one.
Even though I had sent an email before leaving to the UK requesting to have permission to video inside the distillery they would only let me video inside the visitor center and bar. I had to stop my video when we went into the production area because they would only let me take pictures. There is no need to say anymore about the Whisky or Distillery because we have a video to watch.
Take a seat and enjoy the video. Slàinte Mhath
