Didn’t have the added bonus of being the first episode of Dexter in 8 years, but still did what it needed to do. The Dexter and Harrison stuff was solid and we got some answers related to Hannah. It doesn’t seem like they’re concealing that Kurt is the one watching the girls so what do you think the twist will be? Did you catch showrunner Clyde Phillips in the picture at 3:27? Let me know what you think of New Blood so far.
I think the twist will be that Harrison is not the real Harrison but a cop or a reporter. Every season of dexter has managed to surprise me but I think I got this one.
He said he wasn't but who knows... I had the idea that, if they were to do more after this season.. A great cliff hanger would be Barista seeing online that Dexter is alive, something how Harrison found out. But then again we don't know how it will end. Maybe he'll come back out of hiding as Dexter. He's technically not wanted or anything..
They've hinted at there being at least one more face from Dexter's past that will appear that they've kept secret. They invited a lot of the original cast to the premiere though, so it might turn out there's more.
I just love this show so much. The small hints that Harrison might have his own dark passenger was amazing. He seems to be hiding something about Hannah
Idk it’s hard to say. Harrison told that girl that he used to do drugs but doesn’t anymore and that’s why he said no when they offered him some. He also told Dexter that he thought the blood and the dead deer was “kinda cool”. But then Dexter acknowledged how good Harrison is with animals and Deb also pointed out that Harrison isn’t awkward and has no problem making friends like Dexter did as a “budding serial killer.” I don’t think he’s hiding anything about Hannah. I think he had a great relationship with her. He told that girl in the woods that Hannah was a lot like her police chief mom. That Hannah was always checking up on him and making sure he was okay. He fondly recalled his memories on the farm with Hannah and their goat - ‘Vincent van goat’. I do think there might be something weird going on with Rita. The kids in the cabin asked Harrison how Rita died and he immediately stopped talking and went to go get wood for the fire. That was odd
@@tatum2739 He surely knew about Dexter and he also said that he had memories of him. The letter just made him think that Dex might actually be alive. Also he might even remember Rita's murder, just like Dexter remember his mother being killed in front of him; maybe that memory is yet to surface up in his brain.
@@milanbarac5832 Yes but didn’t he say he thought Dexter was dead up until he read the letter and found out that Dexter was actually alive but changed his name and faked his death? My point is - I don’t think Hannah gave Harrison any information on how Rita died especially if she didn’t even tell Harrison about dexter
@@tatum2739 I meant he knew that Dexter was his father, Hannah even told him that he was a cop. The letter made him think that he is actually alive. That was my point. She didn't have to tell him how Rita died, he could have just dug up the information by himself. He seems like a smart boy.
I love how there was no narration until he became Dexter again.. Very brilliant... Jim is silent in his head. Dexter's head is noisy. I could easily go for a few seasons of New Blood.... It's definitely just as good as the original. I am kinda bummed about Hanna tho... I was hoping she would show up at some point. Being she would be the center person on all sides and explanations.
I liked your comment until you said Hannah shouldn't be dead. She was the literal worst character. Almost everyone agrees. She had the personality of a dirty dish rag. Her and Dexter's relationship made absolutely no sense and they had no chemistry
@@anamariaapostol Maybe Lumen comes back and kills everyone. She never stopped killing and feels like she needs to kill Dexter to fix the way she is. Wouldn't that be a twist 😄
deb is already stealing the show from beyond the grave... i also love how she mercilessly laughs at dex in the woods. i really hope dex can't just will her away by screaming 'stop' at her tho.
I'm also thinking that the whole animal thing was meant to mean something.... Just one more small detail on how they are the same. I was thinking Harrison has killed in his past (not the one actually taking the girls but where ever he's been) .... But now I'm thinking Harrison just hasn't reached that point yet..... But will This actor is a a good Harrison. That look that there's a lot on his mind.... Which there would be for Harrison.
The way the tone, editing, and characters are done makes me consider this a whole different show than the old one, and I love it. It's tackling issues that weren't seen as relevant 10 years ago, and treating this show more like a horror true crime podcast and less like the police procedural dramedy we saw before.
@@jacksonfitzsimmons4253 the serial killer obviously targets women on highways. While this horrific type of crime is real and has been happening for ages, it's now starting to receive the attention of the general public and the authorities thanks to true crime podcasts. I even heard there's a true crime podcaster coming later this season
I'm really enjoying how much this spin-off/new season is leaning into horror a little bit. I always felt like Dexter was kind of light-hearted and comical for what it was about, so it's nice for the directors to put us in the perspective of the victims and for Dexter to genuinely be haunted by Deb/his psyche. It feels darker, and I think that's a really great direction for them to have gone.
Hey Pete, one thing I think you missed is that I believe the writers are trying to bring awareness to a real-life situation with their story about the missing and murdered indigenous women. This is a real issue that has been going on forever. These women go missing and the police don't care and the storyline is either they deserved it, asked for it, or wanted it. There have been days in Canada dedicated to it and it's called "Red Dress day". This is going to be a storyline within the show so probably be helpful to educate yourself on it for greater detail. I really started to respect Clyde Phillips and whomever else when I started to notice those details being brought up in their story. Its a great way to bring awareness
Yep for sure. This was mentioned several times in the episode. And the indigenous guy who was scolding Dexter's girlfriend was obviously giving her shit about this because she is "one of them" and needs to "pick a side"
For some reason, I believe Harrison has his own dark passenger. He mentioned to dexter how in the letter to have Hannah reach out if Harrison shows any “dark tendencies”. Maybe this is the actual reason why he went looking for him. Also, it seems he gets silent about what happened to his real mom. Just like Dexter, his “dark passenger” was born when he was a kid covered in blood. He remembers. As well refused to participate to take any drugs- most killers know when to avoid this to not be “sloppy” and he gives a sad/innocent story background; just like dexter does when he mentioned he doesn't like blood. Either Hannah actually died from cancer, Harrison killed her, or he found the letter and ran away. But Hannah loved Dexter so much, so I also believe if she was actually diagnose with cancer; she wouldve reached out to dexter. Because she knew dexter wouldn't want him to grow up alone or “messed up”. The drawings might be his own trophy killings. I think the great kill might be dexter killing him since Harrison doesn't have a “code” or teach him to follow his code to become a better killer. Maybe another spin-off? Or Harrison learned from Hannah and kills Dexter by offering him a drink/food. Ending the series and having a new cycle of a serial killer.
Harrison is not really Harrison. I believe he is a new character named 'Randall', same actor. He's probably hunting Dexter Morgan. Best way to get close to him is to assume/pretend he is Harrison. I cannot wait for the next episodes.
The thought that…. he isnt Harrison ….🇨🇦struck me immediately. Why no accent? But if he returned to USA maybe….. i give your idea good support….whatever it is Harrison is a mystery for sure
i like this season a lot! inner critic of a serial killer can be as horrific as deb's showing up in dexter's mind, that's what I'd assume, that's what they're portraying her as... it can't be all flowers and sunshine to be a serial killer in estranged. deb's image in his head represents the 'darkness' in his mind much more realistically than a simple word like 'my dark passenger' so i appreciate the honesty & openness to gruesome details in this new season. even though deb could be 'too much' in acting, it is also the polar opposite of dexter who shows no real emotions. lots and lots of details in just two episodes, looking forward to it more!
This episode had me remembering the feeling of Dexter on the backfoot and having to think fast and react instead of planning from the first few seasons.
I definitely feel like Harrison is already a killer and that his portrait art is his way of taking trophies. I also feel like he may have killed Hannah and knows a lot more about Dexter. The series is also called new blood so maybe his main target is Dexter and Dexter eventually becomes Harrisons dark passenger/consciousness.
Thanks so much Pete -great analysis .I must admit I haven’t seen it yet because I didn’t realize it was an option until just now.I suspect Harrison finds out the truth by accident or Dexter somehow tells him by slipping up. Can’t wait to watch it tonight.
@@PetePeppers1 👍🏻thanks when I started to watch your review, I noticed it was already up in my cable system On Demand . If I find time I’ll watch it this afternoon ☮️😍
I am really suspicious of Harrison. Hannah getting and dying of PC at her age is an extremely unlikely event. If he was sent back to Miami, first off friends of his father and aunt in the police force would have gotten interested in him and Jamie for sure would since she raised him for years. Additionally he actually had living relatives in the area, at minimum in the form of grand parents and half siblings. So unless something happened to all of them, he would not have ended up in a foster home. Heck with 8 years of time his older sister would be 22 and brother would be 20, both old enough to become his legal guardian even if his grand parents couldn't. So unless many more people died than just Hannah, Harrison is straight up lying.
To a point, true. And depending on how it is done, it can be terrible and take away from the episode. Also, if done wrong, it is just people taking a simple TV show way too seriously. It is a fine line.
@@tpl608 If you are not examining art it must not be very thought provoking. Anything can be entertaining, but that does not necessarily equal art. You should really delve into whatever it is you are consuming or why bother entertaining the material at all? Has the story been told before? What are the writers saying? Are elements of propaganda involved? These questions do not take great effort from the viewer to ask and converse with other viewers about. It is not a chore.
@@thegreenhenryshow8809 there is a fine line between fan and fanatic. There is a fine line between good and stupid. Sometimes a show is just a show and fanatics ruin it by endless discussion and speculation
Idk why but I got a weird feeling that Harrison was completely lying about almost everything in episode 2. I got it after Harrison told so many horrible stories about his life. If he's as good at lying as Dexter is then it's possible, even possible Yvonne will show up if he lied about her dying.
Good Vid. I think Harrison's actor is doing a Awesome job. Wish there were going to be more episodes, Harrison would be a cool character to really get to know! Happy Watching!
So good to hear his voice on the TV again. I ain't gonna lie, his voice is one of my inner monologue voices sometimes. Like sometimes I'm walking along and my thoughts are narrorated by morgan freeman then the next day it'll be M.C. Hall lol 😂😂
Loved the episode so much, BUT.... they really need to stick to the original soundtrack by Daniel Licht. They have unlimited access to those gems by the late composer, and they only use blood theme and another on the "Previously on Dexter: New Blood". Please Showtime, we want the old OST. They're the greatest!
Im really getting a sense that something is off with harrison. Hes got alot of secrets. Even the the subtle way he mentions to dexter that the deer dead was "kinda kool" He could have even killed hannah and fled to find dexter cause of his unexplained darkness.
yea, the "harrison killed hannah" theory seems the most probable... i'm also suspicious that he might not even be harrison at all, that he's actually an impostor, perhaps a close friend of harrison from argentina or something.
Would make sense since he couldve manifested those dark tendencies in the same way dexter did when he was a child. Witnessing the death of their mothers, lying in their blood.
@@ShellyBBird yeah the police found his books as well as thr drawings on the wall back in season 1. He had a very penciled out style. Similar to Harrison
Harrison killed Hannah, with his darkness surfacing. Right? Dexter is too late since his son is already messed up. Also, I want to know what happened to Dexter's step children.
@S.L. I’ve been thinking that also. He killed Hannah because she lied to him for so long about his dad actually being alive. His dark passenger joined him then.
Tina the talking tummy is so good I love how they’re giving her a horror movie feel which none of the dexter seasons had. Watching the sneak peak for episode 3 looks like things are going to get very intense. I wish it wasn’t just this limited series though I feel like they could expand on all of these plots over multiple seasons
This is ridiculous if this is a limited series showtime. don't have anything good going on they need this show I'm ready to cancel my cable package this is the only thing that stopped me from canceling. Billions is almost over with.
harrison's a creep. who would stalk their dad and brake into his house instead of just knocking on the door. he's dexter's blind spot. that kid couldve killed hannah himself. he must have seen or known of hannah being a serial killer too. when the kids offered him drugs, he said he used to take them but not anymore as of he had been locked up. he's probably on the run. i feel like it was the kids story arc to end up a killer. theres no proof what the kid is saying is the truth.
...Did you miss the part where Harrison had the letter that Dexter wrote to Hannah when he left? This entire time Harrison believed that Dexter left and faked his own death because of “dark tendencies” that he saw in Harrison. It makes sense that he wouldn’t go knocking on dexters door. He broke in because he was trying to get confirmation that it was actually Dexter
I honestly feel like he found out about Hannah and Dexter being both serial killers, killed Sarah and wants to kill Dexter for abandoning him and getting his mother killed. Who knows what Sarah has told him. He probably has that letter to explain how he knows about him. Idk I’m so invested haha
It's both Kurt Caldwell AND that rich guy who are making the girls disappear. Kurt couldn't be located all those hours he spent watching the girl in the room. And the way the rich guy kept staring at Audrey at the protest; plus, the way he talked to Angela about Audrey. AND the symbolism of Audrey's shirt about MMIW. Both of those guys are in cahoots and making those girls "disappear".
@@usadrones Kurt Caldwell is Matt's dad. That one that showed up last to Dexter's house at the church. I forget the name of the other rich guy; but, he's the one Angela went to ask for help to assist in the search and he offered his helicopter.
The mystery girl was given money by the chief of police and the cop said go to so and so inn down the road they will give you a place to stay. And it seems that place doesnt let you leave!
i thought dexters girlfriend was in bed with those people. he's almost never honest with who he's with, so its fitting he got someone that keeps secrets too. if the town is that corrupt and dex cant sense it? really? he's not firing on all 8 cylinders anymore, he chops wood and has sexy role play with his gf. that doesn't mean he's suddenly stupid. hate that so much relies on dex being dumbed down messy careless. too trusting of his 'son'
The person who is running the shelter is the one who's responsible for the missing girls. I don't recall that they showed that person they only talk about that person.
I think youre missing a lot of the context - dexter left his son because Ritas murderer left him in a puddle of her blood - on purpose to create another dexter (dexters biggest fear is himself and now his hope to have a normal son has been taken away from him) the exact origin of Dexters adoption. And he did not admit that to Harrison, he lied.
From our perspective as the audience, were forced to side with Dexter. We’ve naturally spent the most time with him and being metaphorically in his head, so lying to Harrison really is Dexter’s only option right now. Harrison seems to be really smart at keeping his goals and intentions under the rug just like his Dad, and im feeling like Harrison’s own goals are to understand Dexter’s absence; both in the past, and in the current cold present.
Which kinda begs my own personal question, does Harrison have an internal monologue, a Dark Passenger similar to Dexter’s? Does he see a manifestation of someone from his past, like Dexter with Harry or Deb? Did Hannah really die from pancreatic cancer?
I have figured out two possible variations for the ending. I’m pretty sure it will end something like that. Just ask if you would like to hear my endings or share yours……..
Mr Caldwell’s obviously the dude capturing the missing girls. I’m wondering how the police knew Matt was missing or who reported him because he’s not with anyone serious and his dad didn’t even know til right before the search was ending. I hope Dexter kills more than one (two if he kills Caldwell) this season. We got kills sometimes every episode, or every few episodes before. I hope they’re not looking for Matt for too long, ya know? I know Dexter is trying to be good now but it’s Dexter!!
@@dariadoo1 I was wondering about that also. But usually people around that age of a single man don’t report people missing that quickly - especially a player like Matt seemed in that episode. ?? Idk. Probably will remain a mystery.
I love your Analysis of the way this series is heading. The one thing I disagree with is, you stating that it can't be a relative. My analysis is that Harrison could be the trinity killer's son. He has the same mo' and uses the same blade. I feel he killed Hannah and Harrison and got the letter Dexter wrote for him. And is seeking an explanation and revenge, of course. Keep up the great!
Okay... Can we address "The Bullet" that Deb is carrying around as a reminder of yes she got shot? That isn't a bullet that she is carrying but a 9MM round. A "bullet" is simply the projectile portion of a round, but a round would include the shell casing and powder as well. It bothered me in the first episode when she pulled not a bullet that had been fired (which would be separated from the casing) but an entire round with casing still intact from her abdomen. I thought at first it was a mistake or oversight because someone forgot that shell casings are not part of the bullet. However in the second episode, they clearly show that they know what the difference is when they pull the "Remington Hollow Point 7MM" from the albino buck. Is there a reason behind having Deb walk around holding an unexpended round as opposed to just the bullet or portion that would have entered her? Final nitpick but there would be an ATF Form 4473 that Matt would have had to fill out in the process of doing the background check that they completely skipped over in episode one. The FFL cannot simply input your information and initiate the background check.
I thought the same thing! I said it’s funny how he used to go for blondes a lot and now he’s with someone with brown hair and looks like Deb. Plus the fact that she’s a cop too!
@@AdrianaSanchez-yy5rz There's got to be something to this. It's too obvious. Actually, I forgot about his prior girlfriends being blond. Makes it even more striking. Deb seems to take great pleasure in mocking Dexter for all of his decisions. Let's see if she calls him out on this. Could this be some kind of a Tony Montana psycho-sexual brother-sister redeux thing?
Did I miss it or were there No police dogs out there? Woulda found that body or found a hint of it pretty quick…i have a feeling dexter is going to wind up finding a way to help Angela find these missing girls while making himself look like a hero all at the same time giving into his dark passenger. Just my prediction! As always, great review Pete
did u observed that dexter when he is covering up the blood trails in the cabin when he wakes up he missed one and the camera shows it clearcly when the police arrives? What happened there ?? i think that small detail was a big minus of the show.
As of writing this I've only seen the first two episodes but (and I'm probably wrong) but my theory is that Harrison ends up having a Dark Passenger, killed what's her name that was raising him, and ends up being extremely twisted and his actual whole plan was to learn about Dexter and kill Dexter, which he does at the very end.
I think Harrison knows, he just wants dexter to tell him, he remembers "daddy's box" from previous seasons, the was something he never forgot. He remember seeing his blood slides
I really like Jack Alcott as Harrison. My theory is that Hannah didn't die of cancer but of something else and this is a lie. Because maybe he found out about the letter and about Dexter being alive. Maybe he even knows he's a serial killer but he didn't say anything. And maybe because he was angry he did something to her and because of that he runs away to find his dad. Jack said in an interview Harrison has his demons but we'll see if they are same demons as his father. Jack is an amazing actor so far. I love him. Hope to see more of him in episode 3. We know Harrison likes to draw...but what are the drawings representing?🤔
It sounds kind of boring but I think his demons are related to addiction. Clyde Phillips said they touched on the opioid crisis. I think they will find some common ground there, but they're will probably be misunderstanding as well.
My theory is Audrey is Hannah's child. Considering Angela said she did not want to look for a mother who abandoned her child. Hannah was pregnant with child who was supposed to be a girl. She said to Dexter it was a miscarriage, but who knows if she had lied about that part. She also suspiciously stopped talking to her former in-laws.
Now that the original show runner is back I think this will be a great season. I hope it does well enough and gains enough support to have them make another season. I know they keep saying this is a limited series, but as long as dexter is alive at the end, I don't see any reason why we can't have more. I love the new look of the show set against a snowy woodsy small town. It's got a more tense feeling, as opposed to the bright vibrant colors of Miami in the original series. I think everyone has really upped thier game to bring this show back to life
The one thing that confused me was what Dexter did w Matt’s body. In ep 1, After saying what am I going to do w u, he looks at the ice fishing poster & says not exactly Miami bay, but it does have a hole in it, hinting he puts him in the hole. Then in episode 2 the camera pans below the fire pit & there’s the bag’s w Matt in them & his gun. Just a little confused w that misdirection. What am I missing?
@@eddscall dropping everything down the hole seems quicker than digging up and rebuilding a fire pit unless that ice fishing spot is further out than it seemed. Anyways I’m looking too deep in something pretty meaningless. Just really didn’t understand why they needed this misdirection. Maybe we’ll get a further explanation what happened during that time
@Melissa Faye yeah I didn’t really understand that either, at first. I mean if he wanted a better look why use the gun? Binoculars wuddah been fine. Is he testing himself w the gun? What Dexter is doing is holding back his urge to kill. The ritual of tracking the deer & not killing it is therapeutic. Shows how Dexter has changed. A lot of symbolism w the white deer. It’s known to evade capture, similar to Dexter, it’s also associated with purity, innocence, and is known as a taboo creature to hunt. Matt killing the deer removed Dexters resistance to kill along w it.
@@thewhitepanda10 I think he was going to put Matt down the fishing hole but then when Dexter approached the hole - a dead Debra came out of it but was dragged back down by something. Maybe that made him change his mind
anyone else clock on the "I'm not Iris" the kid said to her cop foster mother? It reminded me of what Trinity's son said to him regarding his daughter. Nicknaming her after his dead sister.
Iris is the missing girl who likely turned up dead that the native American guy was referring to at the beginning of the episode. They were crowding around the deer and he was mad that they even wanted to look for Matt because he's a jerk. And he said 'when one of our own goes missing you say that its just a teenage runaway and they'll come back". I assume that was some kind of mistake the lady cop made earlier in her career and the girl turned up dead and she regrets not taking it more seriously
I'm buying into the the theory that Harrison is working with the police undercover, he seems to be trying to get Dex to make some sort of confession or admission of guilt, Hanna probably isn't even really dead either.
The only way that would make sense is if Hannah spilled the beans. She didn't before when she was faced with life in prison, so I don't think it's that. The cops didn't know he was a serial killer, and weren't looking for him.
That was actually very sad Harrison thought it was his fault Dexter left. It’s so crazy to think about how normal of a life Dexter was creating for him when he was young too. He has already messed the kid up, just not enough to be what he is.
If Dexter stuck to the code and killed Trinity right away, Dexter would be with Rita, Harrison and kids today enjoying life. Or he could've eventually got cought.
I watched the complete series twice. Watching the first episode of the new series I thought it could never be as good as the past. I’ve seen every episode and it hasn’t lost a beat, maybe better.
I just want some trinity even if it's a 30 second cameo. Harrison went from blonde to burnette.....I think he's dyed it because he's on the run after he killed Hannah
can someone explain the security camera image of angela pulling up to olsen's place? isnt that the same security monitor watching the captive runaway girl? i immediately thought that olsen was the kidnapper. maybe not the killer but ...
"Ya got big." "Happens." I feel, again, for the characters - this is to the great credit of the writer(s), show-runner and all the actors and crew. That's what made "Dexter" a great show, that you felt for the characters notwithstanding their sometimes (often!) terrible flaws. I am quite certain the writers will capitalize on this. Beware and prepare for gut-wrenching narrative and events!
Thought it was slow,, but necessary for all the characters. And we need to see Dexter struggling to "find" himself. I was spoiled by watching all the original series on DVD and the streaming (able to binge all of it) and not the original showtime weekly release pacing
I love the new show. I really do. I see a lot of Dexter in Harrison. He has an innate sense of justice and seems like a complex person. I was incredibly disappointed in how the original series ended, so I am happy that the story is being continued.
Harrison is beyond broken. His anger, and resentment is boiling over and will be Dexters undoing. Dex will attempt to save his son,but his son didn't want saving. He came for revenge and saves Kurt by mortality wounding dex.
Pete! Is this a one time only season? Rumour was that it would be a final season 9… but now that the title is different does this mean copious amount of seasons ?
I really didn't feel it this week. It's not like it's a bad episode. All the elements were there. Even Hannah was mentioned. My guess is that this was just the classical transition episode to set up something great. Hopefully. But there was hardly any tension. Curious as to what they'll bring next week. Which reminds me: FOUNDATION SEASON FINALE! :)
Harrison should not been allowed to stay and should have been on that bus. He is an unstable rebellious teenager who has been on his own for 10+ years and will destroy everything Dexter has done. Dexter did this to himself.
So far, it doesnt seem to have evolved all too much other then on the technical end. It looks fantastic! Unfortunately I think the harrsion storyline is a bit rushed already, nothing feels earned. Although I really liked the concept of the white elk, that was really good storytelling.
This episode was a high 8! Really good. It covered alot. too much to type: We covered the trail, the blood, he planted a direction of the crime: who and why. That girl in the room is a goner. See what happens to teenage female runaways or drifters? I wouldn't doubt that the guy behind the camera in the room is Matt's dad... After all...I'd would be great to have father and son killed, lol. I'm quite sure Angela's daughter will be a goner before this season ends. She's annoyingly rebellious, thinking she knows it all. and as for Harrison, he looks like his dad, hair and all. I'm positive that Harrison knows his dad is keeping alot of stuff from him. Anyways... No teens killed, no other deaths, so I give this episode a high 8+!!!!😉
