Deworming your chickens at least once a year is important to keep them happy and healthy. In this video I am using Valbazen brand dewormer.
To clarify dosage:
1/4 cc for bantam size chickens
1/2 cc for regular size chickens
Give each chicken one dose, and then 10 days later give them each a second dose, then you should be good for 6 months to a year.

This is great! I just purchased some and was planning to deworm so this is so helpful. So nice to see how you have such a soft spot for your hens :)

Great topic, great tips. I've got 20 large hens coming, so I'll check to see if they've been done yet.

Thank you for this video! I was a little nervous on what and how much I should give my chickens to deworm them, but after seeing your video I now have more confidence in being able to do this on my own! 😊

I forgot to ask, for bantam chickens, I'm having some sort of intestinal parasite issues, do you think just doing this once will be enough or should I repeat the treatment after a certain amount of time?
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 11 месяцев назад
@@randomcindy I was nervous the first time too, but you'll get the hang of it! I tend to always start out with a little less for each one (for cases where they steal from each other). For the bantams, I would do an initial treatment and see how it goes and then if needed do a 2nd treatment 2 weeks later.

Do they get 2 doses, if so how many days between the first dose and then the second?

Yes two doses. 1 week apart.

Well, I guess I'll try this dewormer because SafeGuard has NOT worked on my chickens. You didn't mention, or maybe I missed it, if there is an egg withdrawl period. Is there, and how long? Thank you.

There isn't a set standard since valbazen isn't made specifically for poultry. However I do 10 to 14 days after last treatment.

Thank you for the sharing this information. If I can feed them Individually, how much would the dosage be?
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld Год назад
Generally its by weight, but as a general rule I give my full sized chickens a 1/2 cc, and the bantams get a 1/4 cc. I use one of those little syringes from the vet with the cc markings on it. Most of the time I just put it on some bread and give a piece to each one. But occasionally, I have to give it to them direct in their beak (like my rooster who always wants to share his food 🙂).

Thank you for this video. I'm getting chickens soon and i need to learn a lot. How many times a year do you give it to them and how many doses? 13:22
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 4 месяца назад
Usually I do once a year, 1 dose. Some recommend every six months and two doses. I don't think a 2nd dose is necessary unless you are dealing with a lot of worm issues. You can also help your chickens by using natural dewormers like pumpkin seeds, hot pepper flakes, etc. The natural ones won't get rid of all types of worms, but can lessen issues and help keep your chickens healthier overall.

Using less than dose, you are making superworms. They will become resistant and stronger.
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld Месяц назад
Thats not the way it works. Additionally, the small difference in dosage only prevents an overdose if they steal and get a double dosage. The amount they are getting is still going to kill off the worms.

Thank you for this video. My girls have recently come down with roundworms. So I have ordered Valbazen. I may have missed it in the video, but how many days apart after the first dose do I give the second one? And also, I have a bantam chicken. Because she is much smaller, should I give her the second dose at an even later time than the other normal sized girls?
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for the questions! 14 days after the first dose is the 2nd dose. Bantams get half the amount for the treatments. As for a 2nd dose for the bantam that is up to you. You can do a 2nd dose if think its necessary. I have 3 bantams myself and I only did the first dose for them because I don't think they had much of anything for worms, so I just gave them the first dose as a preventative.

Just found your video! I doubt I could do the bread balls, I have 4 hens that stay under foot every second I'm in their free run pasture. One Dominique (Toe, yeah...long story) is horrible about stealing from my other girls! Also is this med good for Gape Worms? Cool video, thanks!

@oneseedoneworld 11 месяцев назад
I have issues with stealing too, and sometimes have to separate them first, sneak it to individual birds during free range time or some I just have to syringe feed it to them. And yes! Valbazen treats treats tapeworms, roundworms, capillary worms, cecal worms & gapeworms. Thanks for watching and the question/comment!

@@oneseedoneworld Thanks for taking the time to reply! I have spot treated a few of my girls with Fenbendazole. Which appears to treat the same parasite list, but one is still "coughing" and yawning". It comes in capsule form so I sprinkle it on a spoon full of rice the put her and the plate of rice in the run. Funny to watch the other chickens get upset they can't get to the rice!

Hello if is a silkie would be like 2 ml? I will do it individually, thanks
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld 2 года назад
No 2 ml would be too much for any sized chicken! Regular sized hens would be 0.50 ml and for a bantam sized hen it is 0.25 ml. I haven't had silkies, but I think they normally run smaller, so I would go with the 0.25 ml.

@@sharoncourt75 I use either a 1ml or 3ml syringe that have 0.25 measurements marked on the side, so its not too bad to get the 0.25 or 0.50 measured out.

Have to laugh at foxy brown. This happen when I tried this. Next time I will use a crate. So I put the crate in front of their little door. (The crate has only two sides and a door. Pushed up against the door to go out). Let one hen in and give her a medicated bread ball. Open the outside door and ready for the next hen. I have 24 hens and this is the only way I can get each one dosed.

@oneseedoneworld hey she was in the brink of death. I still really don't know if it was a respiratory illness or gapeworm. I gave her the safeguard. I'm on day 2. She has been sick for a week but looks so good today. I put her on a course of holistic treatments also. Ik I have to repeat the safeguard in ten days after the five days. When it's time to repeat in 10 days am I repeating the five days all over again or giving her just one day dose?
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld Месяц назад
@@thestoryteller71 so in the case I think you are referring to denagard for mycoplasma and respiratory issues. That it is one treatment for 3 to 5 days, done once a month as a preventative. (Also generally as a preventative if you are giving every month, it would just be a half dose. If not given monthly you just do one full dose for the 3 to 5 days when having an issue). If you are referring to Valbazen for worming, that is just a one day treatment and then 10 days later a 2nd treatment can be given if necessary and thats only done twice a year.
@thestoryteller71
@thestoryteller71 Месяц назад
@oneseedoneworld I used safeguard as I thought she may have gapeworms but I was wondering if I would repeat the treatment after five treatments and then after ten fans I do it again.
@oneseedoneworld
@oneseedoneworld Месяц назад
@@thestoryteller71 I don't know as I haven't used safeguard. I have only used Valbazen for worming and it is a one day treatment that can be repeated a second time 10 to 14 days later if there is a major infestation, but normally with mine, I just give the one day treatment twice a year.
